- In this video I am finishing the restoration of this old Rem Line tool box that has been in my life for some time. This video covers bondo, primer, painting and reinstallation of the accessories. It is also a good example that anyone can restore a similar old metal object with some basic tools and some patience.

I just got the same box for free, I plan on doing a similar restoration. Thank you for some great tips
Glad it was helpful and enjoy! It's a lot of fun
Nice job Catanzaro. A neighbor who was moving out gave me an old Kennedy toolbox I am in the process of restoring. Thanks for the excellent tips.
Very cool! Those are great boxes too! Thank you so much
It looks great , nice to refurbish older tools and storage .
Thank you! I agree! They don't make tools like this anymore and they are worth keeping around.
I loved watching your video, your very skilled at restoration.I have 2 large red tool chests,i wouldn't dare restorate them,i would make them look worse looool,i love the blue colour you chose to re-paint it,Tottenham Hotspurs blue.Great work mate cheers😅
Thank you very much! I appreciate the kind words. You can do it too! I believe in you. Cheers
I have the same toolbox with matching bottom roll around. I bought it used off the Mac Tool truck for $50 back in 1980 when I was working at a car dealer. It was in bad shape as far as the paint job. I totally refinished it using epoxy paint. Used it everyday at my jobs and it's still going strong at home since I recently retired.
That's awesome! Those are great boxes!
Great job! Restoring boxes is a time intensive job. I have done several, large and small. In fact, I currently have several that i intend to do, five old top boxes, and one roll cab! One of the top boxes and the roller are Rem Line brand and slated to be my sons. I fully intend to involve him in the stripping and prepping of the top box and roller along with me. I believe he will appreciate the finish product more if he has sweat equity in the project. Since he has little in the way of paint experience i will let him prime, but only paint inside box and roller and underside. I will apply top coat to all surfaces that show.
Thanks for sharing your project!
That sounds great! I agree with you, the memories will be the best part. There are much better boxes out there than this but I remember working out of it with my dad as a kid and I'll keep it and use it forever because of that. Enjoy the journey!
I like that blue! Nice choice. It looks great.
Thank you! It's inspired from the old Craftsman line, I wish I could still find those!
Amazing job!!
Thank you!!
Thanks for the terrific video. I’ve got an old Craftsman machinists chest from the 50’s that I’m going to restore. I learned some great tips from you!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it and learned something! Awesome, I'm sure it will turn out great!
Beautiful job!
Thank you so much 😀
Looks GREAT! My favorite color too! 💯
I think so too! It somewhat matches my Craftsman, that's why I went with blue.
Great job! Really enjoyed watching both parts. Thanks for posting and sharing your techniques.
Thanks for watching!
Amazing work! Great colour
Thanks a lot!
Nice job, I love old tool boxes. I did a little smaller SO years ago. If I were to repaint another I would buy paint for a gun. There is way more surface area than most would imagine if they had never painted one.
Thank you and I agree! Especially a bigger one like this. Glad you liked it!
Blue color looks good turned out great.
Thank you! I like it over the red!
I had a good laugh at "the crimes of poor paint". I just finished "touching up" a Craftsman roll away. As I write this I am waiting for the Paint Police to come and arrest me for I committed a few "paint crimes". You definitely put more effort into your box than I did. Great job! That drawer liner you used looked pretty heavy duty.
I'm glad you liked it! I'll be right there with you for "our crimes"! It is holding up pretty well.
GREAT RESCUE!
Adam
Thank you!

Excellent. I love it
Thank you very much!

Fantastic job 👏 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job, I've just got a snap on tool chest that has been sitting in a damp shed since 1999 😂. I'm going to attempt to fix it up
You can do it! Good luck!
Nice work!
Thanks!
Nice restoration!
Thank you! Cheers!

Thanks, you too!
Nice job man 👍
Thanks! 👍
Nice job
Thanks!
Nice restore I prefer my Remline tool chest it’s from the 1960’s covered with paper and vinyl stickers from a number of projects. I recently reclined the drawers with thin indoor out door carpet that covered the 60 years west. I also want to tell you the correct key is a double sided double tumblers mine is on top a craftsman roll away box on heavy duty casters. Your missing the removable tool tray that fits in the top these are kind of out of fashion so mine has battery packs and a charger there.
I like the carpet idea! That's a good tip for the next one I do! Thank you for the feedback.
excelente
I appreciate it
I bought the exact same tool box, but in alot worst condition! I'm going to restore it, where did you get the lock??
Does anyone know what gauge steel is used in the making of Remline tool boxes?
Excellent job! Your name plate was a great final touch. Can you please send the Amazon link so I can order one also? Thank you. 13:04
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words. Here is the link for the name plate I used www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078W6BH5G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
where did you buy the replacement lock and hardware
Mcmaster-Carr. I was able to take measurements and match it up right on their app.
Where did you get your emblem for your shop made? Thanks
I actually had it made on Amazon! Some items can be customized, this was like $10. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078W6BH5G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm doing this exact same toolbox. First timer so will probably suck. Will report back!
Good luck! It's a great toolbox and I'd love to see it when you're done!
Where did you get the carry handle?
I picked ones that were close from McMaster-Carr
What was the primer you used?
I used Rustoleum filler primer. It works great and removes any small inconsistencies.
Not bad 8 \10 sorry .👍
I appreciate it!
the hole you filled in is for the top lid stop
You're right!
I want to teach how to paint. Otherwise, nice resto.
I do have a lot to learn with painting.
No está mal el trabajo, pero se podría mejorar
Gracias!
That's more of a customization than a restoration! Restoration would imply that You return it to factory colors.
That's true!
My drawers are stuck and cant even open them not even an inch
Mine were a little stuck too from being bent and a little rusty. I would try a lot of WD40 or something similar and let it sit for a bit! Good luck!
Lot of work when you didnt straighten the joint and resolder it
Agreed! Make and post of video of how it is done so I can do it that way in the future.
that paint job is really bad, while putting on the handles you can easily see the paint job has blotches, you need to apply it more evenly, other than that not bad.
Thanks!
