I was also going to ask for Sports Bra recommendations. Chaffing on longer runs is the worst! Also, I'm so glad to get content directly from you! Please keep it coming!!
Yeah I totally forgot about sports bras 🤦 I have a few that I use, most of them are under Armour from a few years ago and some Nike ones that have been fine too. I don't have big boobs though so don't need anything massively supportive so any old thing has been fine for me..! Appreciate that doesn't help much though but if anyone else has sports bra recommendations then pop them in here!
I have had trouble with my bras chafing recently so i got a couple from Runderwear, so far so good. No chafing and so comfortable, would defo recommended.
Please keep making videos! You and your personality are a breath of fresh air in the running community. Particularly, I appreciate hearing from another woman, and hearing from someone laid back, humble, and down to earth. I appreciate the low-key, the chill, the sincerity. You're my cup of tea!
I had problems with shorts but found Sundried shorts worked really well. No matter the weather, hot and sunny or cold and wet or the distance, no chaffing or riding up!
Hi Sarah. Brilliant informative video. I also struggle to find shorts, but I have recently purchased the asics 2 in 1 - a bit baggy but very comfy and don't ride up 😃
FYI: For anyone that might have a Salomon pack with flasks that leak, they are made by Hydrapak and are replaceable under warranty. Both of my original flasks leaked and I received replacements which have a different type of bottom seam which appears to be stronger. Sarah I wear the Ronhill Infinity Marathon Twin shorts and they're super, no chafing or riding up. Love them. Side pockets and a zip pocket at the back. Also two gel slots!
Really would recommend moving away from 2 in 1 shorts to buy compression shorts and then normal shorts over them. You'll have a much better change of buying compression shorts that suit you and then the over shorts don't matter so much. I'd also recommend body glide anti chafe balm. Managed to go all summer without the compression shorts using this, I have quite chunky legs that always rub together and this stuff is like magic.
Great video and run through of all that quality kit. However, the highlight has to be the mat/blanket layout seen with the double thumbs and grin 'PING'. That's true editing genius right there, very nice...! This channel's got a great a long future Sarah, every video has been really well put together and delivered!
For nutrition I really have had good success with CARBO-PRO liquid. It is a tasteless powder that you can mix with water. One 16oz bottle is equivalent to something like a pound of pasta in terms of carbohydrates. One warning...If you use it while cycles it is difficult to remove it from your bike frame once it drys! But easy on the stomach and not sweet. I swear by it.
Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it. When I was in Canada I bought a Columbia coat and it's really lasted so was interested to be reminded of them for tshirts, I get so hot running. Short wise, I went for the DHB (I think 4'') to avoid chaffing. I love them, they are so light, with a nice mesh under and a zip pocket at the back and a small key pouch at the front.
RaidLight trail raider shorts are awesome, pockets are great, construction is great and they are comfortable and light. I wear x-bionic compression shorts under them for long runs. I’ve not tried the ones with integrated undershorts. Also, I find with those wide mouth water bottles (depending on your physique) That the caps end up digging into the chest. I’ve had to revert back to the flatter 500ml bottles due to comfort issues. Big problem with those small neck bottles is that I don’t think the designer takes into account most users will have sweaty hands / possible lack of dexterity in the fingers. Knurled or ridged caps would be much easier to open. I would, if looking into hydration vests seriously consider the placement of the front bottle holders and how easy the bottles are to get in (whilst wearing!) I’m on 5th vest now (3 salomon and 2 invo8) all have their merits but stuff like pole holding, secure pockets, front fastening system and ease of use are difficult and very user specific. Be interested in your take on it and your set up. Salomon 12 is what I’m using now. Love the little ‘bin’ pocket on the right. Simple things! Cheers Sarah!
Cool video. One suggestion on Ben's hats. My favorite running hat of all times was similar to the ones he sells -- but it had a zipper pouch on the front. It had a small pouch where you could put 2 gels in. I loved that hat in that if my shorts didn't have pockets, I could easily store a gel or two. It was a mesh design like the ones Ben sells. Something to think about. I haven't found a hat like that since.
I really like the Rab Talus Trail 2 in 1 shorts 4". They have the pockets, don't ride up, and look similar to the Aussie Grits... so sad they are no longer in business. Have you tried Anita sports bras? I like the extreme control and the air control deltapad. They encapsulate each of the girls so that they don't chafe together on long runs! Thanks for the Runderwear suggestions. I'll have to test them out
If you're struggling to find more shorts and haven't tried them, maybe try Ron Hill. I use their 2-in-1 shorts all the time. Can't say I've noticed them riding up at all.
