I've just started The Way of Edan and I've been enjoying it so far. I wasn't expecting the level of savagery and intrigue in just the first 50 pages but I'm here for it and very excited for the rest of the story!
Thanks so much for putting "Doompoint" in the video, Mike! I really appreciate it! You're the first person to ever compliment my handwriting, and my wife will have a good laugh at that.
i watched a wonderful interview with R.A. Salvatore, went to sleep, woke up and here's Mike up to new shenanigans again! the man who never sleeps! well done, Mike!
Just wanna say I appreciate your channel man, I watched videos for a long time before I ever subscribed but then I saw your opinion video on Name of the Wind and I instantly subscribed. I think of your channel as a mighty ship in the cultural sea that is literary appreciation.
I'm happy to have found your channel! Your content seems to be right up my alley and boy would I love a library like that. I'm an aspiring author with a self-published book out its sequels in the works. Obviously the odds are stacked against me and it's close to impossible that I reach my goal, but I will keep at it. Even so, one day I'd enjoy sitting back on a hammock and falling into a story the same way I did when I was a kid. This video makes me want it all the more. Thanks and God bless!
For you and your son I highly recommend the Septimus Heap Series by Angie Sage! The first book was a little slow as it is almost completely series set-up but the rest of the books are excellent!
Nicholas Flamel was right up there with Harry Potter and Percy Jackson as my favorite series growing up. From what I know about you guys you will definitely like it! Can’t recommend enough
Due to BookDepository sadly closing, I bought a final haul of books I knew I would read sometime in the future: Classics such as “Tortilla Flat” by Steinbeck, history books such as “The Restless Republic: Britain without a Crown” (during Oliver Cromwell’s Commonwealth in the 17th Century), mythological retellings such as Kat Parker’s “The Silence of the Girls” (the Trojan War from the Women of Troy’s perspective) and fantasy books such as KJ Parker’s “The Siege Trilogy”.
@@Yesica1993 Sadly that is the case: Amazon bought it many years ago and are now pulling the plug. But if you want to place some final orders, they can be placed within the coming two weeks!
I tried to purchase a big order, it never arrived and they just cancelled it didn't even want to resend it. Missed the old book depository where the customer service was top tier.
I started reading Anne McCaffrey’s Pern books when I was a teen and grew up with them. To me she is the queen of fantasy (I haven’t read Ms. Hobb). She’s also great at Sci-fi. Her “Ship” series is fab.
I'd like to throw The Spook's Apprentice book series by Joseph Delaney into the hat as a reading choice for your son. My youngest son loved it. I read a couple of the books also and keep meaning to pick it up again.
The Epilogue in Season of Storms makes the book worth it. Gives you a good send off for closing out The Witcher universe as a whole and leaves a ton for your imagination.
Most exciting thing I got this month is a 1977 first edition The Silmarillion at a local used bookstore. It is missing the dust jacket, but I couldn't pass it up as it was a steal. I don't think they knew what they had on their hands.
Decent haul there Mike. I wasn’t too struck on the scythe series. There wasn’t anything bad about it, it just didn’t captivate me so DNF’d book 1 at about 60% mark. I hope it works for you
I'm in the minority, but I thought Season of Storms was great. It felt like a return to form that I enjoyed so much from the two short story collections.
Season of Storms is the most fun Witcher book! Don't let those people get you down. It doesn't even make sense to say "if you miss the characters you can read it" because most characters of the series aren't in it. It's mostly about Geralt, and it's a glorious return to the kind of adventures he had in the short stories. You could say it's inversely related to the series, people who are big fans of that may think less of Season of Storms, but people who felt the series didn't deliver on the hype will find this book much more to their liking.
Awesome you have book 4 of Saga of Forgotten Warrior already! I read the first three on Madison's recommendation and I think they will be right in your wheelhouse.
I really enjoyed Season of Storms! You should read it before Lady of the Lake, it is a prequel before the Blood of Elves time line. Mike you should look into doing a talk about nothing with the podcasts, Friends Talking Fantasy & the Fantalogy. Their discussions are a treasure trove and I think all your subs would love them too! I discovered them by watching a First Law discussion with the Brothers Gywnne.
I had the same problem with the orbit The Witcher hardbacks, I had to snap them up, The Blood of Elves already couldn't be ordered by my Barnes and Noble in the area, got it ordered from half price books and completed my collection.
I think I’m going to check out that reading lamp. I read at night and poor lighting is the main reason I do so much reading on the Kindle. Any suggestions for reading lights that can be used in bed? I’ve got a cheap Amazon one that clips onto your book that does the job but it’s not great with smaller books or paper backs. Cheers, Mike!
I started reading Alex Verus as my Dresden replacement and I really struggled through it. No shade to Benedict Jacks nut it’s been very hard to get in to after reading 18 Dresden Files.
I just finished Ghost Story and am already looking for what can replace Dresden when I finish. I was leaning towards Alex Versa, now you’ve got me thinking twice ….
I had a coworker ask to borrow a book once and I said absolutely. But one request, don’t dog ear the page if you can help it….she gave me a look, borrowed the book, and never asked for another one 😂 I can’t help it. Like you said, everything is a bookmark. Junk mail is no longer junk mail if you need to save a spot lol
A lot of the best YA fantasy is the creepy stuff like Cirque Du Freak, Odd Thomas, The Demonata, Wardstone Chronicles, Lockwood and Co, Anna Dressed in Blood, etc.
Finished the second book priest of lies yesterday. 1st book priest of bobes was better then the second They are fun reads but in book 1 and book 2 the endings feel so rushed for me. The middel parts felt great and well written but then we come to the finale chapters and he realises he has so much ground to cover
I think editors are needed, for sure. I don't think publishers making an author change the heart and soul of their story for a formula checklist is needed.
Hey Bookworms! If you're interested in the BenQ e-Reading Lamp, you can purchase that right here: rb.gy/6fatt
Lovely to see The Way of Edan here, Mike! The signed (and hopefully undamaged) copy should be reaching you soon, if it's not already there!

