At first I was *REALLY* upset this wasnt the crossover game they teased. But after getting heroes, im more content in trying it out! Also, pegasus knights on flying motorcycles is my favorite translation in this game
A crossover would be set in the Persona world, but it uses Fire Emblem turn based strategy gameplay, so it plays like a Fire Emblem, but the "my base" mechanics plays like Persona 5 for leveling your characters, getting ready for the next mission, and all of that. I think that is how you do a proper crossover of the two series. The second game was supposed to be Persona right?
The guy that made SMT Devil Survivor and Devil Survivor 2 is responsible for this. And you can really tell he is if You played Devil Survivor 2. He also had made Idol Video Games for Atlus and its really apparent that's his True passion. He was definitely the wrong guy to put in charge of this project, and it was really his first time handling a console release if I remember right. He was basically given Free Reign to do whatever he wanted. I'm split on the game, I own the collectors edition, I've never beaten it, never watched anyone beat it. The gameplay is great, and certain sections of the story are great, the music is great. But like the video said it ultimately just fails as a crossover and that's just the thing you can't look past. When they first announced this crossover I imagined it would have a bit of a darker story. ultimately though... this has me a bit worried for the future because it seems like this anime like nature is what Nintendo itself wants for Fire emblem considering what fates was like and now that the main plot of Fire Emblem the Three houses has you as a School teacher.
@@chaosdirge4906 they probably put him in charge because FE and Devil Survivor are both strategy games so they thought he would've had the best skillset for this project but then he botched it lol

Fun fact, the director of TMS was also the director of SMT Devil Survivor and like TMS it also had an idol subplot. He also had the same reasoning for including them in both games, because songs can be sort of similar to demon summoning.
Dant Pointy I doubt they’d ditch that tbh. There’s a mobile game Square Enix has that’s VERY similar to TMS called Project Tokyo Dolls that executes the battle idol concept a bit better (also Ellie shares a VA with one of the characters in that game).
TMS feels like it will fare better as a new IP. It FELT like one. Can't shrug off the feeling that the madmen of ATLUS simply thought "Hey, idols are popular. Let's make a Persona game about it without our usual Persona monsters!". 2014 - 2016 is the era where fictional idol is super intense. Wait, in a way the based-on-FE-characters-mirages seem to be the symbolization of idols. They are who we seem to admire, but up close... no... No way... Also I think their efforts to make Itsuki the fusion of silent Persona protagonists and Fire Emblem lords that is full of personality and can make their decisions on their own makes him more like... idol game protagonists. Supportive, the backdoor man, the one that keeps the crew together. In the end, it's more like they take inspiration from Idolm@ster Producer characters. Fitting considering Itsuki becomes the manager or some sort, equivalent to Idolm@ster producers. Still, 1-shot compact idol stuff like TMS is very refreshing. Most idol franchises especially at the time is more concerned about the longevity and the potential of milking them in the long term than, well, making 1 compact product. Just a side note, are you sure you're not delving into the wrong idol franchise for this video? For video games Idolm@ster is the far more culturally relevant one. Let's say, in a hypothetical reality where I ,today, was told to make a crossover between SMT and FE, first I would change SMT to persona. I know Persona and SMT are like 1 in the same but Persona is more popular and has pretty much become it's own thing at this point. I woild start with how to divide the gameplay, for 1 I would have it be persona social links and real world shit, and the shadow fighting side would be FE gameplay. That way Fire Emblem and Persona would get about equal representation. In the real world you'd build social links, or as I would call them, support links. Characters would mostly interact and talk about stuff like their ideals and world views like in FE, but have them also do stuff along side it. The more supports you do the more powerful the different fe characters would be. On the FE side of things the gameplay would be tactical, but not grid ore turned based. It would be a party of FE users going through different maps to complete an objective with battles working like persona. That's just my idea, I had another one where it was persona gameplay with FE characters as the protagonists but it w as to big and I didn't want to type for 6 hours straight.
