How to Render and Cross Hatch on Basic Forms

  • Here is a practice activity for those of you that want to get better at your cross hatching and rendering techniques. This is a good exercise to practice every now and then. Try to create a variety of lines with different levels of taper to them. Also, try to create varying levels of tone and value as well.

    This channel deserves way more credit than what's getting, over 800 videos about so many subjects, rendering, anatomy,ink, digital, perspective, it's been around for more than 10 years and it gets only 242K subs. Seriously, I always wonder why this channel didn't get as big as Jazza, Sycra or MarkCrilley, the art certainly deserves it as I personally find Rob stuff much more appealing than Jazza or Criller.

    In an old video you asked for suggestion. For me, it’s background that I struggle eith. Street scenes, keeping height ratios right on i teriors, etc.

    Thanks! What is that pencil you are using? I've never seen a mechanical pencil with that size lead. Just the really fine ones.

      looks like a Staedtler Mars 780 Technical Mechanical Pencil, 2mm.
      I started using one after I saw Jim Lee use one on his streams, def like the feel of it compared to traditionally mech pencils.
      theyre like $10
