I was born in Hazelwood Castle in 1946 I found the video very interesting, my mother lived in Garforth at the time and having no transport I wondered how she got there. I now live in Australia but if I return I will certainly visit the Castle.

Happy to have watched this. My maiden name is Vavasour. My father Michael Vavasour passed away on April 15th this year as Notre Dame was burning away! Ironic if you ask me. Thinking about him and our family brought me here to this video.

We are related Karen. My family traces back to the Vavasour family. We are related to the Spencer Churchills as well. Prince William the future king of England is our cousin 20x removed.

I'm glad the family lineage is still going strong so far from Hazlewood! Thanks for sharing.

@@paulheaney4063 I’m hoping to learn more about my line from hazlewood as we know so little my grandfather passed before he could look more into where his parents where from

@@me7094 I simply made the video for the owners of the hotel at the time some years ago. I gleaned what I could from the information I found in the chapel there. So I'm not an historian, just the video maker. So the hotel may be able to help. There may also be records held by York city, who's auspices the castle comes under. Good luck!

I have often passed nearby on my travels through the motorway, in various part of Yorkshire and often wondered what the castle looked like. Fascinating if you come from a Catholic background such as I.

Hi Linda, I met the monks who used to live there before it became a hotel. They gave me a stained-glass window to photograph as part of my work as a photographer.

The battle wasn't in the civil war it was the wars of the roses. Edward 1v called at Hazelwood after the battle to get fresh horses (allegedly)

Thank you for your comment Delia. That is as maybe, yet it was still a civil war battle where a large section of society were pitched against another large section of society. There was not just one civil war battle. It was part of a series of civil war battles. By it's very nature it was a civil war unquestionably. But thank you for your kind interest Delia and raising an interesting point.

When the civil war in England is mentioned it is generally the one with Cromwell that springs to mind. Of course you are right in your summation that the wars of the roses was a civil war too. To the casual listener though it does appear to be a mistake on first hearing.

Nice voice and history...but please take some pauses. It's constant.

John Dinsky Thank you for your comment John. Well there are many pauses but I know what you mean as perhaps my tone is less varied than it could be. Thanks though.

@@paulheaney4063 No idea what Scott is referring to because his name is not Vavasour. My maiden name is. And it was my family's castle...
