Well I've been using the shower method for a long time and than when I step out I use my towel to clean and dry my ears I never knew it was an actual cleaning method though, the more you know!! 😆👂👍🌠💯
I use Q-tips after I shower. I shower, add a little bit of soap and only clean the skin and then rinse. I tip my head over and spin a Q-tip in getting the edges inside. My ears are clean. I can also feel my ear drum so I know how deep to go. My doctor is amazed
1 years later but damn. I thought I was the only one who use Q-tip everyday after a shower. I usually just use my towel and click on my ear to provide a way for the water to go out, that I combined them with a Q-tip make me feel like I was too paranoid, but luckily there's someone like me too out there haha
When I wash my ears in the shower, I use my finger to rub some soap inside the ear canal. I then simultaneously splash water into my ear canal while using my finger to wash out the soap from inside my ear. Is this the safe thing to do...Or how do you recommend washing your ears in the shower?
@@lototheflo9640 And I am guessing that I shouldn't "stick my finger" inside my ear canal to clean it out while I am showering, correct? Yesterday when I showered, I just rubbed soap on the outer parts of my ears, and then let the shower water to spray and clean the inside and outer parts of my ears.
I wouldn't purposefully put soap into the ear canal. I use the shower method because my right ear gets blocked up frequently. I stopped using that method for a while because I figured our showerhead might be dirty and started using Qtips again just a week or so ago. Lo and behold, both ears are getting blocked! I try not to get soap in my ears, but it happens. Especially w having long hair. I'm sure it prob doesn't hurt anything as long as you aren't forcing it into the ear and irrigate it well enough w water. Prob good to use pure soap in that case too, with no harsh chemicals, dyes, or fragrance oils. (Ivory is my go to soap these days) :P
Simply using earbuds can end up causing impaction and earwax buildup. So I've heard. Make sure to clean your ears before using them. Also, if you use earbuds as a side sleeper, I would imagine that could maybe cause issues too. As earwax builds up and travels laterally (downward) with gravity.
oh boy, i used them almost 24/7 and suddenly one morning i lost my hearing lol i got it all cleaned and now i tried to dial using it down a bit you might not want to insert it TOO deeply, don't use it for hours without unplugging, and definitely don't use them without cleaning the outer parts of your ear canal well i dont mean you should clean them daily, just wipe some of your ear with a cloth after a shower
Thanks for this Doc. I am making a promise to myself to stop using cotton buds from today. My ENT prescribed Cerumol to soften the wax. I will use the shower water technique as well. I hope to get some relief and a cleaner ear.
I lost hearing but got recovered frrom it but i suspect i have packed ear wax in my ear... my hearing is normal now... i cleaned my ear with qtip and kinda go little deep and i felt something there like a hard substance in my ear.. not insect or anything cuz if it is im dead by now... im doing the shower thing.. actually i did that before and it worked so tht might work now
Things started to sound muted so I decided to use a Q-tip and I did end up pushing the wax deeper down, now I can’t hear out of my ear. I might try the syringe,
Thanks for that. I'm curious about that balloon device as I have one damaged ear for a long time, and the device looks like it would be soft and gentle. I find that avoiding radiation next to the ear (headphones, listening to the Internet, at a high volume) is awful for ears, as is it when audio isn't constant for left and right recording devices. A nurse once syringed my ear with cold water after I had to sleep to the sound of an alarm for a few days, and I have tmj disorder. I do have a mothguard to deal with bruxism but I've got spine problems so I tend to just exercise and stretch muscles instead. I've got a tumour on my oesophagus behind my weakest ear, and seemingly histamine dysregulation since giving up quetiapine and then I moved to the coast and had to adapt to living at a higher altitude! My ears are always uncomfortable and with problems. Thanks for letting me know I was right to suspect that I need to leave my poor earwax alone, if possible, to do it's work. I did use filtered olive oil spray a few months back, and suction, but I fear trapping air bubbles in there, and have noticed my eustacian tube is always numb.

@jorgemartinbg...I used to experienced that liquid streaming from ear as a child, or whenever I eat any hot soup. Strange but I never had vertigo then. Your vertigo might be associated with the middle ear. Maybe worth seeing your doctor.
