@donalderickson-si8ww I’m starting to believe you’re a whole life revolves around handheld radios or are you just like a Google bot? Both videos I have on radios your commenting constantly correcting and telling everybody what they’re doing wrong, don’t get me wrong. I love to learn new things, but we all these are on the lower end of radios more so for novice users. I’m just curious to why you’re so committed to these comments sections. Of course I bought them to get some use out of, but I didn’t buy these >$100 radios , With the intent of setting out repeaters and connecting to some 150 foot tower with “permission” I appreciate your knowledge though and you probably know more about walkie-talkies than anybody else I’ve ever met and that is impressive, seriously.
Hi. With these same Motorola radios I could reach much further than the 0.5mile you cover there. I normally go for a dog walk around 4 miles away from home, within the city I live in the UK, with trees in the walking area. Depending on where you are, static noise can be picked up when sitting close of interferers, like lights, data boxes. But if you move away from there you could communicate up to 4miles, ish :)
Thats more of what I was expecting and hoping to get as well ,I’ve tried in different type of areas as well. That’s impressive ,wonder what makes the difference.
in the country you will get 2 miles and maybe a little more in the city you will get less than two miles that is what my radios go and I have f r s and G M R S which have and hold a license I know what my radios do and don't do I work in a museum and my use of family service is a remote speaker that works fine.
that is wrong that radio work's at 5 watts on g m r s channels then you will average 20 miles off one repeater alone I do 6 cover three county's and yes I have a license to do it
Very True. He had the walkie out the window and kinda had his head out somewhat, but still a lot of electronics to interfere with it. Also he went down a nice size hill also. Pretty satisfied with them overall, and thanks man !
Part 2 is coming because ,I agree with you and Ricky ,we going off grid (somewhat) and get some good data ,,I've done one in town with some cobras nut was in a vehicle with power lines and all interfering ,I'll get part 2 done within a week or two
Kansas is NOT flat. I have no idea why that is rumored to be. Flat is Florida or New Orleans or something like that. Kansas is very much NOT flat. Towards Colorado, the hills become more subtle, but no where near flat. Being from Kansas, It feels VERY strange when I am in an area that is all flat. Like being in Arkansas where they grow rice or anywhere near the gulf cost. I can't speak to SW Kansas, though. I'm never in that corner of the state.
My apologies, the parts I’ve been to were extremely flat and wide open with fifty cows trying to get under one tree for shade,it was in the southwest of Kansas and Northwest part of Oklahoma. I like that part of the country though, best sunrises I have ever seen, beautiful.
i got a pair of these so i could leave them in the trunk in case of emergency. quite honestly i'm not sure i bought the right thing. i don't need all these fancy menu options, just push to talk with long range. any users here have a suggestion for me to replace these with?
They are pretty simple and hold a decent charge when they are off. Motorola and cobra both offer those of course you’re gonna get what you pay for so always have to keep that in mind.
TALK to my friends at RUGGED RADIO thay sell every attachment you would need in store and thay build them and know them inside and out thay set me up with four base at 45 watts tuned and out the door with three hand held's set me back $ 700.00 just three hand held's with NO security codes thay work grate
G M R S is YES kiddy band family service is NO licensee needed 1 mile G M R S you are doing 20 miles so your licensee is the phone number for you radio cant call you if I don't know the number right
Longer antenna longer range.. With this coil antennas you cannot reach long distances. Why pmr radio producers dont put 16 cm whip antennas instead of short gummy antennas.?
I f you want find a radio operater to help you put in a pl tone in your radio the call THE call the F C C and get a license as I did and talk over three neighboring countyes as I do
if that radio has G M R S in it you put in a code from the tower and your talking 20 I do that and talk to the east coast twice a month on a tower link up
Wasn’t great. Some of the commenters know a lot more than I do about them. I believe you’re going to get what you pay for. They have worked for what I use them for. I was hoping for more distance though.
@@akafletcherforever these radios are built under strict rules from the F C C as to watts on out put want distance get your F C C license for $ 35.00 dollars and go 20 miles I do that everyday.

Yeah, I used to set up repeaters when I was seismic surveying out west with GPS and if you set the on the right mountains or hills you can really maximize your distance
Thank you. Not many reviewers actually testing the distance and thats why im here.

Part 2 is coming soon, without anything to interfere and get the data and compare
in the U S A family service is rated at 2 watts and two miles under are F C C rules so that is how there built here state side

all F R S AND G M R S radio operate the same f r s is 2 miles line of site
G M R S 5 watts out put on ht's and 20 miles or more with a repeter
If you do it on an frs channel it transmits at .5 watts. If you redo the test on a gmrs channel it will transmit at 2 watts.

Thanks!
I have a set. The batteries don't last more than a few years and replacements are difficult to find. The ones on amazon suck.
you need to buy rechargeable batterys at the store I have battery packs
and I have three back up's for when I am on a all day event back up.
If he stepped outside the metal car his distance would have been a little better.
that is very true the car block's signel along with block walls
you cant talk out of a tin can
It sounds better if you put your hand on the antenna 😉
👍🏻
lol
then you get r f burns we don't do that in are world of radio
@@donalderickson-si8ww what?
put your hand on the antenna it hearts R F burn
rated at a mile on a half of a watt transmitter will make it to the mail box for shure
Being inside the car may be the cause of interference that far away.
Good video buddy

i was just going to suggest that. A car is the worst for handheld devices. Too much reflection.

this radio has a HALF A WATT TRANSMITTER you may get a mile or on till
your radio transmitter hit's a block wall then your out of range.

I’m in Kansas and there are a lot of trees
Let me rephrase that ,the parts I spent time in they wasn’t that many and was very wide open. There would be 30 cows all trying to get under one tree.
it s not the trees IT IS buildings between radios radio waves bounce off building's
Trees won’t affect it all that much , I was referring to mountains and valleys and stuff because they will affect radio.
Thank You!
Yes sir
Can this radio listen to FM radio for music?
no you want listen to that BUY a FM radio these are transmitter's
@ or I can use any one of a dozen different models and brands of HT’s that I own that all have FM radio.
Do you need a license to use this walkie talkie?
No you do not ,as far as I know anyway

for you radio cant call you if I don't know the number right

Makes perfect sense ,I’ve gotten a lot of different reasons on why they don’t have a further reach.
the answer is the F C C said what these guy's candy build and what thay can not DO
I f you want find a radio operater to help you put in a pl tone in your radio the call THE
call the F C C and get a license as I did and talk over three neighboring countyes
as I do
thay under rules by the F C C rules you have a short range radio with a range of 2 miles ore line of site that antenna is tuned to the borde
if that radio has G M R S in it you put in a code from the tower and your talking 20
I do that and talk to the east coast twice a month on a tower link up
And conclusion was 0.4 miles when it's rated 3 miles?