If you ignore the fact this is supposed to be a crossover and you aren't bothered by the idol stuff, it's actually a very enjoyable game. The combat is fun (similar to Persona 5) and the story is just dumb fun. Of course, the game failed because of everything revolving around its marketing.
5:22 If you think of it more in line to a mediocre PreCure season, that is. One in which the Phlebotinum isn't particularly well explained or oddly specific (like Kirakira in which the whole show revolves around some weird energy that comes from baked sweets or something like that).
The thing is, it's actually not a bad game. The base game play is actually a pretty ingenious way of incorporating FE's weapon triangle into larger Megaten combat system and story is kinda quirky and charming in an "it's anime, just go with it" sort of way. It's just very obvious they set to do a crossover with any kind of idea how it would even work and almost had to mash something together out of desperation.
BIG INFORMATION DUMP COMING THROUGH! One thing I noticed was the detail of your surroundings. The posters and billboards around Tokyo change as you get more things done, and the vending machine in Fortuna even changes when you complete a particular side story. Fun fact: Maiko was supposed to be playable in early development. Her mirage would have been Olivia! Also cameos in the shops. Ilyana is the cafe maid, Aimee runs Carabia Jewelry, and Cath runs Anzu Costume Shop. I think Crepe Dia has one too but it’s hard to see exactly who. Oh and it was originally going to be FE x Pokémon but was scrapped because Pokémon Conquest made the decision redundant. On top of that, Mamori is actually a reference to Haruka Fukuhara who hosted a similar kids cooking show irl. Haruka ironically also done a 10 second UA-cam CM for FEH ironically so it might be safe to suspect she has a fan or two among IntSys. This CM has since been privated by Nintendo JPN, but came around around the time the CYL2 units were announced. Also Yashiro has the JPN seiyuu of Shigure and Robin (there’s some inspiration for you thirsters), while Ellie shares hers with Julia and Minerva via Heroes. ... I am in too deep
I was super hyped when they teased a shin megami tensei fire emblem crossover and super confused when they showed this game. I LOVE Shin Megami Tensei and had recently been getting into Fire emblem so it would have been perfect for me, but then the idol anime stuff showed up and I realized it had nothing to do with either one.
if it wasn't teased like a fire emblem crossover with smt then it wouldn't have gotten much hate and might've sold more. also touma best boi and eleonora best girl...
6:05 To me, have my expectations grounded with that game in mind means grounded to a cave. Seriously, for all the flak that recent FE stories get, they still look like masterpieces compared to this.
Yeah, this game got mad hate and was slept on because it wasn't how folks envisioned it(well that and censorship) but I really didn't care. I had fun, that's what matters when playing games. Tokyo Mirage Sessions was like having a bit of Japanese culture in my American console. Since the Switch seems to thrive on RPG games, then a port or sequel of TMS would work well on it.
I honestly think this game would've been a lot better if it wasn't a crossover. Think about it for a second, an Idols theme can work perfectly with SMT in general. FE doesn't work with Idols. It doesn't work with anything in this game. Take out the Fire Emblem part and it would work. It works as an SMT game but not as a crossover. There is a reason TMS #FE is the called the Fire Emblem game no one talks about. Edit: I just realized TMS is SMT backwards..

I really want to see another #FE game, that learns some lessons from the first game. But, it flopped so hard that I really doubt it'll happen.
I’ve been thinking of getting this game. Should I?
Part 2 ! let got!
I would like a video compilation of all the times you lose it
If you ignore the fact this is supposed to be a crossover and you aren't bothered by the idol stuff, it's actually a very enjoyable game.
I like Kyle's Donnel cosplay
TMS 2 should crossover with Love Live.
Give me SMT-fied Maki as a pegasus knight.
Still waiting for that Love Live/Heroes crossover
MaxHP I mean Persona had their collab with BanDori so why not
I want them to remake this game but take your notes.
Lol sorry Max. The idol trash struck again.