You ever figure out the vertigo thing? Is it when you move your head in a certain way? If so you might want to look up BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo).

Just be VERY carful if you will decide to use hydrogen peroxide ! If it will get into eye - its game over for eye. In one shitty russian hospital some doctor made a mistake and used it instead of atropine ... patient got blind. and there is no way to fix that. For removing ear wax you can buy A-Cerumen or REMO-WAX. But you will still probably need to flush. *flushing ears can make you very dizzy and make you want to puke.
My ENT once had such a hard time trying to remove my ear wax that he sent me away, told me to use mineral oil every day for a week to soften the wax, then come back. What an ordeal. Then once, my blocked ear wax broke loose on its own in my sleep and I awoke with loads of warm wax just gushing down the side of my face. It was AWESOME!!!!
This is what caused me to have blocked ears. Hot shower melted the wax and then I couldn't barely hear a thing. After a week of softening I used a syringe (with pressure cut outs) and warm water and large amounts of wax dropped out. So satisfying to hear again.
The only two things were getting an ear wash and having a doctor actually pluck it out. Just see a doctor every year to clean your ears and don't wear earbuds all day. I wear over the ear headphones consistently now that I've realized earbuds keep shoving wax back in.
I've been using the shower method for years now. I used to get bad earwax build up and had trouble cleaning it out with peroxide. After watching earwax cleaning videos on UA-cam in which they used water irrigation, I realized that I could just do that in the shower. Since then I've never had any noticeable earwax build-up. I let the shower stream run into each ear for 10-20 seconds once or twice a week. Recently curiosity got the best of me and I bought one of those ear cameras they sell everywhere now. I was interested to find that, while my eardrum and most of my ear canal is clean, there's a small "ring" of earwax fairly close to my eardrum...I never have any issues and didn't know it was even there, but now I'm wondering if I should try to clean it out with peroxide. I couldn't resist trying to scrape it out with the little cup on the end of the camera, but that was a bad idea. I managed instead to make a small abrasion in my ear canal and the earwax didn't budge. So now I'm just leaving it alone while it heals, but I may do a peroxide treatment later. Everyone says earwax is normal but I've never once seen an example of how _much_ earwax is normal. I wish a doctor or ear specialist would do a video and show what normal earwax looks like and also how much is too much and needs to be cleaned.
Everyone has a different normal amount. Like I have tons- each day I make more than my mother has made in her entire life lol I’ve been doing the shower thing for like 15 years after I got sick of paying the dr to do it with a water pik like once a month and now I never have had another ear infection and can hear really good too. I wouldn’t mess with hydrogen peroxide (even tho some ppl like it) because it’s not great for your cells and skin and tissues, so if you do wash with water right after but I wouldn’t recommend it, just water is best:)
I think you should leave especially youre not feeling it and doesnt blocks your hearing, because your body actually needs ear wax to prevent infections on your ear
A little bit of earwax has its purpose you know. It keeps fungi out, it moisturizes your earcanal ( preventing itch) it keeps water out when you swim, protects against ceftain bacteria.. don’t worry about seeing a little bit. It’s there to protect you.
Apparently I ruptured my ear drum when I was very young, I was too young to remember and my parents never mentioned it. Wasn’t until I was almost 30 and went to an otolaryngologist for a sinus issue that I found out. No wonder I get ear infections from using peroxide in my ears.
I do have a little hearing problem idk y so i feel i need to clean my earwax. I seen from another vid from a dr saying to drop olive oils to soften the earwax. What do you think?
Ok dude, so, heres the problem. All I am hearing from you is variations on, don't do it. Ear drops don't do anything for me, shower sluicing doesn't do enough. Twice in three years, I have had to visit the hospital to get my ears suctioned, because I had wax plugs the size of 8mm Mauser rounds lodged up there. People NEED a mechanical method of removing that material, that they can use at home with no training or specialist knowledge. They DON'T need a bunch of ways NOT to do that. None of the stuff you listed actually works. I can't afford the time I've spent getting referred to a hospital, and I live in the UK where I can get it done for no charge. Imagine how much worse this is for folks in the US, who can't see a doctor of any sort without selling a redundant organ or offering up the soul of their firstborn to the dark god, Do'Llar. People need solutions that allow them to pull plugs out at home, or they'll just keep resorting to crap that doesn't work or makes it worse. Throw people a bone here!