Woo the Nicholas Flamel Series is amazing!! I need to read the series more but it's one of my fav series!!

Servants of War, the Larry Correia collab from Bane is worth keeping Mike. Highly recommend it.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on War for the Rose Throne! The ending was very profound and has stuck with me weeks after finishing it.
I’m reading saga of the forgotten warrior. It’s good so far
Can't fault a cover buy for the Foundryside books, they look pretty awesome.

Nice book haul Mike, I’m currently reading the Mistborn series !! Oh I will check that lamp, thanks for the link.
Those are some lovely bookmarks 😮 so thoughtful
Matter of fact I would love to read "John Dies at the End"
actually added to my TBR this week.
Even if you don’t like scythe, I think you’d really like Dry by schusterman, it’s a quick standalone

Really nice book haul. Will you ever write your own novel?
I have just finished the city of miracles series and they really are fantastic. Can't believe I hadn't heard that much hype about them
I was advised that the order for Witcher books is Last Wish, Season of Storms, Sword of Destiny, then the series. But who knows 🤷🏻♂️

Bennett's Divine Cities trilogy is really good.
I started saga of the forgotten warrior. It is actually really damn good! Some of the best fantasy I've read in years
@mikesbookreviews Have you read the Tex Murphy Series. They are written by the author that wrote the story line for the games in the 90's.
I'd keep Servants of War from that Baen box. That book fucking slaps.
I always forget my ebooks!😂😂😂
I think you’ll enjoy Philip Fracassi - VERY horror Stephen King like
I can’t wait for you to read the divine cities trilogy!! I think after the third book Sigrud will be one of your favorite fantasy characters 😁

Jackson Bennett's Divine Cities trilogy is absolutely incredible. The Founders trilogy was mixed for me, especially Locklands.
