Holes have to be located, drilled, loaded, stemmed, and leads tied together. Even after the blast, front end loaders and dump trucks have to move it to the crusher and screens. It's lots of work to make aggregate.

it takes gas and oil to mine these quarries, particularly, to run the machinery that have to move the hundreds of tons of rock, every day.