@peteredward2318...... you are lucky. I had just been to Casualty I thought I had the cotton bud dislodged in my ear & was told I had some hardened wax in one ear that needs syringing etc but that NHS hospitals don't do that anymore, nor by GPS. Have to pay privately! Disappointing to hear this as this is surely part of health care service should continue to be offered.
Bingo, finally a human comment, I was reccommended the same shit by a clinical doctor and a hospital doctor, the hospital doctor attempted to curette and just shoved the wax deeper, hospital had nothing else apparently, ha, couldn't tell you how close I am to being on the news.
I swear shower water really works like a charm I usually don’t dry my ears until after I apply lotion then I sit down and start wiping out my ears… yeah the water is annoying sitting in your canal but having that moisture in there really pushes all the wax out.
I do that method too and it does work. However, I recently got an ear camera and was surprised to see a small ring of earwax less than a centimeter from my eardrum! My eardrum is clear of wax, but I'm thinking the shower water stream pushes some earwax into a ring. The water apparently disperses it off the eardrum though, and onto the sides of the canal, so that's probably good. I never have problems, so I guess it's OK. I wonder if others using the shower method have this result.
I make too much earwax and sometimes, fairly often for the past like 8 months I will wake up with clogged ears. I hear very bad out of them and if I do use a q-tip it will like break a barrier of buildup wax. I know I shouldn't put things in my ear but that's essentially the only way I can get it. I also clog up headphones super easy
I get the argument that you shouldn't need to clean your ears, but sadly in my case that simply isn't true. I have lost count of how many times I have had to go to a clinic to have hardened or sticky earwax removed from my ears because it's causing a blockage, resulting in my hearing being muffled. After having this happen a few times, I finally saw an ENT, and as it turns out my ear produces more earwax than it actually needs for whatever reason, making me more susceptible to blockages. He told me I should use a syringe every week or so with warm water to wash out wax buildup. He also recommended the shower water method too, but said using a syringe might be better. I've been using a syringe for months and have had no blockages, but it wore out and need to buy a new one. I've also heard that a syringe could cause ear infection too, so now I'm trying the shower water method to see if that's enough, so I don't need to worry about infection or keep buying a new syringe when one wears out. Hopefully that'll be enough. If not, I'll probably pay another visit to the clinic and go back to using a syringe. Funnily enough, my girlfriend has the opposite problem. Her ears don't produce enough earwax, and she commonly gets dry ear because of it.
Okay but here’s the thing: there are times when I feel my ear is just draining draining like a faucet and it tickles and itches and I also can’t hear as well out that ear. Maybe has to do with allergies and Eustachian tube problems but either way, rubbing a tissue at the opening does not help and ear drops don’t work. So I caved and used an oto-scoop with a guard. I wish they made them out of silicone though because plastic hurts. And I don’t wanna waste a doctors time or money if my insurance doesn’t cover it to get an ear cleaning when I don’t even know if I have so much wax that can’t be removed at home
I have also suffered from draining from ear Firstly blood and then yellow pus After taking antibiotics draining stoped but having hearing issues Unable to listen clearly from my left ear What to do Can someone help?
They never advertise qtips for cleaning inside the ear. They sometimes show a person cleaning the outer ear with them. At this point I would think most people have been repeatedly told not to use qtips inside the ear. They also always have a warning on the box that says not to use them inside the ear.
"even though that ear candle does remove debris out of the canal" ??? What? How are you an ENT saying something like that? Ear candling is complete quackery. If you light an ear candle cone and simply hold it in the air, zero ear or anything involved, it still "gathers debris" inside of it, because the paper is made with paraffin and as it burns it ends up creating a buildup in the paper cone. Ear candling is complete BS. It's a rolled up cone of paper that supposed to use the magic of smoke to remove wax from the ear. It's stupid and it's a ripoff at best, and seriously dangerous to your eardrum at worst.
