Ralph, I thoroughly understand how cold it is. Makes me hurt to think about it. I felt really bad when I watched a Ranch in Wyoming where the windchill was -56 degrees. I learned very quickly when I was on hospice care (in 1994 I was given 3 months or less to live; the Lord laughed at my doctors and so do i😊) the only activity that I could do manage a church prayer chain. It made me realize very quickly how truly blessed I was; that there was always someone who was much worse than I was. So even today, when I’m not having my best day, all that I ever need to do is look around. I may not “like” today, but I’m so very blessed and oh so grateful! We had a German Shepherd, and when he needed to go outside, if it was raining, he didn't want to go outside, but if it was snowing, he would run outside and play in it. He would run and fall over on his side and slide across the yard. He would do that several before coming back inside. He was the rut of the litter he was real little when we got him. Him being so small, we kept him in the house when he was big enough to go out with the other dogs it was cold, and by the time it got warm, he wouldn't stay outside. So he stayed an inside dog. My four chickens roost in the trees through the worst weather it’s like 12° with the wind blowing in a little bitty snow in Comanche Texas and I’ve never lost a chicken I’ve had these for for several years I hate that their out in the weather but they are free range, They come in the barn to lay their eggs and if it’s still storming during the day they go in the barn chickens are way tougher than anyone realizes

not sure your plan for keeping soaked pig food from freezing , I can tell you that for our greyhounds we used to put the soaked food in insulated coolers instead of a bucket and it kept it from freezing. You all do the MOST AMAZING things for your animals and should be very proud.. Keep on doing what you do!

Hello Ralph, separate the pigs food into baggies when you wet it down in the house then the next time when you go to feed them all you need to do is dump the food into each separate bowl. There is no way anyone could say you would not fix a place for your animals to be warm out of the weather while they are out side. Hello Grandpa and Grandma Doss. You have gone above and beyond for your animals. Grandpa Doss I also tend to just say it how it is and often have to explain what I mean because I grew up with parents that didn't candy coat anything. I grew up on a farm in the 70's and 80's we didn't have water heaters for a trough. We would take a 2x4 put it in the trough, it would help keep it from freezing sold and then we would take a sledge hammer and hit the piece of wood to break the ice. My stepdad would take would shavings from cut down trees to put in the chicken coop all winter and in the dog houses. We had cold weather but these temps are not usually what we get. This morning it was -2 with a wind-chill of -22. Currently we're -1 with a wind-chill of -14. 🥶 They're saying that our wind-chills could be from -15 to -35 over the next couple days. Thursday I was driving from our country property to the city property, it's about an hour and a half drive one way. When I decided to head up the temperature was 53 degrees. By the time I filled up with gas and got on the road the temperature had dropped to 10 degrees.🥶 On my way up I could feel the temperature getting colder the further north I went. I was 30 minutes from the city property when out of nowhere 20-30 deer crossed the road. Yeppers, I hit one at 55 miles an hour. There wasn't anything I could do but just keep going. At that time I was worried I would be stranded alongside the road and the temperature was 1 degrees with a wind-chill of -24!🥶 I kept a eye on the temperature gauge to make sure that the truck didn't over heat and got to the house. I firmly believe had I been driving our car it would have been a total loss. Our truck is a 1988 Chevy 1500. So far I have to replace the radiator and a blinker. I was extremely lucky to get it home and I didn't wreck the truck. Everyone be careful traveling at night. Much Love from our family to your family 💞

Michigander here to say stay safe and I'm glad you decided against the mini donkeys. Yeah I believe you would enjoy them but the exception rules sometimes doesn't work out in the way you hope which is what my family is facing with our decision to get geese and put them with chickens. For a while it was fine but now that their almost a year old and mating season approaches its causing some issues. Our plan is to get them into a separate run come spring so they can graze and be out more often rather than our chickens. Straw on the ground is a pain to cleanup but its definitely amazing on how warm it keeps them. I've been manually having to open/close our coop door as well because of weather. Sadly I'm not a morning person so I'm half asleep when I go out and not fun to find it frozen lol.
You treat your animals better than some humans treat humans. I praise you for the love you show and how your concern for them makes my heart melt. I could never harm an animal. We are experiencing extremely cold temps in Minnesota.

Your doing everything right for your pets and yes your dogs like my Snow Queen love love loves the cold. Their double coat has a built in insulation and the outer coat sheds the water, they’ll use the dome if it gets too cold for them….they look healthy and happy. Here in NY its 21 degrees, the wind has been blowing since yesterday. I dont go outside at all but my son has been out 4 times today to snowblow for neighbors. Stay warm.. we are -6 right now. Schools already closed for tomorrow. We have 8 inches of snow. I put straw down in my coop every year. For there feet. They can freeze there feet. I would love one of doors. My chickens molt in Aug. Had the guy at the feed store told me to light the coop for 8 to 12 hours. Just a white light bulb. No heat. I am trying it. I cant believe how happy they are this year. They are happy. Mine wont come out due to snow. So they stay in the coup. I have a out door area thats coverd. They go out there. Its been nice so far.

