Nice review! The villain was praised by others as well. To clarify - "Collection" - as Eric explained - is just a term for their new format for the "campaigns". You'll have these "collections" and the classic book campaigns for the special books, but most campaigns during the year will be in the "collection" format.
Can you still see all the metrics for each book publicly or did he remove all that stuff? I’m still waiting for his next “transparency report.” Idk why he stopped doing those.
what do you mean praised. The fucking guy is called Splatterpuss fucking ridiculous.
This book was awesome! I liked the more light hearted hero and the character building that is done in this one. In terms of character building this is likely the best book so far.
"It feels like a full origin story"? There are practically no dots connecting the character that exists at the end of GOODYNG: THE POLYMATH to the character we encountered in ISOM #2. Almost everything the reader knows about Goodyng from ISOM #2 has to be guessed at or invented whole-cloth in the reader's mind because GOODYING: THE POLYMATH contributes almost nothing toward setting up those things. (In fact, I theorize there is indeed a book missing here, as you suspect -- see my video "GOODYNG: A Study in Waste". But the consequence is that this book does not feel like a full origin at all -- maybe the first half of an origin at best.)
You're also reading too much into the Goodyng/Ron Hodges connection. Aside from getting gut-punched by Ron maybe 4-8 times during his freshman year -- I can't believe it was any more than that -- Goodyng and Ron never interact for the remainder of Goodyng's high school career. So Ron bugged Goodyng for 2 weeks and then was completely out of his life for probably 6-7 years. And I don't know what potential you see in Ron, either. He's portrayed as a straight thug who listened enough in English class that he can recognize Shakespeare, but other than that, his superpower (and an atrocious nickname) is all he's got.
I really wish I liked this book more than I did. He's got potential, but he's an Iron Man-type character, and as us old hats know, Shell Head wasn't always as popular as he currently is. That being said, I hope they do more with him. Outside of the two rippazines, I haven't missed an issue and don't plan to stop now. Nice review, by the way; it made me want to reread the book.