What about over the counter ear drops? I’m always on the airplane and my ear pop or I suffer ear pain. That causes a ringing. Chewing gum doesn’t work & yawning does make it go away fully. Any tips?
The best way is to reach over the top of your head with the opposite hand and pull the ear upward. This straightens the ear canal, allowing the water to flow in and out more easily.
I got my issue after water got in my ears in the shower. I think if you have a small ear canal it’s not good due to moisture can’t escape ? It’s not for everyone if you read the individual comments. Some yes, some it becomes the reason they have a problem…
From what I know, best thing (in most cases) is to just let them heal. Avoid any irrigation techniques unless performed by a doctor, as that may further complicate the current troublesome perforation. Bottom line, prob a good idea to see an ENT doc and get firsthand advice from them for possible treatment and prevention of further damage to the eardrum.
To note, if you are one of those people who suffers from earwax compaction (earwax builds up to such a degree that you lose hearing) then, yes, you are ok to and should clean out those ears. But only if you feel that compaction happening.
so last week i got my ear clogged up by water and got my hearing muffled for a day then suddenly i hear continous ringing on my ear. went to doctors and cleaned my ear doctor say theres ear wax and i need to use ear drops to soften the earwax but upon using the ear drops i keep getting my hearing muffled due to it does anyone know what to do or experience this thing as well
already got the wax removed then go to some clinic to test my hearing, was glad to hear that my hearing is normal and doctor says that i have great hearing lol , doing fine now btw
That's a good question! It may depend on what exactly may be causing the tinnitus. I have it, but don't really know what all can cause it in various circumstances. Whether it's an issue w the ear (damage over time) or in some cases a neurological disorder, etc. If I recall, in typical cases it may have something more to do with the tiny hairs in the ear (the scillia??) behind the eardrum, or in the cochlea? I should research this more lol. I do know leaving a fan running at night helps to make the ringing much more tolerable!

I’m not a doctor but I don’t think you need soap. Just warm water should be okay and understand that our ears need wax so try not to do it regularly
@@lototheflo9640
And I am guessing that I shouldn't "stick my finger" inside my ear canal to clean it out while I am showering, correct?
Yesterday when I showered, I just rubbed soap on the outer parts of my ears, and then let the shower water to spray and clean the inside and outer parts of my ears.
rainbow20112011 the only thing you should put in your ear is your elbow... and yes, you are correct
My ear still feels blocked after the ear drops, why is that?
Me listening to this with my right ear and him telling me not to clean my ears.
Does using an earphone lwhen you sleep cost earwax build up or any other ear problems?
I think it does, must be the problem I’m facing right now. I keep my AirPods in all the time and that’s probably why my ear is blocked now.
Simply using earbuds can end up causing impaction and earwax buildup. So I've heard. Make sure to clean your ears before using them.
Also, if you use earbuds as a side sleeper, I would imagine that could maybe cause issues too. As earwax builds up and travels laterally (downward) with gravity.
oh boy, i used them almost 24/7 and suddenly one morning i lost my hearing lol
i got it all cleaned and now i tried to dial using it down a bit
you might not want to insert it TOO deeply, don't use it for hours without unplugging, and definitely don't use them without cleaning the outer parts of your ear canal
well i dont mean you should clean them daily, just wipe some of your ear with a cloth after a shower
I deadass can't hear out my ear and he like "don't clean it guys" ❗❗❗❗❗
Ok...so if I get water in my ears while im its locked in and I can't hear for a week usually. What is the best way to handle that?
Same! I tried the shower method and now I just have a clogged ear. 😐
After pouring enough water to your ear, you should tilt your head to different way so the water come out & your hearing back to normal
I need help 😢
I’ve tried the shower method before but I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do.
Thanks for this Doc.
I am making a promise to myself to stop using cotton buds from today.
My ENT prescribed Cerumol to soften the wax. I will use the shower water technique as well. I hope to get some relief and a cleaner ear.
What about glycerin?
