Ever see those guitar players on UA-cam who sound almost like a one-man-band, playing both chords and lead lines, mixing them seamlessly, and improvising it all? You can do it. You just need a little something. Sure basic chords can work okay for this. But they’re often too bulky to throw into a solo or quickly connect to licks. But if you use these minor triad voicings you can move them quickly, and connect them to the scales… easily!

Ihave watched several teachers for several years. You are by far light-years ahead of any one else. So many lightbulb moments. THANK YOU, FOR ALL YOU DO FOR ALL OF US!!!!!
Thank you very much! Really appreciate your support!
Your teaching method just makes me want to have a shot what you’re saying. Thanks for making the additional required willpower seem like a natural progression.
Glad to hear it thank you! Getting good at triads is worth the effort!

Thank you! Two great compliments in one comment😃
I like the tone you're getting out of that Telecaster. Very Colin James "Why'd You Lie" vibes.
Nice lesson, too.
Thanks! I'll have a listen to that song :)
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful weekend also happy father's day ❤😊
Thank you! You too!
First to say .. this is a First !
i dont think i've ever seen a 'Standing' Lesson.
i think this a ground Breaking vid
Hahah, yeah how about that eh? I think I'm going to do more like this just because otherwise I'm sitting all day anyway :)
@@GuitarLessonsVancouver i would welcome that. i'm learning from YT and dont know any guitarist. so i'm never standing...Meanwhile All the singer and bands perform standing😆 .. so thank you bridging this gap
Great lesson! I think the loose terminology in the guitar world around “triads” is a bit confusing for learners. Why do we call the 4-pitch root position A-minor shape a “triad” but not the full 6-pitch bar chord shape? Technically both are triads because they contain only 3 notes.
That's a good point. Technically we should only call a three-string chord with a R 3 5 a triad. And often guitarists will have a four-string chord and call it a triad, I certainly do sometimes. But ... it's rock and roll I guess 😂
@@GuitarLessonsVancouver Well my music theory textbook would disagree and say any chord with any number of R 3 5 notes in any order is technically a triad. But in my experience when guitarists say triads they mean moveable triad chord shapes involving the top 3-4 strings. Guitarists also call vibrato bars “tremolo bars”, so yeah, rock n’ roll 😂
At 6:53 and 7:32 your minor pentatonic shape has an extra note on the 2nd string (due to the barre I'm guessing). Other than that - great lesson.
Oops you're right. That was a mistake. Oh well. That note still works in the key :)
i feel like im trapped in "triad hell" where every guitar lesson pretends its some magic secret when its literally a dumbed down chord
Was Mark Knopfler a "dumbed down" guitar player? He sure used triads a lot. Sounds like you're not really putting the time in to try them out for yourself and get good at them. I never met a guitar player who was good at triads who said, "I don't like triads."
Doesn't explain why he always wore the head band.......
@@Steve-dk7ec True, that part I can't explain 🤣
I think you hit the nail on the head. Triads are exactly that, a dumbed down chord. The simplest version. Making them more versatile and useful than "full" chords in many applications. Plus, learning triads helps with learning the fretboard and finding notes (and combinations of notes) anywhere on the neck.
@@Steve-dk7ec moving color TVs is hard work, and sweaty. Not to mention refrigerators...
