Lol tell them to aim their lights downward. Halogens, HID or LED regardless of the fact, people dont align their headlights correctly anymore nor bother making sure their aim right. I do love when people raise their trucks without proper aiming headlights downwards or when people purposely aim 1 of the beams upwards so they can see better while blinding others. JK aside, its about proper aiming beams, not the light itself.

I run 50w 6500K XBs and I love em, oh and to me their not blue but their on the purple hue with white or "diamond white" and by running a 50w it runs a little on the yellow/white output with a violet hue.

I found this video VERY useful. As i'm in the process of updating my current OEM bulbs in my 2015 Lincoln MKC. I believe the stock OEM bulbs are Osram Xenarc 66340HBI D3S 4650K HID. And considering my vehicle only has 29k miles on it. It's hard for me too understand how faded these OEM bulbs have become. My high beams look like my low beams it's pretty ridiculous folks...!!! I'm not sure if 5yrs from 2015-2019 is the "average lifespan" of an HID bulb or not...? But their getting replaced with Dama Kanji Ultimate Vision Gen 2 5000K HID bulbs. Initially i was going too replace them with Philips new 4800K Gen 2 bulbs or the Osram Nightbreakers but those two bulbs are just WAY out of my budget. And i saw comparison test between the Dama's i'm considering and the Philips 4800K Gen 2 and they were VERY similar. Except for the Dama's cheaper cost. I can get a pair of these Dama's over at hidconcept.com for a little over $100 bucks with free shipping that's a steal too me...!!! And hopefully they'll last and be A LOT brighter when i'm driving at night. Because i prefer a nice bright white light then something that is "bluish" in color. Just seeing those bulbs as i'm driving past them look awful too me. And of course as this video explained the higher Kelvin rating you go the more "bluish to even purple" the light becomes. And then your sacrificing lumens and i can't imagine anyone wanting too do that especially driving at night and needing all the light you can get. Plus, those "bluish" hues are HORRIBLE in inclement weather especially rain and wet roads. Trust me folks i've done my research.
I don’t know what Morimoto put in those 5500k’s but none of the other options even come close, to the 5500k’s intensity.... My next setup is gonna be xb5500k’s on a Hylux 45
I am returning this cheap kensun kit. After several days of driving, the flickering/pulsing doesn't stop so I just placed an order with you guys at TRS. Thanks for the informative videos! Will post back when I get them and install em.
4500 looks to be the OEM color for newer cars. I know the Ram and grand Cherokee lights have a slight purple tint to them which matches the 4500’s perfect. I’m Looking for the OEM style and not the ghetto ricer look. Great video 💪🏻
just bought some h11b morimotos (5500k 35w) for my new white civic ex sedan and after reading these comments, i'm confident i made the right choice! excited to upgrade my crappy factory halogens... really a bummer driving with these!
Hey CW, I have the same size bulbs in my car how do you like your new ones are there nice and bright white?... I'm looking to upgrade from halogen to the HIDs,but I'm looking for a bright white light that's going to really light up the road. Would you recommend these?
Hey! Yes these have been amazing so far.. I adjusted them down about 5cm because they put out so much light. My car itself looks much more premium and I can see so much better at night, especially in the rain..
Would be helpful to show one of the CIE diagrams to describe the differences. Stick to using lumens (or total luminous flux) instead of luminosity, I've only seen that used in astronomy. Also, luminous flux accounts for the eyes sensitivity, so 3000 lumens is the same perceived light regardless of color temp.
Something’s wrong with your setup. I’ve got CBB as well and they’re very very white with a hint on the blue side. Or your projectors mirrors are burned or you run 35w bulbs on 55w ballasts, so the Kelvin rating drop to, say, 5500K or maybe 4500K.
We would recommend warmer colors for fog and rain, that would be somewhere in that 3000K-5000K range! Let us know if you have any other questions, have a good one!
This information is very helpful. I was wondering what OEM ran. I would also like to see a light throw competition video. IIHS has a 250ft lighting requirement to get the new top safety rating. Is there any data on how kelvin rating effects your vision over long periods? I do remember reading somewhere that warmer light (like a 4500k) is easier on the human eye when driving long hours at night, where whiter light (6500k) can strain the eye and can make it hard to focus during extended night driving.
Generally, we would agree with you that the warmer kelvin ratings are easier on the eyes. for pure visibility, we recommend 4500K or 5500K, whereas 6500K will sacrifice a little performance/practicality for aesthetic (if thats your thing)

