Just forget about the check engine light altogether. Rav4 is 19 years old and over time parts start to fail and deteriorate. My 2002 Rav4 has the check engine light and 02 sensors are likely gone as well but since my 2002 Rav4 is still an extremely reliable as heck I just keep driving my Rav4.
Mine did the same. I replaced the O2 sensors, and the codes didn't come back for over a year. Then, my daughter said it started rattling when the engine is idling, and the codes came back. New catalytic converter on the way. I made sure to get one with heat shield brackets.
Hi there, did the P0420 and P0430 ever come back after the cat change? How long has it been now since the change? I have the same exact year and model car and it’s due for smog check soon. Checked and tried everything and nothing worked. My last option is to change the cat. What was the mileage when you had the code? Mine showed up around 170K miles. You’re the only person on UA-cam who covered these codes and every step to tackle it in depth! Thank you so much!
My Rav4 constantly bothered me with the check engine lamp. It sometimes stays on, sometimes goes away. When my wife drives, it often went away. I thoutht the driving habit had some effect. But that time I didn't have the code reader. To pass the most recent smog check, I got the code reader and found so many code, which are mostly covered in my video. After replacing the converter, I don't see the code any more. After that, I disconnected the battery a few times, but CAT readiness gets ready very easily (just one drive cycle). So, even if the code does not turns on, delay in CAT readiness is probably caused by weakened converter. Unfortunately, due to the recent hike of the platinum price, the price of a catalytic converter has increased. I hope you are not in California (some states requires a compliant converter, which is much more expensive).
@@madatsukaerude Thank you so much for the reply and info. I’m glad you got the problem solved and the codes never came back. Unfortunately I’m in California… Excellent videos, keep up the great work! I appreciate you!

I don't remember where I got the converter, but I got is online. Google search the right part. As for the sensors, I should have a separate video that indicates the part number.
Have you had any problems with those lower brackets not lining up to support the Catalytic Converter? From what I understand, those lower brackets support the weight of the Cat Converter to prevent excessive stress on the exhaust manifold studs up top.
Yes, I believe the bottom bracket didn't fit and I gave up using the bottom bracket. It's been long time since I did this job, so I don't remember exactly, but I judged the bottom flange does not hold he eight of the muffler. See from 11:00.
@Mada tsukaeru de ... Since it's been a couple of years now, you're probably right. I would think unless you're rough off-roading, it probably doesn't matter. Luckily, I managed to modify one bracket to work, so that should be enough. I also had to bend and drill new holes in the heat shields to fit properly as well. Seems to run great. Thanks.
Had same problem on my 2002 Rav4, put 1 inch spaces from Amazon on the two rear O2 sensors to move them A little back from the exhaust and it worked great 👍🏻 about $25😁
Sure you get rid of check engine light problem, but what if your cat is destroyed internally and the exhaust gases can't flow freely? eventually can cause a problem to your engine

Hi, I have the same car, year, model and the same problems, Thanks for good video and info. Good job.

thank you 😊 same problem at 130000 kilometers I replaced the catalyst converter and the 4 o2 sensors and now its ok 👍
Good job 👏
How much time did it take to do the job?
I don't remember exactly, but probably all day.
where you from? replace my 2004 rav 4 catalytic converter 😂 I'll pay
Thanks for the video I have the same problem
Thank you very much !

Is there also a smaller catalytic converter or just the one?
It's only one, no smaller one.
How much is a new cat?
I paid total $1228.26 including tax and shipping. That's back in May 2021.
