My #1 tip as a plant girlie is never ever ever water on a schedule. Stick your finger into the soil 2 inches and if the soil is completely dry then it’s time to water her. Also, most house plants are tropical plants and need a ton of direct sunlight. Put Callie in front of a window that gets a ton of light or invest in a plant light.
Glad to hear from you again. Good luck on the new job. I'm such a night owl I know the pain of staying up too late. Sadly, I have a career that requires early mornings. I often don't even realize how late it's becoming, but then I regret the morning alarm.
🦎 Congratulations on the career switch. It definitely sounds like an overall positive change. I get off work at 4:30, too, and it's wonderful. Gives me time to exercise, cook well, and still have time to wind down in the evening. Whenever I visit my local vet clinic, I try SO hard to be the nicest, most grateful person on earth, because I know everyone in that office is overworked, underpaid, under stress, and not always treated well by patrons. lol.
I have managed to keep a calathea alive for a year! Here is what I’ve done: they need consistently moist soil, but can’t be in standing water. I water mine every two weeks, but I have a blown-glass watering stake in it that I keep filled. That seems to help. This plant needs indirect light, so keep it near a window but not in a window. The only issue I’ve had is the ends of the leaves turn brown at times, but it is still growing new leaves so I think it’s okay.
Congrats on the new job! Calatheas are straight up jerks as far as plants. I highly recommend a peperomia or hoya because they are more forgiving as plants
Hooray for the career switch! I totally get the nerves and discomfort of starting a new job and having to learn the new routines, ways of processing paperwork/phone calls, navigating new relationships with coworkers and bosses in the new company. You'll get the rhythms down in no time! The current job I have now is remotely processing paperwork and I love it. Once you get the hang of your job and the jargon, it's a very soothing routine. The fact that I start and end work at the same time everyday is so nice too. I get done at 3:30pm each day and I love it. Again, especially being work from home makes a difference too!
Congratulations on the new job!!! 👍👍👍 Learning new things is good for your brain! 😊😊😊 I have had jobs that started very early, which was always a struggle, because I'm naturally a night owl and find it VERY hard to get myself TO bed at a decent hour! Called is a great name for your plant girlie! 🌱🌱🌱 You seem very happy and on track for the life you want!!! Continued love and health!!! 💜🐱💜
I finally was able master potted plants and I’m sure some plant parents will disagree with me, but I wait for my plants to tell me when they need water. I wait until their leaves droop, and then immediately water them and they perk right back up. I’ve kept 3 very different plants alive and very healthy for 3 years now with this method. Conditions vary so much there’s no way the label on the plant can tell me when to water. Kind of makes me think of what I’ve learned in therapy about listening to your body 😂 your plants tell you what they need if you listen😌
When I was in Vet Med I worked 10 hour days and didn't really even get a lunch. We were still expected to pick up the phone or help people when they walked in. Always grateful I decided not to be a vet. 🐈⬛
Congrats on the move to a new career field! It sounds like this is a great choice for you and your family. As someone who has a passion that is low paying (being a preschool teacher) and as a result had to switch careers to afford my bills, I totally understand. I personally have found ways to still work with kids (babysitting mostly!), and I know that there are options available for you to still make some money and hang out with animals. It's of course not always ideal to have to make that switch, but for me it's been a huge life changer. I put myself in a position to do a different job I liked and moved my way up, while still working with kids on the side. Best of luck as you move forward!
I'm the plant parent of a pink cyclamen and a tiny cactus that I got while visiting Arizona. The cyclamen has been going strong for two and a half years but the cactus is kind of dying sadly.
Yay!! So happy for you!! ❤❤❤ Career changes are scary but the cool thing about new stuff is it isn't new forever! Soon, it'll be your job that you know and are good at ❤ I've done this quite a few times and yes it is draining but so worth it. One day you'll wake up and realize you're doing it! Love you and good luck!!
Some of my favorite animals ➡️ 🐓🐕🦺🐈⬛🐑🐦⬛🐎🦉🦜 All the best of luck in your new job ❤ They’re lucky to have you as their new employee 🥳😄🙋🏼♀️ I hope you treat yourself to a nice cup of coffee and some cake 🍰 ☕️ Or whatever you enjoy eating/drinking. 🌼🌼🌼 I’m sure you’ll be great in your new career! ❣️🤗
A huge congrats on the new job. Thank you for not going into details about the doggy that was very injured. I can't deal with hearing about injured dogs. It breaks me.

Yellow leaves usually mean you are overwatering. Instead of timing your watering, I recommend a little moisture meter.

I do the same!
Congratulations Elly! So great you have a predictable schedule.🙀
I love how your new workplace has a koi pond and people can bring their dogs in for the work day! That place sounds like a dream!!

I was a vet tech for yrs, sounds about right. You don't get paid shit even if you're registered and go to school
