My Grand-father and Grand-mother immigrated from China. Gong-gong was a tailor. He came to Canada to try his luck at Gum-San by working on Canadian Pacific Railway. So all my food memories were a mix of Toi-San Por-por's cooking and #2 uncle Dan's (chef training in Hong Kong). During WW1, Vancouver Chinese boys who can afford it, sent their kids to higher education. The honest truth is, the Chinese-Canadian were dispised and some poorer families' boys ended in Canadian Armed Forces. My mom (number 7 in the family) became an American-Army nurse. Dad met mom in Hong Kong at St Mary's Hospital after he was machine-gunned by the Imperial Japanese Army, and mom took care of dad.
Tip in Cuba: there is a sole Chinese restaurant in the living quarters district of old Havana, Tien Tan. Even in the off beaten path, there is a Chinese restaurant.
Growing up in Thunder Bay our go to restaurant was a Chinese food one. The restaurant owners were much loved by our city. As teens We frequented our Chinese restaurants . In fact We have an original recipe that is not cooked in any other restaurant. Every payday I would treat myself to this dish. Now Chinese food is still beloved by many in my city.
I LOVE Canadian Chinese food. It's fantastic. Chinese Chinese food is amazing too, but when I lived in Asia for a year, what I craved most was the Canadian Chinese. Curried taro cake? Egg Foo Young? Har Gow? YES PLEASE. Can't wait to see this show.
Ginger fried beef invented in Canada . JJ Wonton in Victoria got this dish right. When Haida Gwaii was still called Queens Charlotte , I went there. There you are , a Chinese restaurant there
I think she meant Golden Inn in Calgary, because Silver Inn is still kickin' it but Golden Inn got shutdown for good, even though it was an absolutely beloved spot by everyone (especially the late night after concerts). RIP Golden Inn regardless.
Sorry for my username, it is the internet, I want a funny username, it doesn’t mean I want to be edgy or anything. I felt like have you eaten yet could be elevated to a whole new meaning as lunar new years are approaching, when people eat food they get their calorie and nutrients and often makes them feel good. How are you on the other hand could be a 50/50. A lot of Canadians are going hungry this winter, I saw a report saying food bank usage in Ontario is up by 44%-70% I don’t remember the exact number. I don’t know how hard it is for some Chinese restaurant owner to make out time as I do know they work relentlessly trying to serve its communities who needs Chinese comfort foods all the time, if they could just donate a box or two of prefried sweet sour chicken ball to the food bank I think that will clearly make some children’s happy, because canned beans (I’m just assuming that’s what they serve in the food banks, I could be wrong)don’t taste that good.
Huh? Was this an outdated post? Today is November 30, 2022, and got posted to YT 2 days ago, per YT. Chinese New Year is until Jan. 22, 2023, Year of the Rabbit.

Food is honoured in China, the effort behind the agriculture, the preparation, and sustenance. Even Chinese Canadian food.

Could you name that restaurant in Calgary with the Ginger beef place
Silver Inn. They closed a few months ago. The owners wanted to retire and their kids weren't interested in taking up the business
