Hi, thanks for your detailed video and moreover to the good heart of replying.....I have couple of questions.. I found that microcrystalline wax has different grades.. laminating, coating and hardening...which one is best for carving? How do u mix the pigment to wax....is it direct or mixed with oil? Thanking you in advance and eagerly awaiting for your reply!!!!!
The microcrystalline that we use is one designed to make the carving paraffin less brittle and more flexible. I'm not sure what other industries this microcrystalline is used in - we love it for carving! Just mix the pigment directly with the wax and it will blend nicely.
Hi Alla! Stearic acid hardens a wax and micro wax actually helps make the wax more pliable so they do different jobs. No need to add stearic to carving wax. You don't want the carving wax too hard otherwise it won't carve well. The micro adds some stretch so to speak into the wax so can carve and maneuver it.

Hi, I think this looks very interesting and am looking into classes to take near me. I keep wondering, why is paraffin wax used for this style of candle/carving? Is it possible to do it with other types of wax? I'm simply extremely curious, and can't find the answer on Google 😅
Paraffin is flexible so it carves easily. Beeswax can also be used for carving but it is much more expensive. Soy and Palm waxes are very brittle and just break apart when carved so they do not work well.