Great vid Sarah, prefer the running/ training vlogs but know others find these helpful. I recommend Mountain Fuel jellies. I find them easier (and nicer) to take and they are light in the stomach! Keep up the good work!
haha no worries harry, just trying to do a bit of everything/whatever i fancy at the mo while i build the channel up! and yes i love mountain fuel jellies too! the cola one is so good!
Oh no, Aussie Grit is going? I just picked up some long sleeve tops from them at a good price - now explained. Such great quality. Enjoyed the vid...and the ladybird.
This was a really helpful video! I'd also love to see a version targeted at winter running, when the time comes. Love all your content. Very inspirational as a beginning runner!
Hi Sarah loved your thoughts about equipment, can you do a review of the Garmin 245 and which faces you use for running. Well done and post some of your training schedules as your pace is more like the average runner rather than Ben’s which is elite based.
I just got a pair of the Aussie Grit Flints about a month ago, how disappointing they’ve closed the shorts are excellent. The Sweaty Betty Challenge ones are my next favourite too. Great video :)
Hi Sarah, i wondered what you think about running with music. If you do ever run with music do you have it on your watch or do you take your phone? I find it much easier to run with music - even when running trail, maybe i should learn without. Many thanks
The pink hat and the original blue hat are pretty close to perfect running caps, I'll be buying them as long as you guys are selling them. Really impressed; light, comfortable, breathable, look great, and somehow they DO NOT smell!?
I find the same thing happens with my Sweaty Betty Leggings! So happy to see I am not the only one having to tighten up the waist sooo much! They definitely didn't do that when i first bought them...
Hello Sarah , I’ve been looking at the injinji toe socks you wear , it’s a mind field of styles n textures , can you narrow it down a little please to what you could recommend , plus do you buy from the company themselves or go to say amazon ? , does Ben also use the toe sock , something I’ve thought for a while about trying ?
I definitely think it’s useful having a female perspective both on gear and on training. Your races are going to be awesome to follow as it seems you choose some spectacular locations.
Great video. Thanks! Ugh I feel your pain with the 2 in 1 short search!! I tried soooo many! They're all so low waisted and I like a bit higher rise. I ended up loving the Nike Eclipse but the earlier version with the Nike Swoosh on the waist band not on the shorts, random but the first design fits me better. And I LOVE the Sundried Les Rouies although no phone pocket which is a bit rubbish! I can just abut squeeze my iPhone 12 mini in the back packet but its not the most easiest esp when running but no issues when wearing a hydration pack with pockets. But these are the only ones I have found that don't rise up and have a nice flat waistband x
Thanks for sharing the watch and trail runners. I focus mostly on steep trail Climbs while running so I'm always looking for new gear recommendations. Definitely following you for future videos!
Looking forward to your video about packing your pack as I've just invested in one (which I love) but feeling a little 'all the gear and no idea' at the moment. Haha.
Another great video! I'll check out some of the recommendations! I think you're definitely gaining confidence in front of the camera...I had to giggle when you held your underwear up to the camera! Lol
Sarah, can you please ask Ben to produce a larger cap for those of us who have heads with a circumference of greater than 58 cms? Finding a well vented running cap for my 61 cm cranium is awfully difficult. And even if I find one that goes around it then sits awkwardly atop like a skull cap. My head is not abnormally large but sports and outdoor kit manufacturers seem to think that it is. I will look forward to progress. 🙂

I have 6 pairs of the Pegasus Turbo 1s and ordered another from Nike, which unfortunately were lost in transit, so I'm waiting for a refund. I much prefer the upper of the original's to the Turbo 2s and like you, may be forced to get them eventually. My racing shoe is also the Vaporfly Next%, they are my magic shoes!
Great stuff Sarah! Also thanks for the tips on the recovery week - I'm busy with it this week and it feels nice to just take it easy a bit! Also on a long run or Half/Full marathon, at which intervals should I take gel?
ah it's such a personal thing but i'd normally say every 30-40 mins roughly, that's what i do anyway but try it and adjust to suit you, if you feel it's too much take less frequently and vice versa
Have a look at Lululemon (Vancouver brand, but have a shop in London) for running shorts. They're not cheap, but worth dropping coin on decent gear! (I don't work for Lululemon BTW!).
Thx for the video! Interesting that you prefer the upper of Turbo 1 but still race with the Next % because imho the upper of Turbo 2 and Next % are fairly similar. Also, do u recommend using headbands? I bought one recently but still haven’t tried it yet.
