Nighttime Aircraft Marshalling - Cathay Pacific Cargo 80 Arrival [B-LJB] Boeing 747-8F [11.08.2014]

- I am a cargo ramp agent at Chicago O'Hare International / Int'l Airport ( KORD / ORD ), and as such, I get to marshall a lot of aircraft as part of my daily duties.
Here I am marshalling a Cathay Pacific Cargo Boeing 747-867F freighter arriving from Anchorage as Cathay 80 Heavy, operated by aircraft tail number, B-LJB. Its trip began at home base at Hong Kong Chep Lap Kok International / Int'l Airport ( VHHH / HKG ), but all cargo aircraft heading to the U.S. or Mexico from Asia must make a fuel stop at Anchorage Ted Stevens International / Int'l Airport ( PANC / ANC ) in Alaska before proceeding to their destination(s) in North America.
Please feel free to ask me any questions and I will do me best to answer them.

@@leak4501 In the Navy the people we have people who are in charge of the launch and recovery evolutions on the beach called plane captains, its so beautiful launching the birds at night with the wands.
@@husseinsalloutah8738 he might be married who knows 🤷♂️😄

I've done this for so many years back at JFK NY. The first airplane I parked was Varig, 747. I couldn't believe how the pilot was listening to me each time the nose wheel turned to get on the center line. LOL. Years later I was on the other side, behind the controls being parked. (In a little Piper Warrior) :) at Stewart Airforce base.
@Madyhighend I would say mostly yes. You don't realize how big that bastard is till you stand in front of it, ground level, and it's coming at you. :) For a 23 year old kid parking it, it was a wow!!
@@plsniper that's why I couldn't be able to do the job, jst be mesmerised by the plane & size ect
@@TheTezz100 Yes you could. You'd do it a few times and you'd be an expert. No big deal.
@@plsniper thank you for positive attitude
Just thinking of classic car's been on your the road then the bigger gience
Congrats on the upgrade man!
I love how older videos have detailed contexts in video description, something most videos lack today ❤
it would have only been "I marshalled the beast"
This is awesome! I'm In Ramp Agent training now and we demonstrated marshalling a plane today.
What are you doing now, two years later?
Always great to see videos from a unique perspective. Just wondering when you are directing the aircraft, are you just watching the nose wheel on lines on the ground ?
Thanks for watching! And yes, I usually watch the nose wheel on the center line. If I see that the mains are off-center, I'll signal the flight crew for a slight turn to correct that. It's worst in heavy snow when you can only see bits and pieces of the gate centerline, and often the aircraft turn onto the gate too soon or too late because they themselves can't see the line.
A stunning view.
Very good job. Now if I can only get my crew to marshal that well. They seem to think that they only have to wave them in, and it's up to the pilot to make sure he's straight. At least you were directing him left or right when needed.
Thanks, I was taught well from day one, I guess, lol. My movements are a lot more fluid, but all that winter gear makes it a bit difficult to move comfrotably.
Where I work they make sure you marshall correctly or you will be given no wands lol
Hey, I would have 4 Questions:
How are the "sticks" called?
Why do you need to stay where you are when the plane is parked (2:02)?
What does the "gesture" at 2:57-2:59 mean?
Do the "gestures" have any special names?
I dont have a clue about marshalling as you see haha
At 2:02 he was telling the pilot to stop/cut the engines and the signal at 2:58 means the wheel chalks have been placed
@@TamponMuncher69 okay, thanks : )
the "sticks" are called "wands" and he is staying there with the "engage brakes" signal to make sure the plane doesn't move while the ground crew places the chocks and does what they have to do :)
@@wantdatcadpat44 Okay, thank you very much! : )
The gestures are called "marshalling signals" by the way!
This was a great video! I'm going to go back to work tomorrow and marshal in a plane like this!
why do you have to hold that cross position for so long?
Awesome plane action video, this is really some thing different. Keep on posting more like this one. Huge Super Like!!!
I'm jealous of you! I've always wanted to do this!!
+Liz Bonilla Thanks, lol. It's a lot of fun being somewhat in control of the plane for a couple of minutes.

@@ChicagoAirportSpotterit looks so much fun. But I don’t think I can do tha with a 747 that things is huge
I;m a 60 yo woman who has had the good fortune to travel all over the world, and IMO, the most exciting location on any trip I take is the tarmac of whatever airport I'm at. I missed my calling in life. I would love to have your job.
This is one of the most important jobs known in history and it’s called guiding the plane back to the ground
Your marshaling and work vids are great! This 748 head-on is impressive!
I've been watching Jose's videos for a long time and really have admired them all.
hiway51biker Hadn't heard from you in a long time, Brian! Glad to have you back, and thank you for watching!
PVDAviation Thank you for always watching my videos! It's great to have your continued support! The airport keeps me busy (4 jobs there right now), but I will try to bring more for you and everyone to see from my job(s).

Thanks, haha! I appreciate it
Impressive marshaling. I'm a new marshal, and i want to do my best I hope with practice to be at your level. Thank you
Look at that beautiful thing. And the man has the powerrrrr
How do the pilots communicate with you? Can you see their hand signals at night? Cockpits are pretty dark.
@Ebony Oslinhi! do you work as a marshel ? I'm interested to work there and I'm looking for information about it to do course ,will you help me ?
I retired doing this what I loved for 20 years. I miss it.
What do Marshalers do when there are no incoming or outgoing planes? Or should I assume that you're always busy?
gomphrena they help with aviation such as luggage etc..
The man that tamed the beast
Nice work. I'm a marshaller at UPS Worldport Louisville Ky (SDF). Unfortunately we are not allowed to take pictures or shoot video where I work.
Hi, just a question, why did you keep holind the lights crossed although the plane was a full stop? what does that mean?
It's a signal to the pilots that the ground crew is working on the plane, so keep your feet on the brakes: tire chocks are being placed, GPU is being hooked up, and the nose tether is being placed through the nose gear strut.
+joseg2143 Why do you hold the sticks on top of each other horizontally at the end? I am very curious.

