"G3 N15" is for "Genís". Her nephew. She wrote that song for him during the pandemic. She was in the US making Motomami and She couldn't visit her family for 2 years. And She made that song for him talking about how much She misses him and loves him. The voice message I think it's ger grandmother actually speaking Catalán and not spanish. She is basically saying how important family is. First god, then family.

Btw, right off the bat, since you put so much focus on the lyrics, which is great for Rosalia bc they’re quite unique, I’d strongly suggest reacting to her previous album El Mal Querer. Much more flamenco inspired, and certainly less playful than Motomami, but it’s incredibly moving. And it’s actually a single story told in chapters. Each song represents a chapter in the life of a this woman who goes through a bad marriage.

In fact that album is based on a medieval book which was prohibited in that moment. Every song is based on each chapter. This album was her university degree project.

For god's shake, as a Spanish that knows about Rosalía, her past and what are the songs are about (cause she explained it in an interview with the youtuber Jaime Altozano), u freaking killed it. Every meaning, everything. Great work dude.
Also, about "Diablo", the pitched voice is like the fans hating her change in music, and then she replies to them.
So the haters say "You changed" and she's like replying to that.
About "Delirios de grandeza", it's just a cover from a song with the same title from Justo Betancourt.

    • @Jeity_
      @Jeity_ 2 роки тому +3

Yeah! I was thinking the same thing! In that interview she personally explained what each song is about and Luscent got everything right (well, except for maybe some Spanish cultural references, but still).

You are so intelligent and sensitive, it gave me the chills watching you getting emotional with some of the songs that did the same for me when I listened the album. I also laugh and cried with you. You nailed the meaning of the songs according to my interpretation as Spanish speaker but also to the interviews I have seen of Rosalía since the album was released.
I think she is such a great artist that she conveys emotion through her voice, you are the living proof that her music is beyond the lyrics... so beautiful video on such a beautiful artist, thanks!

I think the Vivianne she references in Saoko is Vivianne Westwood, the punk fashion icon. She's saying once you put pearls in the Vivianne necklace it becomes something new and different style wise. This album is a collage of what's considered high brow and low brow and mixing it and cutting it and patching it up. Reminds me a little of what Gaga set out to do with artpop. This album is so beautiful and fun I'm obsessed lol.
In Cuutee she's telling artists to avoud haughtiness and stay humble and invites them to take a step outside their towers by telling them the greatest artist is God and that to experience the beauty of butterflies (which also ties to her theme of transformation) you have to step out into the street and be among the people. In La Combi Versace she continues that theme where she sings about wearing expensive designer clothing but also wearing fakes because it doesn't change who she is and she's open to exploring herself I think she implying she cares more about the artistry than the prestige associated with the cost of the clothing.
I also love the little detail at the end of "Sakura" where she sings about the fleetingness of fame and then the song ends abruptly cutting off the cheering crowd very suddenly and without fanfare.

It's super interesting just how much of the meaning you got from just listening to the music itself, and then how it all clicked together when you read the lyrics. And it was so much fun to watch someone else get as excited as I was with all the little production details, and just how damn experimental and beautiful and clever this album is. Rosalía is amazing! Definitely dive into El Mal Querer as well, it's a lot more flamenco-inspired and it's a concept album, I think you'd really enjoy it! Her label was actually against her doing this, but she pushed to get it made. I love how she mixed so many genres for this album. Delirio de grandeza is a cover. Original belongs to Justo Betancourt. Rosalía wanted to sing bolero for the first time and she choose this classic piece.

Delirio de Grandeza is actually a cover of a 1968 song of the same name by Justo Betancourt, a Cuban Son singer.
La Fama is Bachata, from Dominican Republic.
Bulerías is traditional Flamenco, which is Rosalia’s musical training background. this is why she has such amazing control of her voice 💓 in this song you can hear traditional flamenco intonation in the vocal technique she uses.
Sakura was actually not recorded live - live audience recording was added after the fact to compliment the message of the song and as a tribute to live performances, in contrast to the isolation of covid during which this album was produced

In the song "Diablo" she reaffirms herself before possessive fandom and haters, represented by the distorted childish voice, fawning on her only to immediately say "you have changed, you are not the one I used to know, you re a devil". Basically a dig at people who think her new songs are too weird or too reggaeton or too commercial and talk as if they owned her and were entitled to put her into a box and decide what is better for her to do with her voice.

