    Every day I'm more convinced that a big part of Knopfler's sound is in his right hand... Anyways, great tones!

      It is, besides the overall tone, he often does little muted rhythmic notes, which is a big part of his 'signature' sound imo and near impossible to replicate with a pick. This guy does it very well, 2:25 is a great example :)

    Great tones and playing!
    With that amount of custom shop guitars and amps, one could surely buy a car 😅
    Would be great to see same video with small amps and affordable guitars (squier, epi), I suspect they would sound very good too, given the guitar player

    Nice playing once again. I love the series. After that one, I admire the guitar player in my dad‘s band even more. He nails all MK tones with one Guitar, one Amp and a late 80s multi effect.

    Missed the MK1! That one has a distinct tone. But the standard would be close to his first black suhr!

    What really impresses me is that you nail the idiosyncratic shit that each of these players do. You intentionally let yourself clunk on notes with Jimmy Page, and with Mark, you nailed that weird bumblebee vibrato he does.

    It’s a shame you aren’t a schecter dealer as he played schecter strats more than he played fender basically because of feel and I believe the fact the schecter strats had one tone and one volume…..anorak info there is on UA-cam somewhere a guy who actually bought marks sunburst schecter with brass pick guard from an auction house and it’s a gorgeous guitar.

    • @lapelcelery42
      @lapelcelery42 3 роки тому +1

      He only really played Schecter Strats through the 80s. The first two Straits albums and almost all of his Strat use in his solo career has been Fenders. Plus, his preferred Schecters more often than not didn't use Schecter pickups, and the Schecter company now doesn't make anything with specs particularly close to Mark's original Dream Machines - even the recent reissues they've made which capitalise on the idea of those originals have different pickups and dimensions. Short of getting an original Schecter Dream Machine, the Fenders are probably about the best example. He did go on to use his Schecter Tele a little more often, but the same limitations still apply.

    Mark mostly used maple fretboard strats.

    • @darrenc8776
      @darrenc8776 5 років тому

      When? All the videos and interviews with Mark I've seen hes using his 60d strat

    • @bobbybowers356
      @bobbybowers356 5 років тому

      Darren C In the early years of Dire Straits he played maple necks a lot. I saw them a couple times in the late 70’s and he played maple fretboard strats and Music Man amps.

    • @darrenc8776
      @darrenc8776 5 років тому +1

      @@bobbybowers356 yeah sorry mate your right. For some reason I was sure he'd used his 60s fiesta red strat for years. I was thinking the one he used at live aid was the same guitar but it had a maple neck.

    • @lapelcelery42
      @lapelcelery42 3 роки тому

      He had two Fenders in the early years of Dire Straits, one maple, one rosewood. He got rid of the maple a few years later after being advised by a luthier that it was a copy. Hard to say which of the two were the most used, because he swapped around a lot, and even swapped the pickups between the two depending on his mood. He tended to use the maple one during the short period where their video clips were recorded, but that doesn't mean it had more use overall - the rosewood was the first he got, and in his Guitar Stories episode he seems to suggest it was that one which he wrote Sultans on. This is the one he still uses. In the 80's he used Schecters, not Fender, which (apart from one rosewood) did have birdseye maple necks (this is what he plays at Live Aid), but they are technically not Strats, they're Schecter Dream Machines.

  • @phenixreturns
    @phenixreturns 2 роки тому

    Not so good !
    Fender ok but he did no play like that
    Telecaster : not the good way to play the song called 2 young lovers: bad technique and playing
    Brother in arms : there are tons of better songs at full volume
    the end : you have not EMG SA SA 85+Emg boost and more with
    so it's quite dramatic ! just some tones !!

  • @bobbybowers356
    @bobbybowers356 5 років тому +1

    Good playing, but most of the tones, if trying to duplicate Marks tone, you aren’t very close, except Money For Nothing. In the early days of Dire Straits, Mark mostly used Music Man amps. Dr Z is not even close to that sound, in fact they didn’t exist then.

    • @PeachGuitars
      @PeachGuitars  5 років тому +3

      We used the Z28 because it’s based on the Brownface Fender sound, and Sultans of Swing was recorded using a Brownface Vibrolux.
      Dr Z amps are great and we’re really big fans of them. Definitely worth checking out!