+joseg2143 I think he meant the "Chocks are in" signal. +DefiniteLemon if they're crossed overhead: stop and hold, if they're crossed low: engage parking brake, if they're touching tips or layered horizontally: the chocks are in place. Hope that helps.
This video is amazing :) any chance for more marshalling videos in the future?
Thank you, I appreciate it! :) I'm not a ramp agent anymore...I MAY possibly have some more marshalling videos saved privately on my UA-cam account, just not yet published. I'll look around.
thank you for lightning fast reply. i'll keep an open eye on your account
Ohhh what man?? What happened to ramp?
I took a pay raise - I'm a ramp controller now, sitting upstairs in the tower all day...I miss the ramp every single day, though, especially when it's nice and sunny out, lol. I always go downstairs on my breaks to shoot the shit with the guys, maybe marshall a plane or 2 in and toss bags for a bit. If they paid me what I make in the tower to work the ramp, I'd still be out there.
No more marshalling so now you don't make money from youtube. Sad.
Very interesting to see.
Another fantastic video from an awesome perspective! Loved it!!
I wanna be a marshaller😍amazing
How much power do the tractors have? I’d guess 1000 hp. These planes must be extremely heavy
God bless you man. It's a hard job.
Nice work! You had him coming in Hot!
Affirmative!!! Well done !
Awesome video! Thank you for posting!
No brake signal straight for chocks on.. That works as well :)
What a huge aeroplane and I have never seen one guy can park an aeroplane
Hello Sir,
I've always wanted to do this job, what does it require to become a Marshall, plus what are their other responsibilities besides taxiing? :)
The airport I work at I am cleaner/ramp agent but most people would be a ramp agent and you would be responsible for loading/unloading bags as for Marshalling its just watching and getting trained on how to do it but more then likely that wouldn't happen for a few months get the basics down like wing walking then learn to marshl
"Good boy, here's your treat"
*chucks a suitcase*
Super marshaling mind blowing
Oh yeah im also jealous of you bro, In a good way! You’re a legend. Do i need to be a college graduate to be a ramp marshal?
Yo im going to be a ramp agent soon is marshalling a required job duty or do i have a choice in weather i do this or not?
+Bolbi , you get to do a bit of everything. In about a month or two, depending on your company, you'll end up having done a bit of EVERYTHING.
What handling company are you with, what station?
I'm a material handler at FedEx im usually the main marshaler for the MD10 and 767
Beautiful work
Best marshalling on here.
In the immortal words of Andy Samberg as Nic Cage on SNL, "that's high praise, man. High praise." Thank you!
Very good video and excellent work
This is educational. thankyou
cool video mate, nice to hear the engines winding down
Great work. Cool vid :D
Thank you!
joseg2143 I would love to do this job. I'm in an aviation academy at the moment doing L2 Ground Operations.
Was his first hand signal wrong why parking the plane ???
Good job .
I wanted to do all the job
Marshalling.maintenance.certify..
Very very very cool 😍
What size traffic wands do you use, 9inch or 13
Has to be the best job in the world bar flying them
Super 🌟❤️
Nice job
very nice.
why are u telling the aircraft to turn right when it need to turn left
i think way to deep, but what if you had an itch, pilot will be spinning round 😂
What does the bit at the end mean?
it was 'All clear' and before it, there was 'chokes in' signal..
The 'crossed wands' means 'STOP.' The signal directly after that means 'CHOCKS INSERTED.'
The marshaler must issue the signal according to the standard signal and do it clearly, properly, and appropriately so that the signal can be accurately transmitted to the chief. Marshalers generally work in places that are visible to passengers, visitors, etc. It gives a strong impression as an image of an airline. As a person engaged in the operation of an aircraft, it is important to note that the work must be prepared and done with reasonable operation. In other words, your job is just a look, not marshaling.
Damn, dude you did that shit perfectly cant wait to learn that at DHL.
Reminds me of my ps4 powering up
Awesome
That's i want to do later plus 🤩🤩
nice
Wow
Was it a 747-8F or a 747-400F
Rockington TheThird B-LJB is a B747-8F, it's in the video title and description 😉 Thanks for watching!
joseg2143 Theanks for the information 👍
*** NICE MARSHALLING ***
I want to be a Air Marshal
Bro I live in Chicago and I was wondering how I can get a job like yours
Depends whether you wanna work cargo or passenger, but for the pax airlines, go online. For cargo, I suggest you go to the warehouses by Mannheim/Irving Park. Go to either AGI or TAS (they are very similar, starting pay is just about the same) and fill out the application on paper. Or tou could also try swissport. They are also online. Let me know if I can be of any further help.
***** Sounds about right. In all honesty, you gotta be a bit crazy to do the work we do out here - all-weather, long hours, low starting pay, none or very few holidays off...
Cool
It's darth vaders lightsaber 😆
Give me your JOB. LOL....

Like your video man well made a mistake when i was marshalling dornier 328-100 of its arrival kinda didnt have much focus because i didnt have much sleep so instead correcting where the nose should be on the line so yeah it was so embarassing guess might download this video for learning purpose i guess
