    What a great pick of the bollywood classic. Justice has been served by an English man who takes himself to the ancient poets of true romance who see God in everything that Is.

    This song - Chaudvin Ka Chaand - gives me goosebumps. And it is so eloquent, and beautifully still. There is a calmness.
    And the way Waheeda is captured in this song is purely divine. Her beauty holds no bounds. And the song lyrics are deeply poetic and dreamy. It does absolutely transport you into this forgotten world of blissful romance.
    I enjoy romance from this era. The romance takes its time to build, and then slowly blossoms. There is an appreciation of the person you're falling in love with. You're embracing one another for who you are, and there is a stillness - time to hold onto a thought or feeling. I adore this way of being romanced - you really do feel special when someone is swooning over you.
    Today, romance feels mechanical, technical, and robotic - thanks to the terrible use of technology. There is no time to enjoy - or appreciate - someone. Everything has to be fast-and-furious and on show - 'Oh look at me, I'm with someone' - never mind how the person actually treats you. And it's really important how you treat one another in a (romantic) relationship.
    When I hear this song, I realise it's better to wait, than to rush in. Wait for the person who will embrace you, appreciate you, adore you, swoon over you, and sing 'Chaudvin Ka Chaand' to you!
    15 more to go - let the countdown begin!
    Great reaction as always, thank you! 😍

    I didn't appreciate this song till I saw the movie "My Beautiful Laundrette" starring very young Daniel D. Lewis. In the movie, I think Nasser played by Saed Jaffrey) closes the movie theater he owns so he and his wife can see this movie. And you see how captivated Nasser is with this song. This is probably one of the greatest Bollywood song of all time.

    About today's song, I sense that the lyrics is reminding me the pattern of Khalil Gibran's poets, which is sounding like coming truly from deep inside the heart and it touches other people's heart too 😮

    Aah, I've been waiting for you to cover this, it's one of my absolute favourites! Indeed, I'm surprised it didn't rank higher, but such a list can only ever be a reflection of its voters, and what the songs (as well the cinematography) mean to them. Nevertheless, Chaudhvin Ka Chand is a seminal moment in Bollywood history - it's nothing less than art, and it's impact through the ages can still be felt. As others have noted, even (Asian) British cinema has referenced its cultural impact (see My Beautiful Laundrette, or East is East). As much as the depth of the lyrics, or the voice of Muhammad Rafi (this was arguably his literal swan song), you have the chemistry of the two actors and the evocation of Lucknow, the cultural centre of the Mughal empire, its minarets and manicured gardens. One might consider Sanjay Leela Bhansali an inheritor in this regard, but I find his lavish sets can sometimes impede in the storytelling. Chaudhvin Ka Chand is a story much smaller in scale, and much more intimate.
    Having said that, I must say, I was as surprised as you to find that the film is considered to be of a "Muslim social" genre, but in all honesty, I find the plot problematic anyway, at least by today's standards. It's the cultural mindset of the Mughal empire that drives the characters forward: it's less a love triangle, and more a discussion on ideas of sacrifice, chivalry, generosity and brotherhood. In short, Rehman has fallen in love with Waheeda Rehman, not realising she is the wife of his best friend, Guru Dutt. Rather than break his friend's heart, Dutt conspires to surreptitiously destroy his own marriage, so that his friend will be free to marry Waheeda Rehman. His friend, discovering the truth, is overcome with guilt, and kills himself. Now, I could never understand the higher ideals to which this is supposed to aspire, and it certainly requires swallowing a lot of romance about the refined ethics of the Mughals, inherited from the Persians and the Arabs. Waheeda Rehman, for example, really fills her role (if you watch the digitally remastered version, it's easier to appreciate the subtleties of her every facial expression), but her character is never interrogated to any great extent, and she essentially remains a function of the story between the two male friends. But, as you suggested yourself with reference to the poster, she is the object of obsession, and obsession implies distance, and a lack of nuance. Still, it rather beggars belief that a culture would flatten a woman's worth to such an extent as to be bartered between friends, even one as refined as the Mughals. But is it fair to judge social mores from a different time and space?

    ya zindagi ke saaj pe chhedi hui gazal
    jaane bahaar tum kisi shaayar ka khwaab ho
    chaudahavin ka chaand ho..
    Honthon pe khelati hain tabassum ki bijaliyaan

    duniya-e-husn-o-ishq ka tum hi shabaab ho
    chaudahavin ka chaand ho..

    Did you know that in real life, this director/actor was actually in love with this actress, and he committed suicide since he could not have her because he was already married. His wife, Geeta Dutt also committed suicide when she learned that he loved this actress, Waheeda Rehman.

    • @Josh_Tsu1067
      @Josh_Tsu1067 2 роки тому

      actually your facts aren't 100% correct it is true that Guru Dutt was in love with Waheeda Rehman or perhaps these were rumors that created a lot turmoil within the marriage of Guru-Geeta Dutt
      Guru Dutt attempted suicide twice in his life they were unsuccesful
      it is confirmed by his son Arun that since he use to stay late he took sleeping pills regularly
      on the very last day he passed
      he went for a drink with a friend
      probably he was drunk and wasn't aware that he was mixing alcohol and pills which is a lethal mix back at the day it wasn't a common knowledege that this can lead to death
      so it is either an accident or an unfortunate case of suicide.
      Geeta Dutt died two years later because of her troubles she started drinking heavily and suffering from alcoholism leading to Cirrhosis of the liver

    In this time the acting in movies is itself a very bold step for Muslims but it happened so the picturization of these type of songs is beyond level cuz inMuslim culture the exposure of sentiments is bad.

    • @shabnumtv9097
      @shabnumtv9097 2 роки тому

      This is not true. Muslims were involved in the film industry from the very start, in front of the camera and behind it. In fact, most of the people populating the film crews were Muslim, not because of their faith, but because of their class and their technical education. Furthermore, Urdu (which is commonly associated with the Muslim community) was more popularly understood in Bollywood than Punjabi, higher levels of Hindi or Sanskrit precisely because Indian society was more secular at this time, and more films were made involving Muslim characters (not because the story lines were specifically Islamic, which they weren't). To illustrate this point, the film Amrapali starring the divine Vyjayantimala was not successful at the time of its release in 1966, because Indian audiences at the time were not as familiar with the higher levels of Hindi or Sanskrit that was spoken throughout the film. It only gained cult status much later. Sanskrit became more common in Bollywood during the late 1970s when Indian society became more polarised, and the secular ideals associated with Indian Independence lost their popular appeal. Also, because the Muslim community became less educated over time and less outward looking in its perspective, it became more conservative in their social mores. Tthis prevented them from participating more fully in film making as films became more sexually provocative. Indians had no problem whatsoever wearing sarees while filming in Japan or Paris in the 1960s, but from the 1970s Indian dress as depicted in Bollywood moved away from this, which some conservative Muslims have reacted to. It's a vicious circle: when film no longer accurately reflects the lived experiences of audiences, the less able they are to join the industry. This is true for all ethnic and religious minorities