Barry is objectively the best character
Cuz he actually acts like a stereotypical Idol fan
Soleil the Dandy Swordswoman nice pfp
I was super hyped when they teased a shin megami tensei fire emblem crossover and super confused when they showed this game. I LOVE Shin Megami Tensei and had recently been getting into Fire emblem so it would have been perfect for me, but then the idol anime stuff showed up and I realized it had nothing to do with either one.
The best thing about the game were the perfomances. I just love the Opera of Light to death. Also Reincarnation rocks.
I don't have many issues with this game, if you like it thats fine. But gods, Chrom my boy. What did they do to you???
Good review
if it wasn't teased like a fire emblem crossover with smt then it wouldn't have gotten much hate and might've sold more.
also touma best boi and eleonora best girl...
I want it to be Ported to switch so I can try it
TMS Switch dub when the hell are you?
I would have given this game a chance...if it would´ve been on a decent consol.
Hope it gets an switch port and an enhanced version like P3P/P4G
Still want a sequel. Almost Any series can be fixed with enough effort.
Cybernetic_fighter_Z_The_Hell_Kaiser_Of_Long_Names Yes but not trash which game is 🗑
I actually want to play this game like my fellow ally pinkie over there
Need a switch port.
5/10 no footage of you dancing and you didn't use naz's recorder cover
6:05 To me, have my expectations grounded with that game in mind means grounded to a cave.
Seriously, for all the flak that recent FE stories get, they still look like masterpieces compared to this.
Obviously, best girl is Touma.
I haven't played TMS, but red hair anime boys are very good
Tsubasa is the main character in the game. Itsuki is the self-insert.
TMS IS MY FUCKIN JAM
Bad video -1/10
Why? Because you said tsubasa is best girl when its obviously Yashiro
Man I forgot to finish this game need to take the Wii U out of the box and play this game again
Finally some good fucking food
all FE lords are 1 note, dunno how this is even a surprise.
This ain't it chief
@@Ethan-nl2wg and you can keep in lala land pretending that Marth and the rest of the scrub lords have any depth
@@HTakara82 What about Hector though
@@JustAnotherUser578 I'm a big tough man, I can't cry, hur hur hur, look how manly I am, hur hur hur.
I mean, when you say it that way, every character can be bastardized easily.
Tbh I find Barry pretty hot.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE got better in game combat than Personna 5 There I said it ... It just MUCH better more interactive and more tactical.
No Max, you're wrong something something TMS is amazing or whatever Kyle told us to say
Well I must have lived in a box to not recognize Beyond Fates was you! Gave some concubine context that IS didn't really bother to give us more of for their favorite alt machine haha
His talent is directing and managing other talent- which is, admittedly, a stretch. We know that directing is a difficult job that requires skill, but with *Him*, he just kinda just.... repeats the same “Your doing this for good reasons! You’re amazing!” lines. Literally just trade him out for someone with a slight desire to improve.
Edit: Spelling
Please! Nintendo, re-release it for Switch!!! I want to play it!!!!
Mirage is not persona nor JoJo stands since it doesn't represent them or there subconscious
In fact it more like Japanese shamanism so it's more like the manga/anime shaman king
Sorry I love Tokyo Mirage sessions that I'm willing to fight and defend those who compare it to persona or jojo
shaman king ripped off stands though... jojo's stands came out way back in the 70s shaman king came out when I was a child.
@@chaosdirge4906 that's somewhat true but stands and shaman beings are two different (but also similar) things
Also JoJo came first media wise but shamanism came before anime
It's also where the source of power come from
JoJo= Extended from themselves
ShamanK. = Extended by other spirits
Tsubasa would of been a better Lord with Lucina as her mirage!
SWITCH PORT CONFIRMED!
*Bad* crossover?
How about *Weird* and *Really bad* Crossover?
Also Performa (WOW Original.)
But I liked the mirages(Robot Chrom is weird.)