I would recommend going with the 5500K bulbs, but you could also go lower and that would work perfect for your fog lights as the lower Kelvin bulbs but through the fog and weather better. I would recommend going with a 35W ballast, as the 50W might be too hot in that small fog light housing. Im looking to put some hid's in my 2018 chevy malibu lt. It has oem projectors what would I need to do to install the 6500k bulbs in my car. And is 6500k by morimoto noticing blue but not too much? What kelvin do the current model GMC Sierras HD have? I have a 2018 Silverado HD and would love to match the oem look of the sierras. Also what’s the closest kelvin to match the morimoto xb fog lights?
So I have a 14 f150 with the oem HID’S, looking to upgrade and I bought the 5500k bulbs. Will these take time to warm up or is it like the stock ones were it’s no time to warm up and the output of light is instant?
I have an 08 Acura TL and am looking to replace my OEM 4300k HIDs, looking at yuur descriptive video I want a color code somewhere between 5000k-6500k what brands and or available options do yuu guys have to help me make a decision. Kas ESO ended up coping a pair of osram mega white 6500k on a 35w ballast for my car, there very nice on initial start up but go super white when warmed up. Look nice just not the exact colour I wanted but I nw knw they’ll become bluer w age
I have a (2015 audi Q5) with HID bi xenon headlights, I believe they are 35W. I've been advised against buying 55W bulbs because they will burn the plastic housing. I've been advised to get Kensun 55W HID Headlight Xenon Conversion Kit 55 Watt 6000 Bright White to install them as fog lights. What do you recommend and what do you carry in stock ???
55W HID's can produce quite a bit of heat and aren't always the best option for a fog light. I'd personally recommend running a good LED bulb like the Morimoto 2Stroke in those foglights instead. They'll be brigher than your factory lights and won't run the risk of melting.
If you use a 55 watt ballast will this cause the bulb to burn out more quickly, also is there any negative impact to the battery or alternator in converting to hid's in a OEM halogen headlight vehicle? My owner's manual says not to modify the headlights, no further explanation given on the matter though
Your battery and alternator won’t notice any difference with HID. 55w will technically reduce the life of your components but it’s very minor. I like the extra brightness personally!
Is there a video showing the output difference between the 35w and 55w 5500k Morimoto HIDs? I have a 2015 Scion tC and I recently put in a set of LED bulbs. My halogens are brighter than the LEDs! They’re mainly just blue and the cut off line is skewed. I’m returning them and ordering Morimoto but I’m on the fence about going 35w 4500k or 55w 5500k. I want a bright light since my projectors serve both low and high beams, but I don’t really want any blue in the light source since they’re in projectors. Hopefully that all made some type of sense.
Hello, I have a question, I have a beetle with bi xenon with awful yellow color, I want to upgrade it, but it uses d8s bulbs, and no one produces them, with different specifications, only the osram original parts. You have any product availiable whiter for my car? Andanother question, if my ballast is 25 watts, can i use a 35 watt bulb?? Or something will get damaged?
Please! the insulator tube of the xenon bulb h7 is meant to be facing down in the projector? The bulb in the projector is hold by a clip so it can be moved and positioned in several ways.
Yes, insulator tube should face the bottom of the projector once installed. If yours faces the top, that will cause a shadow in the light output. Try the H7-B bulbs here, that will fix your problem. www.theretrofitsource.com/hid-parts/hid-bulbs-h-series/h7-morimoto-xb-hid.html
Hey man, I have a 2016 Honda Accord Sport and I currently have LED bulbs which aren’t bright enough. I have to constantly turn on my high beams just to see Down the road. It’s a 35W and everyone has been telling me I need to switch to HID 55W which would be bright enough without putting my high beams on to see the roads. Any recommendations or suggestions on which one I should get?
Do you happen to know the standard headlight bulb kelvin used on new toyota highlanders from 22 and up? Im trying to replace my interior and license plate light and i want them to be the same and not have diff color lighting
The 2022 Toyota Highlander comes equipped with LED headlights that have a color temperature of approximately 6000K, emitting a bright white light with a slight bluish tint.
@ yea sir after couple hrs of research i finally came to a solution to go for the 6000k and after watching your video helped persuade my decision. Thanks for replying to my question and solidifying my choice. Im going to replace my plate lights and all my interior lights as they are running off the yellow standard lighting. Cant wait im excited for my orders to come in. Once again thanks for replying.
The 35-watt ballast won’t supply the full power that a 50-watt bulb needs, meaning the bulb won’t reach its optimal brightness. As a result, you might see weaker light output, as the bulb won’t achieve the intensity it would with a compatible 50-watt ballast.
Check out our full selection of HID projectors, feel free to contact us directly for a personalized recommendation on what will work well for you: www.theretrofitsource.com/projector-kits/hid-led-projectors.html
You are absolutely correct, and that is due to the fact that with the 55W ballast, you would see the drop in Kalvin from the 6000K to the 5000K color temperature, which would be the brightest option!
You would want to go with the H7-B bulbs in the H7 Elite system, found here. We recommend the 5500K bulbs for a pure white light, with 35w ballasts. Will make you happy for sure. www.theretrofitsource.com/hid-systems-20/hid-systems-universal/h7-morimoto-elite.html