You and Ben inspire me a lot...I run a lot of marathon and some Ultra...I d like and I need put on service all stuff that I learned... How to became a running coach? Please some advice. hug
Started wearing my hydration pack today and found out why I stopped using it.... I sweat down my back in it - its not an expensive Kalenji.... but Sarah if you do an episode on Hydration Vests would be great (for carrying water etc and storage for clothes as I often carry extra clothing)
Getting a higher end Hydration pack they have Mesh/foam backing. Could Go all out and get a ARC'TERYX Norvan 7 Which has no flaws in my opinion and the best trail running hydration vest you can get.
With the tank tops & shorts, do you use spf lotion? I'm pale and have opted for upf shirts for walking much of the sunny weather last year. I've felt like my skin doesn't sweat as efficiently with some of the 'sunscreen ' (as we call it in the USA).
I've tried the Injinji socks, I found them tight on my toes and very uncomfortable. I use Balega socks now and have found them to be quite good, although I will be needing a few new pairs soon. Also there is now a UK brand called Harrier that make vests, and water bottles, you may want to check them out.
ah nice i used to use balega socks before i swapped over to the toe socks, super comfy but i just needed to separate my toes so they stopped rubbing against each other! ooh cool i will have a look at those vests, thanks!
Have you tried the 2xu shorts? I too like there long leggings in the winter, but discovered there shorts this year and I love them. Glad I’m not the only one that has to size up, most of my other shorts and leggings are a Nike medium, I have to but extra large in 2xu. Great videos btw. 😊
They aren't as lightweight as the 2s but that's what I like about them because they're so squishy and comfy! But other people prefer the 2s because they are thinner and lighter so it's v much down to personal preference for sure!
The turbo 2s are really fast but not as structurally robust. The sole is made of a polystyrene like material and it ripped of for me after 20 or so miles.
Since your bag is getting on a bit what new ones have you had your eyes on.. also when you do arc of attrition will you be recording your whole journey? Would be great to see what support you have along the way and also what food and equipment you take during each checkpoint.
i imagine i would probably just end up replacing it with the newer model of it, but it's still got plenty of life left in it so won't be getting rid of it just yet! and yeah i'm not sure on the arc, it would be good to document it but at the same time it's going to be the hardest race i've ever done so the added stress of filming may not be conducive to a good race but we'll see!!! can't wait for it!
@@SarahPlace Good stuff. We holiday in Cornwall and love nothing more than running those coastal paths that feature in the arc. It is no mean feat even on a short run haha, it really is a beautiful part of the country and I wish you the very best of luck with your preparations. Look forward to seeing more content 👍
Great video Sarah. I have a couple of questions about the Nike Next %. Firstly where do you buy these from and do you find that they run true to size or do you for example have go a size up from your normal running shoes? I vary between size 9 and 10 depending on the brand of shoe I'm wearing.
hey geoff, i thought you could still get them on the nike website as they released a new colourway fairly recently but can't see them on there.. so not sure about that one! i got mine in the nike shop last year. with regards to the sizing, i always take a 6.5 or 7 in running shoes and went for a 7 in those. hope you manage to find some!
Sorry funny i wear injinji soks all the time! Have you tried the Hüma gels i love the even beter than the Maurtens! And i run in the turbo 2 but will look for a food deal for the turbo 1 now!
Just purchased Garmin 945, are you having trouble importing 3rd party gpx route into Garmin connect? Wondering if this is part of the outage problem. I am clicking on downloaded gpx route, then clicking on open in Garmin connect and getting a oops something went wrong! Haven't had a Garmin since the 305! Getting so excited that it was so easy to use...🙄
hi jayne, yeah i couldn't put any new courses on my watch over the weekend while it was down but it seems to be working ok now. hope you get it working soon!
yes as far as i'm aware all the gels are, some of their other products aren't though (like the stroopwafels for example) so just double check the ingredients before buying!
no i haven't tried them but that would certainly be an option in the future, shame they are so expensive! i already have the shorts that go over the top of them which i have previously just worn with a pair of 2xu 5 inch compression shorts underneath and that has worked fine too but yes they have been in my basket for a while i just can't bring myself to buy them haha!
Saw you was wearing Vivobarefoot, any reason why you don't run in minimalist/Zero drop shoes ? I suppose you get a little bit more cushioning to eliminate potential injuries.
yeah i think they're a bit too "extreme" for running personally and don't want to risk getting injured especially when most of my miles are on tarmac, so i just wear them for walking around as an "everyday" kind of shoe instead and for that they are great!