I lost hearing but got recovered frrom it but i suspect i have packed ear wax in my ear... my hearing is normal now... i cleaned my ear with qtip and kinda go little deep and i felt something there like a hard substance in my ear.. not insect or anything cuz if it is im dead by now... im doing the shower thing.. actually i did that before and it worked so tht might work now
Things started to sound muted so I decided to use a Q-tip and I did end up pushing the wax deeper down, now I can’t hear out of my ear. I might try the syringe,
How was your ear after that? Im experiencing the same thing right now but with both of my ears. It muffled pretty bad and i cant hear peoples talking
Wait so what I just pour out is dry flaky skin? I though I was removing the bad stuff @@
I used q-tips a long time ago and since then my ears started to stink do you know how to stop it from smelling
How do these tips change for dry (Asian) earwax?
If eat wax stops infections why does it create hearing lose and pain I’m so confused
Because excess earwax can build up and then harden which will cause a blockage and ear ringing with potential temporary hearing loss.
The shower water is what's making the ears feel blocked. 😪
Ay val amoo Sina👏🏻
Good advice, but the back ground music concert stills the show
Plz Doctor i need ur help i m in pain due to several things all related to ENT , i m so disappointed with Doctors n i m suffering from anxiety die to these problems.
Very nice video excellent thnks👌👌👌👍
LOL! Is ear wax recyclable or biodegradable?
Clean the outside? Bruh I can’t hear anything
What did you mean once a quarter?
Every 3 months. A quarter of a year.
I have wax outside of my ear and its too thick and attached with skin.i don't know what to do it looks so bad
Try using a washcloth with lukewarm water to try and wash it off
I do Proxide & Bobby pin
When I lay on my back I can feel water coming out all the time, is this normal? I’ve been having vertigo issues not sure if it’s related.
I use a soft tissue now and then
i use water then my mom mske me deaf with ear sticks so yea aim wery happy
It makes me feel when Dr's say "dont clean your ears" because if you do then they have no job
Pretty sure that removing wax is not the main procedure that they do
Is it OK to use iem headphones or do they act like qtips?
same question
But I hate getting out of the shower and feeling then wet.
Like he said u can clean all but the inside of ur ear
To bad i use Q tips to clean my ears all the time ‘cos i can’t stand the itching it irritate me so much
Don’t use Q tips! You’re pushing the earwax deeper into your ears
Can I use chewing gum?
Use olive oil and hydrogen peroxide!!!!!!!!!!

Q-tips are garbage!
I about shit myself when that spider ran across the screen.
Hell yeah, high five for wax pouring down your face.
Thanks Doctor
Did it feel clogged
Hey so as soon as I put ear drops in my left ear got completely blocked and I couldn't hear a thing. Is that normal? Temporary?
@@frankfrickinbowers9171 Yes it is normal.
Do u recommend ear wax removing vacuums? Is there a device that can be used for ear cleaning at home?
There are some really nice gadgets that have camera's on them. I think mild cleanings with them should be okay.
This is what caused me to have blocked ears. Hot shower melted the wax and then I couldn't barely hear a thing. After a week of softening I used a syringe (with pressure cut outs) and warm water and large amounts of wax dropped out. So satisfying to hear again.
Same
My dad's doc said he had the cleanest ears because he cleans them in the shower just like you said
The shower actually worked. Can’t believe I didn’t think of that first. Sometimes the most obvious thing is the best.
Thank you
It didn’t work for me, i don’t know why, is it because the water wasn’t that hot or what?
@@8-t-r903It’s too clogged most likely. Go to the doctor
The only two things were getting an ear wash and having a doctor actually pluck it out. Just see a doctor every year to clean your ears and don't wear earbuds all day. I wear over the ear headphones consistently now that I've realized earbuds keep shoving wax back in.
Some of us need to wear ear plugs everyday at work...
I think you should leave especially youre not feeling it and doesnt blocks
your hearing, because your body actually needs ear wax to prevent infections on your ear
Hey so after u pour the water in ear it gets clogged right? Does it unclog soon too? Feels scary to do so
A little bit of earwax has its purpose you know.
What does it feel like if anything? I'm wondering if I have one myself. Although I don't get any ear infections so I doubt it.
I use Earol (olive oil spray) every other week and shower water daily.
What time of day do you use the oil?
