    Every year in southern Europe, five million tonnes of fruit and vegetables are harvested for supermarket shelves. But those supermarkets are seeking ever lower prices, and are using the influx of migrants and illegal seasonal workers to cut costs. Our reporters went to meet the few workers brave enough to speak out against this illegal system - and the people who try to help those who have become modern-day slaves.
    If you check the labels on your fruit and vegetables, many of them are likely to say “Produce of Spain” or “Produce of Italy”. But some of those goods are being picked by desperate migrants being exploited by unscrupulous companies. In Spain, many pickers have fake contracts and no social security. In Italy, many of them are in fact taking orders from the Mafia. FRANCE 24’s reporters went to investigate the shocking conditions these migrants are forced to work under.

      True. I have been an orange picker in Portugal for about 5 years now. Work is often dangerous, unsanitary (dust, high trees, chemicals sprayed on the trees, logs and stones laying around that you can stumble on, etc.) and, usually, very demanding physically. Fortunately, conditions have improved over the years, with a payrise in the company where I work and better conditions on the fields. But, there remain many fruit picking companies here that exploit workers and offer worse conditions. Pickers deserve respect and recognition - without them, some types of agricultures is not possible.

    This is why the EU want's us to embrace mass migration and force integration onto it's citizens, so that the big corporations can have a steady supply of cheap labor. The CEOs at the top make millions while the rest of us have to make do with less and less. Remember that when migrants are willing to do a job for dirt cheap, the locals are forced to do the same. Centuries of fighting hard for worker's rights are slowly being thrown away as we slowly drift back to serfdom. It's a shame really, people need to wake up and vote for parties that stand against illegal migration in the coming European parliament elections.

    The difference in slavery in both groups is that their freedom or ownership of their bodies has not been denied to them. What is depicted here is not slavery. These people have a choice. Are they being exploited? Yes, but they also had a choice to refuse to work for such wages.

    What do you mean by cheaper : 34*30 = 1020 euros and they live for free,electricity free !!!
    if you see in Czech republic,Hungary the engineer itself earns around a basic salary of 700 euros

    • @yavor05
      @yavor05 5 років тому +3

      Your comparison does not make sense. For Spain, 700 euros are less than the minimum wage, and there are cities where if you would like to rent a small house, it costs you half your salary, plus electricity, gas and water. So with how much are you left? In Chechia, on the other had, 700 euros may be more than the average national salary, allowing you to have a confortable life. Regarding your maths, you should consider that even in agriculture, people usually don't work more than 6 days a week, and there are drops in demand that leave workers without a wage for some time. Also, agricultural work is not available during the whole year. Usually, it is seasonal.

      West Europe countries first deliberately destroyed African countries economies, even after decolonization, forcing Africans to move to Europe, while Europeans exploits natural wealth of Africa. Also, borders of African countries are deliberately created by Europeans in the way that there would be conflicts and civil wars. When the Africans come to Europe, Europeans will say nobody forced them and it's better to work in Europe than to starve in Africa. Give African countries their wealth back and they could live well from it, in their own country.

They were captured as children, sometimes after their village was distroyed, everybody slaughtered, except the children who were sold as slaves to North Sudan into Muslim families. They are treated very bad, because they are only Christians. Many of them die, the only way to survive is one day to try to escape. But if they are not lucky...

    Its all just like a vicious cycle. The illegal immigrant workers came for money. They illegally crossed all the borders at their life cost. The payment is mega low in EU but compared to back home, its still high. Their employers want to save costs (insurances for employees), they hire them. On this hand, they are exploiting those people. On the other hand, they still kind help them out. Who else still want to hire illegal immigrants? Noone else, I guess. This, I think, will never be stopped. This vicious cycle! Money starts it all and will never stop being the engine to get this cycle moved, because all involved are in need of money. Sadly!