@@SarahPlace I run the trails in them with the Trail FG as a replacement for salomon speedcrosses, they definetly take a bit of getting used to But the vascular legs which come with it are a plus along with better ankle stability. Solid video, lots of good info, really good kit in this.
Hey kris yeah i use the 945 for ultras, and because i usually have navigation on during the race it does drain the battery a lot so i just take the charging cable and a mini power pack to charge on the go. i also have battery life as a field on my main screen so i can keep an eye on it

For nutrition I really have had good success with CARBO-PRO liquid. It is a tasteless powder that you can mix with water. RaidLight trail raider shorts are awesome, pockets are great, construction is great and they are comfortable and light. I wear x-bionic compression shorts under them for long runs. Have you tried the 2xu shorts? I too like there long leggings in the winter, but discovered there shorts this year and I love them. Glad I’m not the only one that has to size up, most of my other shorts and leggings are a Nike medium, I have to but extra large in 2xu. Great videos btw. 😊
yeah i don't know why their sizing is so weird!
Ohhh...I heard most people complain about the upper of the Turbo 1. Apparently they are scruffy especially the strip.
They aren't as lightweight as the 2s but that's what I like about them because they're so squishy and comfy! But other people prefer the 2s because they are thinner and lighter so it's v much down to personal preference for sure!
Think I’m going to have to get one of those hats 👍🏻😊
The turbo 2s are really fast but not as structurally robust. The sole is made of a polystyrene like material and it ripped of for me after 20 or so miles.
ahh interesting! good to know, thanks ethan!
Nice video, may use the discount for a new cap!👌
The hat really looks like a Ciele hat. Also those UTMB tshirt are really nice and confi but boi do they smell like hell after a run
For shoes Im into Brooks for running in the city and for trail I use SaLomon.
Great vid! You’re cool
Mountain Fuel gels are great and you don’t need to take water with them
yes love those too, cola flavour is sooo good
Sorry funny i wear injinji soks all the time! Have you tried the Hüma gels i love the even beter than the Maurtens! And i run in the turbo 2 but will look for a food deal for the turbo 1 now!
yes i do like huma too! used those on a few long runs before and they taste great!
Hi Sarah! Hope you’re doing well, quick question about the pack, how do you know the right size to buy?
‘Oooo a ladybird!’ 🐞 😂👍🏼
Amazing channel / video! Can i ask, are all GU gels vegan or just select ones? I want to try them as i up my distances :) thanks in advance.
yes as far as i'm aware all the gels are, some of their other products aren't though (like the stroopwafels for example) so just double check the ingredients before buying!
@@SarahPlace thank you! Ultras are just mobile picnics, right?! 😆🤔
Hi Sarah.
I know that they come in at a bit of a price, but have you tried the Salomon S/Lab Modular shorts to "replace" the Aussie shorts
no i haven't tried them but that would certainly be an option in the future, shame they are so expensive! i already have the shorts that go over the top of them which i have previously just worn with a pair of 2xu 5 inch compression shorts underneath and that has worked fine too but yes they have been in my basket for a while i just can't bring myself to buy them haha!
😬 lol
Keep it up with these great videos!
I remember you mentioning the Aussie Grit shorts and I was going to buy them, now they’re not selling anything on their site and I’m so sad 😭😭😭
yeah i know, i went to grab the link to put them in the description and they're gone :( gutted!!
@@SarahPlace Found a store that still has some ;) www.trekhireuk.com/shop/aussiegrit-flint-womens-running-short/
Hi Sarah! Do you buy your running shoes a bit bigger or true size?
Gps watchfor beginners?
That sad music edit at 7:09 😭
Haha! Toilet invader! Cracked me up. Came for the running watch but interested watching the whole thing. Think I want a Ben Parkes hat now!
haha yeah bit of a surprise when it came to editing! ahh that's great, love the hats so much!
Do you use that particular garmin for ultras? I’m thinking in terms of its battery life over say a 24 hour run
Hey kris yeah i use the 945 for ultras, and because i usually have navigation on during the race it does drain the battery a lot so i just take the charging cable and a mini power pack to charge on the go. i also have battery life as a field on my main screen so i can keep an eye on it
Sarah Place great idea on the charging mid-run.
Thanks Sarah 👍
How come you help Ben with his videos but he is absent filming yours?
because i get SO embarrassed filming that i have to do it all myself haha! but that'll change soon i'm sure :)
What about your camera equipment?
hey richard, this was all filmed using the dji osmo action
