Part 3 --- time for an upgrade... time to fly higher!!
Well I'll be honest I haven't had much time on the foil over the winter as I've been traveling/wave sailing.
But with the summer coming up I thought it was time to get back on the foil program.
So when I was at the Defi Wind a few weeks I spoke to 'Bruno Andre" the main man at AFS (Alien Foil Systems) and one of the first wind foilers in the world and he told me it was time for an upgrade... and I needed to fly higher!!

This was a very informative interview. I now know that pairing a freeride / freerace foil with a foil proof windsurf board will suffice (instead of getting a dedicated foil board)...This should allow me to consolidate my low/mid wind quiver to a single board (eg a 120ish liter slalom board which would allow me to sail in sub 12 knot conditions, and blast in fin mode between 13 - 17 knots). Good stuff! Thank you.

As a newcomer to foiling.i just purchased a Tabou Rocket Plus LTD 2019..what foil would you recommend for this board .I am an average windsurfer and I just want to get foiling in light winds and cruise around...I got that board as i thought if the wind is too strong I can get out on a normal fin...is this a good choice do you think ?
I have been a long time windsurfer and really want to try foiling. Any possibility on my AHD Diamond 67 Slalom board working or must I scrap that idea and get a purpose built board? Not sure what sort of fin/foil box these fit into?
67 is pretty narrow.. I think you might need something over 72cm... but if it's got a deep turtle box give it a go. I know balz muller does it on his freestyle board which isn't super wide... just don't get one with a massive mast!
As you need more leverage (board width) the higher you go.
Ideally though you will need a wider a board I reckon.
As for the box... Antoine Albeau said to me when I asked if you needed a foil ready box... just use it and if it breaks... fix it!! if it doesn't break... awesome! :)

The problem is when you're making videos you can’t please all of the people all of the time.
Yes for sure it is an verry interesting tech talk. But i enjoyed the other 2 foiling guides so much that i was hoping for something similar with entertainer ben in action :)

Agree, too much of an "advertorial" kind of episode... You can do better than this, please bring back the action ;-) Plus I missed the freestyle/freemove foils that could be great fun
