  • Today we are going to answer the question, how Vaccines work?
You probably have heard of the word ‘Vaccine’ before, but did you know what vaccines actually are and the reason why you get them?
Well you get a vaccine through a shot at the doctor and while nobody likes getting a shot it is important to get them.
The reason you want to protect yourself from these diseases is because they could make you very sick. So that small pinch you will be feeling when you get the shot is only a tiny fraction of how bad you would feel if you got a serious illness.
Shots protect you by giving you a tiny version of the germ that is dead or very weak. If you end up getting the whole germ it would give you a disease like chickenpox.
But giving only this tiny, weakened, or dead part of the germ it actually doesn’t give you the disease. Instead, just the opposite happens. Your body responds to the vaccine by making antibodies. These antibodies are part of your immune system, and they can fight the disease if you ever get it.
Shots are given by injection with a needle. A syringe holds the liquid vaccine, and the needle has a hole in it for the liquid to squirt through. Shots are usually given in your arm or sometimes your thigh.
Because most kids in the United States get all their shots, you rarely meet anyone who has had diseases like measles or mumps. Your mom or dad has probably had to show your school that you've had all your shots. Schools and camps do this because they don't want the kids spreading or catching serious illnesses.
So that answers the question how vaccines work! That took some thinking!
