My gosh Patrick I’m currently running 5 km in 29 minutes. That’s close to your 10 km time! 😂 You’re a machine! 👏🏻🤗🇨🇦

Haha thank you very much, but 29 minutes is a very good time and a lot faster than most people!
I think studies have shown that most people cannot complete a 5k running so you’re way ahead of the game. Hopefully that’s the good thing about the channel though, in that I hopefully can go towards helping everyone get better and enjoy running and become interested in athletics!

When I was making good progress on my running, I was doing a vo2 max session once a week. 6 x 1k and 2 to 3 minutes standing recovery between reps. I got my 5k pb down to sub 17 for the first time. I need to add this back in for sure

That’s a great time! Yes, those types of vo2 sessions will definitely help you to get faster times again, and also some threshold work would be beneficial too!

I want to podium at one of our country's 10.55K races. They are not 10K exactly because they use the loop for the marathon and it has to be this odd distance. One doable podium for my abilities: the times of the winners are usually 40mins (or 37:50 for 10K). I'm pretty far away from that time, currently my 10.55K time is 47:20 (44:50 10K). I'm lowering my PRs by a rate of a minute every 1-2 months the last 9 or so months just by increasing the volume (and my paces according to my new best time). I don't do complicated workouts, just long tempos here and there and fartleks.

That sounds like you’re making really good progress, so well done on that! And working towards a podium is a great goal.
Fartlek training and tempo runs are definitely good things to be doing, and they are clearly working for you. I also find that intervals have been really helpful, as they allow you to run at faster paces and make you better at sustaining these paces in a race. And they don’t need to be complicated at all, but I find that it’s fun to mix things up sometimes. I hope you’re enjoying the channel and finding the content helpful!

Great video! When you say 5k race pace at about 8:05 do you mean per mile or per kilometer?

Hi there! Thank you! So, my 5k race pace is about 3 minutes per kilometre, and about 4:49 per mile. I hope that helps!

I should have been clearer. You said that threshold pace is usually 10 to 25 sec slower than 5k race pace, but is it 10-25 sec slower per mile or per kilometer? (or per 5k but I doubt that is what you meant)@@PatrickTheRunner

@@Ethor-il4vh Aww right okay, I understand. I meant that threshold pace is usually around 10-25 seconds per k slower than 5k race pace, but that is just a rough estimate and there are race calculators online that will work it out more accurately for you. I hope that helps
