It could be a way to build trust as a scammer. By seeming more entitled, it would seem like he is more willing to let go expensive sneakers at a lower price because they are easily replaceable by what he states by saying his mom will buy them hence if he takes a loss by selling cheaper it would be seen more understandable for the buyer making the seller more believable