Can you guys help with my headlights? I got some spyder headlights and the low beams turn off and I hear that the ballasts are cheap, and I've heard that you guys can help fix that.
I’m after a set of D1S for my ‘15 7 series BMW. I’m ideally wanting the 4500k purpleish LED style look. I was considering the CBB’s, but unsure. Anyone recommend me something?
That 4500K is more of a warm color, where the 6500 is going to be blue, which is closer to that purple-ish color that you are going for. I would recommend going with the CBAs, as they will be the bluest bulb that we will have for your application. I have linked those for you here: www.theretrofitsource.com/d1s-osram-xenarc-66144-cba-B-66144CBA?quantity=1
What you didn't mention is that the lower colour temperatures allow you to see colour better. The CRI. Typically with higher lumens output and higher colour temp, you lose colour rendition. For me seeing colours properly is more pleasing than having slightly more lumens out front, I really don't like the pure white look at night.
Rob - thats a great point. Lower Kelvins like the 4500K typically allow you to see better, especially in all weather conditions, whereas the whiter light such as a 6000K will reflect off of particles in the air more
TheRetrofitSource Inc how much different will Hylux 2A88 ballast be with the same Morimoto bulb as far as performance? I'm comparing it to the Xentec ballast...

Im looking to put some hid's in my 2018 chevy malibu lt. It has oem projectors what would I need to do to install the 6500k bulbs in my car. And is 6500k by morimoto noticing blue but not too much? I'd like the light to look like the blue 6500k in the video but you said you dont sell 8000k bulbs so what should I do?
Hello if you still need help please visit our webpage at www.theretrofitsource.com and use the chat function. One of our customer service reps will be able to assist you from there.
What kelvin do the current model GMC Sierras HD have? I have a 2018 Silverado HD and would love to match the oem look of the sierras. Also what’s the closest kelvin to match the morimoto xb fog lights?
For me I prefer 4500K or 4300K which OEM factoury
Right, 4500k is bright but doesn't blind oncoming drivers like the 5500k+
6000K and even 8000K is terrible man.
Nobody cares nigga
So I have a 14 f150 with the oem HID’S, looking to upgrade and I bought the 5500k bulbs. Will these take time to warm up or is it like the stock ones were it’s no time to warm up and the output of light is instant?
If you're still running the factory ballast they should warm up the same as the bulbs you already have.
How can i go on buying the 6500k for my 2015 grandcherokee both my headlight and for my fogs
Hello !.... ¿what kelvins does a Mercedes benz slk 2013 have?.... please !!!...
That depends on the light you're using, how long you've been using it, etc.
I have an 08 Acura TL and am looking to replace my OEM 4300k HIDs, looking at yuur descriptive video I want a color code somewhere between 5000k-6500k what brands and or available options do yuu guys have to help me make a decision. Stock ballast are 35w please any help would be appreciated as my driver side HID turned pink and than failed on me smdh
brightest white possible w some blue is what I’m looking for thanks
Morimoto HID kits are always a good choice ;)
Try white vision maybe? I got white vision d2s 6000k for my m3 e46. Seems solid for now :)
Kas ESO ended up coping a pair of osram mega white 6500k on a 35w ballast for my car, there very nice on initial start up but go super white when warmed up. Look nice just not the exact colour I wanted but I nw knw they’ll become bluer w age
@@slumygoat Glad to hear! And white looks better than yellowish so that's a win. :D
Thank you....Shia LaBeouf
LOL TRSMatt could be related to Shia... the world may never know.
Does this information work as well with LED bulbs?
Yes it can, but most LED bulbs are in the 6000K range.
What xenon bulb do you recommend for the closet to oem LED headlight colour? (example Merc, BMW's Leds)
If you are wanting to mimic an LED color, you will want higher on the Kelvin range. Most LEDs are going to be rated at 5800 to 6000K.
@@RetrofitSource Thanks, but the Kelvin rating on the box aren't quite accurate ain't it? Osram Cbb for example.
I have now gone blind.
Me too 👨🦯👨🦯👨🦯
The thing is.its posible you to send me here in italy?
I love the 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR V8 Full beam it's instant, flashy and bright.
I read that Morimoto sources their bulbs from CNLight, is this accurate??
Many years ago...after 2011 (or so) they stopped using CNLight as a supplier
TheRetrofitSource Inc thanks for the info! Are Morimoto XB bulbs a little brighter than CNLight?
What does Cadillac come with
Which Cadillac? :)
2012 cts v sedan
Will the higher watt ballast we used will fastern the projector's oxidation?
On some projectors yes, like a Mini H1, but on most full size projectors like a D2S or FX-R, no problem
thanks for you info =)
maybe a strange question but on a 35 watt ballast, a 50 watt d3s xenon can be connected. Does this have consequences?
The 35-watt ballast won’t supply the full power that a 50-watt bulb needs, meaning the bulb won’t reach its optimal brightness. As a result, you might see weaker light output, as the bulb won’t achieve the intensity it would with a compatible 50-watt ballast.
What do you recommend for a 1974 VW Beetle?
It's really personal preference but we find most people like the 5500k.
What should i use for the project lights? I want it to be bright