Glad that the chickens have an emergency door - would the issue be that the batteries can't cope with the cold on the usual door?
You have done so much to keep everyone warm and safe, I'm sure they appreciate it - I cannot stand to have my nose cold even in the 20s, the thought of going into negative numbers ? aargh🥶 🥴 So many prayers for those who are homeless, for whatever reason, or who cannot afford the heating bills ~ these are the moments when it's most stark that we are not doing it right in terms of society and community, where money is more important than people 🤔😪

Here in Kentucky we're not getting out of the teens until Thursday we might get above freezing. Then more snow is due Friday. The arctic blast is affecting most of the country. I'm over winter already. God bless you all and keep warm. ❤

Hello Grandpa and Grandma Doss. You have gone above and beyond for your animals. Grandpa Doss I also tend to just say it how it is and often have to explain what I mean because I grew up with parents that didn't candy coat anything. I grew up on a farm in the 70's and 80's we didn't have water heaters for a trough. We would take a 2x4 put it in the trough, it would help keep it from freezing sold and then we would take a sledge hammer and hit the piece of wood to break the ice. My stepdad would take would shavings from cut down trees to put in the chicken coop all winter and in the dog houses. We had cold weather but these temps are not usually what we get. This morning it was -2 with a wind-chill of -22. Currently we're -1 with a wind-chill of -14. 🥶 They're saying that our wind-chills could be from -15 to -35 over the next couple days. Thursday I was driving from our country property to the city property, it's about an hour and a half drive one way. When I decided to head up the temperature was 53 degrees. By the time I filled up with gas and got on the road the temperature had dropped to 10 degrees.🥶 On my way up I could feel the temperature getting colder the further north I went. I was 30 minutes from the city property when out of nowhere 20-30 deer crossed the road. Yeppers, I hit one at 55 miles an hour. There wasn't anything I could do but just keep going. At that time I was worried I would be stranded alongside the road and the temperature was 1 degrees with a wind-chill of -24!🥶 I kept a eye on the temperature gauge to make sure that the truck didn't over heat and got to the house. I firmly believe had I been driving our car it would have been a total loss. Our truck is a 1988 Chevy 1500. So far I have to replace the radiator and a blinker. I was extremely lucky to get it home and I didn't wreck the truck. Everyone be careful traveling at night. Much Love from our family to your family 💞

If you will spray WD 40 on your chicken door , maybe it won’t freeze! I heard to spray WD 40 on my locks like pad locks door locks, and they won’t freeze. I try it !! And it worked

Michigander here to say stay safe and I'm glad you decided against the mini donkeys. Yeah I believe you would enjoy them but the exception rules sometimes doesn't work out in the way you hope which is what my family is facing with our decision to get geese and put them with chickens. For a while it was fine but now that their almost a year old and mating season approaches its causing some issues. Our plan is to get them into a separate run come spring so they can graze and be out more often rather than our chickens.
Straw on the ground is a pain to cleanup but its definitely amazing on how warm it keeps them. I've been manually having to open/close our coop door as well because of weather. Sadly I'm not a morning person so I'm half asleep when I go out and not fun to find it frozen lol.

It's really cold here in Longmont Colorado wind chills have been 20-30 below and highs have been in the single digits It's going to be 5 degrees for the high tomorrow, i think it hit 7 today.real feel is -6 tonight.Supposed to snow tonight, we only got 3" of snow the 1st part of the storm. Awesome video, Hello from Quebec Canada, and exactly, if your body doesn’t run antifreeze like Canadians, don’t stay in the cold longer than needed. Your doing everything right for your pets and yes your dogs like my Snow Queen love love loves the cold. Their double coat has a built in insulation and the outer coat sheds the water, they’ll use the dome if it gets too cold for them….they look healthy and happy. Stay warm and safe through the arctic weather, God bless you and your family.

I remember in a previous video, can't remember how long ago, your middle name was mentioned. I knew what it was so didnt put down a guess. Here in NY its 21 degrees, the wind has been blowing since yesterday. I dont go outside at all but my son has been out 4 times today to snowblow for neighbors. The wind and snow doesnt bother him at all. I would be freezing before I go to the bottom of the steps

If you all are closing the garage doors at night maybe you could get an infrared heater and put it by the cat area in the garage and just turn it on when everything is shut up for the nite.
Have you thought about adding cracked corn to the Pigs and Goats diet while it's cold? To help them stay warm.

We have 8 inches of snow. I put straw down in my coop every year. For there feet. They can freeze there feet. I would love one of doors. My chickens molt in Aug. Had the guy at the feed store told me to light the coop for 8 to 12 hours. Just a white light bulb. No heat. I am trying it. I cant believe how happy they are this year. They are happy. Mine wont come out due to snow. So they stay in the coup. I have a out door area thats coverd. They go out there. Its been nice so far.
