I think this is one of their best songs. Very catchy and also emotional, very deep. Used to not be really into this stuff, my girlfriend would play it all the time in my car and I would be reluctant, now I get these songs stuck in head.
I grew up listening to Country as a child, then it was Rap, then Metal, Punk and back to Metal. Now, I listen to everything and holy crap, I love these girls. Always a joy going from something like Opeth to Tegan & Sara. Oh, and thanks to Tegan for helping me find Astronautalis, he is fantastic.
When I first heard this song It kind of made me think of The Cure. It almost feels like one of their songs just by the instrumentation. I love Robert Smith so to me, it's like a win-win.
This is a gateway song. Sort of how I was shown Don't Blink to introduce me to Doctor Who. If I were asked to "play me some Tegan and Sara", I would probably play them this song.
(preface - I know nothing about vocals or music) ...it seems to me her natural register is this low? it's where she's always sounded most comfortable and doesn't have to strain. the pop sensibility of Hearthrob was more geared towards that soaring, higher-pitched female vocal that is trendy at the moment. she absolutely nailed older tracks like The Con live on tour, especially last year. some of the performances were breathtaking and full of emotion, and she had complete control over her tone and pitch. I notice everything she excels in live is in a much lower key and that wasn't shown in the writing on the last album.
I disagree. Just about any performance I have seen done recently of older songs has not been at the same level as they used to. It is the WAY she is singing that has changed. I saw some interview with them where she said they actually made an effort to change the way she sang to sound more "pop". I much preferred her older, singer/songwriter way of singing from the Con era. No future song they release would have the same sound as Call It Off ever again because she does not sing that way anymore... and it's depressing.
Funny thing is, thanks to the backing guitar and the overall style, it really sounds like something Robert Smith of the Cure would play. I wonder if that was intentional. My 2nd fav song from the album.
I love this one too. They know how to write songs that complement each other and give them their definite style and sound. I like that they did things a little different on this CD. I like all kinds of songwriting and I think they are great writers. I kind of wish more people knew about them and a ton of their fans do which is great and I'm happy about that for sure. Love T&S. :)
i love her voice. Tegan...oh god. she makes my knees shake and heart ache at the same time. but Sara...shes amazingly beautiful. UGH!! im so torn between them. i
@GurlKarma02 I heard in 2012, they are taking time off now to write and relax but should hopefully start recording in a few months. So we have to keep waiting :(
1:00-1:12 the contrast between their voices is just stupidly beautiful.

they are masters of timing and harmony. so precise vocally. great. guess that's what you get when you have talented twins.
This song is SO good. Perfect in its subtleties.

Why can't Tegan sing like this live anymore? It boggles my mind.

@Corolido & yet, some people still get them mixed up. It's pretty sad, lol.
0:48 - 0:52 That michrophone better be very happy right now!!!!!!!!!
After you become obsessed with Tegan & Sara, you can easily spot who is who, & their differences are obvious.
sounds a bit like Just Like Heaven the intro at least
Sara's part MAKES this song. :3
@clovisfoxterrier It definitely does live.
I remember the days I couln't tell them apart...
Yes, Sara wants to and Tegan doesn't. Have you seen their interview with Liz Feldman from a couple of years ago? They talked about it with her.
this song reminds alot of: Monaco's "what do you want from me"
So, they called the song "The Cure" and made it sound like a Cure sure intentionally right?
@AllThatsLost man... agreed
Itès the cure and the cure is good.
Their noses are so cute...
i really like tegan s hair here..
And wow. Tegan's beautiful. (They both are, but you get what I'm sayin)
Tegans Solo Kills Me XP
Sara's hair looks fine... :P
can someone tell me what the bass to this song is please
Thumbs up if you gave a thumbs up to wanting to marry Tegan AND wanting to marry Sara because you just couldn't choose one.
are the boys wearing matching outfits?
Sara is beautiful *____*