Which Kalvin is good for fog and safe
3000k!
I think 6000K 55W will give the brightest HID luminosity with pure white light.
You are absolutely correct, and that is due to the fact that with the 55W ballast, you would see the drop in Kalvin from the 6000K to the 5000K color temperature, which would be the brightest option!
I have a 2014 Subaru Outback what bulb do I need for HID Conversion? Thanks!
Send us an email to Sales@TheRetrofitSource.com and we will get you exactly what you need!
I have a 2013 kia optima any idea what i should get for color and brightness? I was thinking 20000LM blueish color! Or dhould i go brighter
You would want to go with the H7-B bulbs in the H7 Elite system, found here. We recommend the 5500K bulbs for a pure white light, with 35w ballasts. Will make you happy for sure. www.theretrofitsource.com/hid-systems-20/hid-systems-universal/h7-morimoto-elite.html
Thanks. I ordered 35w 6000k white with hint of blue but still bright.
Also what a good lights for fogs? LED or HID
I have a pair of after market headlights whit a sucky projector... Are yall able to replace it with one of those projectors?
Definitely. Ether our Spyder or Spec-D RetroQuik kits are the likely fix you need!

TheRetrofitSource Inc can i send you guys the headlight to get it done?
I wanted to know if these will be compatible to use on a 2007 Toyota Tundra? And 2006 Acura TSX?
Yes definitely. For your 07 Tundra you would need an H4 setup, and for your 06 TSX, D2S. We've got both!
So if I buy a conversion kit and want the look of the 5500s I gotta but the 6500 for my 2018 2500hd Silverado?
If you want the 50w ballasts, then yes 6500K will look like a 5500K
4200 k is best for all driving conditions 👍
Does the LED fog light option match the color of headlights if I choose 35w, 5500K? (2014+ sierra morimoto elite).
Yes! The LED fogs are a 5500k color as well.

Thank you!
Can you guys help with my headlights? I got some spyder headlights and the low beams turn off and I hear that the ballasts are cheap, and I've heard that you guys can help fix that.
We definitely can! give us a call at 404-220-7940 or email support@theretrofitsource.com we're happy to help!
TheRetrofitSource Inc thank you
What you didn't mention is that the lower colour temperatures allow you to see colour better. The CRI. Typically with higher lumens output and higher colour temp, you lose colour rendition.
For me seeing colours properly is more pleasing than having slightly more lumens out front, I really don't like the pure white look at night.
Rob - thats a great point. Lower Kelvins like the 4500K typically allow you to see better, especially in all weather conditions, whereas the whiter light such as a 6000K will reflect off of particles in the air more
That's the reason I have 100w hid 4300k for my car.
So I have different ballasts ( xentec ) ......can I just order the bulbs and will it power your brand of bulbs??
Yes, you can still use our bulbs with your Xentec ballasts
TheRetrofitSource Inc how much different will Hylux 2A88 ballast be with the same Morimoto bulb as far as performance? I'm comparing it to the Xentec ballast...