The funny thing about Rosalia's songs is that we, spanish speaking people, don't understand the lyrics either haha and we're huge fans of her music, you can still enjoy it, and dance to it.

React to her 2nd album, El Mal Querer, it's incredible. Also, try reacting to Kali Uchi's last album, they're so good. I love how you got some of the meaning of the songs just based on the production and her voice, music truly has no boundaries. Also, her name is Rosalía, just a little tip, when you see the stress mark on any spanish word, the emphasis is on that letter. :)

You should check out her visual album El Mal Querer , as this one is a fun album but the previous one is the best introduction to her unique art form.
Her first album Los Angeles is a beautiful flamenco offering. The second El Mal Querer is a fusion of traditional flamenco and modern music plus her experimentation with different sound effects, voice manipulation and other goodies. It's something else.
Btw El Mal Querer was inspired by a 13th century novel "Flamenca". It's a story in chapter's, every song tells the progression of a bad love from beginning to it's tragic end.
Love how much you get her. Awesome reaction.

Moto also it’s the shorten of motorcycle which is the principal aesthetic theme of the album
Reggaetón is the genre , saoko is the perfect description of the album showing the mix of rhythms, moto with the hard reggaetón beats, and the mami with the jazz, this case replicates in the whole album , it’s awesome tbh

In Diablo she talks about the hate that she gets from "fans" because many say she has changed because her style is different from the past album, so the diablo voice is saying that the one in the TV is not the same they've known. In a lot of the album she talks about being herself and not wanting to be put in a single category, that's why she likes mixing different styles.

I absolutely loved your interpretation of Motomami album and loved to see your "surprise faces" while listening to the unexpected turns in her songs! :)
Even though Rosalia's musical styles are far from my musical education (and are not my favs either), I totally agree with you: her voice is just incredibly sublte and conveys deep emotions... Plus, shes' able to mix many different styles and rhythms... it's really amazing! She transcends cultures. If you'd go deeper into her lyrics, you'd see her references are sooo rich, almost bibliographic!!!
Another thing I just love about her is her "music collage" style - to call it someway - It is really awesome and unique: it has so many layers... and her production ideas are brilliant and original. Her songs are deeper than what you expect in the beginning. All these things are not found in other latin artists (*)
I have one question: what did you mean by saying that "she is non-white", at 17:55 ? I didn't understand this part, if you'd be so kind to clarify it for me. :-)
(*) I used the label "latin" influenced by the mainstream music categories, but she's not one and I think it's wrong to label her as such (she's European, not Latin-American). In her case, I think her music goes much further than all those stupid labels from music industry. We're in 2022 and it's a global world. No matter where you come from, you can be exposed to many different musical influences. I think it's about time that music categories change. Music should be valued by its quality, not by its language or by the singer's origin.

So "La Combi Versace" is the most dominican song in this album and me being from there, I just felt like I had to explain some of the words and phrases :)
Starting from the title, which I think it is "La Combinación Versace" (The Versace Mix), and it makes sense since the song is about how these two girls ready to party and to spend come from low status neighbourhoods (Callejón or callejones here are part of the hood, they're small streets that connect bigger streets and parts of the city).
Rosalia basically explains that you're the Versace, not the clothes, since she says that she "wears fake but still looks original" and Tokischa says "me doy un flow ropa de paca y me veo original" (i wear thrift shop clothes and i still look original) and that shes the most expensive brand that you can't ever get (capear is like to get in the dominican slang).
But they also flex on how they were in a call with Milano and yadda yadda. At the end with the chops, basically Tokischa says "Paul Roman, Paul Roman, Paul Roman thongs (colaless or really small panties lmao), you can see my ass in Versace" and it doesn't say "Fuera" it literally says "Cuero del bajo mundo (Low-class bitch or Hood bitch)". Although she might actually be saying "fuera" but we are so used to Tokischa saying "cuero" on her songs lol.