Just got it...
i got swimmers ear from my shower because i didn’t know there was water in my ear 😭😭 i guess i didn’t feel it
I do have a little hearing problem idk y so i feel i need to clean my earwax. I seen from another vid from a dr saying to drop olive oils to soften the earwax. What do you think?
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE SHOWER WATER METHOD OT WORKED LIKE A CHARM within 30 seconds u are probably a very trustong doctor in my books now thanks 👍👍
Thank you for these tips. I remember someone saying you shouldn't put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear.
Always would clean my ears during a shower and it works for me. Now my son does it too.
I got an ear infection and couldnt touch my ear for a long time and now it feels horrible 😰
I use Q-tips after I shower so my ears don't feel wet inside
Me too! I can’t stand moisture inside my ears 😩
He did agree with someone that asked about a suction device with a camera to see what your doing should be fine
You mention to not use "full strength" hydrogen peroxide, but how much is this in percentage? 3% solution?
Yes use the 3%
I make too much earwax and sometimes, fairly often for the past like 8 months I will wake up with clogged ears. I hear very bad out of them and if I do use a q-tip it will like break a barrier of buildup wax. I know I shouldn't put things in my ear but that's essentially the only way I can get it. I also clog up headphones super easy
i have the same problem, what did u do to stop it?
@@lotfichell6634 around every week or 2 I clean them out with hydrogen peroxide seems to stop the buildup
Tvidler
I’ve been doing the shower one for a wiggle bit to prevent me going pretty deaf again
I have also suffered from draining from ear
Firstly blood and then yellow pus
After taking antibiotics draining stoped but having hearing issues
Unable to listen clearly from my left ear
What to do
Can someone help?
They need to not advertise Q tips for cleaning ears in that case
I mean: It always says so in the "Warning" message in some Q-tips on "Don't use it in your ear canals"
Any tips?
this is a bit late, but try just swallowing.
Yesterday my audiologist would not do a hearing test because of ear wax buildup.
I had a lot of ear infections as a kid, my fiancé keeps telling me to clean my ears in shower water but I don’t know what to do
Just turn your head at an angle so the water enters directly into the ear canal, hold that position for a while
@@nomadicfenceman509 then what's supposed to happen?
The best way is to reach over the top of your head with the opposite hand and pull the ear upward. This straightens the ear canal, allowing the water to flow in and out more easily.
I got my issue after water got in my ears in the shower. I think if you have a small ear canal it’s not good due to moisture can’t escape ? It’s not for everyone if you read the individual comments. Some yes, some it becomes the reason they have a problem…
Robinson Gary Young Christopher Williams Richard
But what are the solutions for people having perforations then ? 😰
I’m away working, and my ear has been slightly deaf and ringing straight for the last 6 hours, I do wear ear plugs for work…
To note, if you are one of those people who suffers from earwax compaction (earwax builds up to such a degree that you lose hearing) then, yes, you are ok to and should clean out those ears. But only if you feel that compaction happening.
Xana what the fuck are you doing here, why aren't you on Lyoko
He thinks ear candling actually removes wax from your ear?
so last week i got my ear clogged up by water and got my hearing muffled for a day then suddenly i hear continous ringing on my ear. went to doctors and cleaned my ear doctor say theres ear wax and i need to use ear drops to soften the earwax but upon using the ear drops i keep getting my hearing muffled due to it does anyone know what to do or experience this thing as well
Have you tried going to an audiologist to get a wax removal?
already got the wax removed then go to some clinic to test my hearing, was glad to hear that my hearing is normal and doctor says that i have great hearing lol , doing fine now btw
Or if you swim a lot it helps get the wax out.
And also if you have to much wax you may loose hearing
Since I have tinnitus dosnt shower water damage my ears?
That's a good question! It may depend on what exactly may be causing the tinnitus. I have it, but don't really know what all can cause it in various circumstances. Whether it's an issue w the ear (damage over time) or in some cases a neurological disorder, etc.
If I recall, in typical cases it may have something more to do with the tiny hairs in the ear (the scillia??) behind the eardrum, or in the cochlea?
I should research this more lol. I do know leaving a fan running at night helps to make the ringing much more tolerable!
