Just a follow up to your question. Unfortunately the only way to see that Playhouse 90 episode is to watch the kinoscope on site at the UCLA Film and Television Archive. I believe there is also one at the Paley Center for Media in New York. I did watch it at UCLA some years ago as I am a big fan of hers and she was as fantastic as you would expect.
Thank you for sharing that information. Maybe someday I'll get the chance to see that show. Patty McCormack is just such a wonderful actress and a lovely lady as well. Apparently, she and Patty Duke didn't meet until much later in life, and it was Mackenzie Astin who arranged a meeting. The two women became close friends. Now, that's a show business story that makes me smile!
Nice choices Mike! I know them all, to varying degrees, as a Noirholic myself. You may know that I WOULDN'T BE IN YOUR SHOES was a 'Holy Grail" noir for many years, with only a nearly unwatchable print circulating around...now on the bluray it looks great.
Hi Jay! Thanks for the comment. Always nice to converse with a fellow Noirholic! No, I wasn't aware of the Holy Grail status of IWBIYS. In fact, I can't remember when I first heard of it or where I bought it. I may have picked up my bootleg copy at Cinevent in 2019. I only realized it was on Blu-ray when I was doing research for this video, and I do want to get it. My copy is OK and watchable enough for my decidedly low standards. It looks as good as most of the Late Show movies I saw on TV growing up. Good movie!
Some intriguing recommendations, Mike. I hadn’t heard of a couple of them and the only one I am sure I have seen is The Big Night as I am a Joseph Losey completist. It is one of his most overlooked movies. It always amazes me how many movies were made from Cornell Woolrich’s work. Imdb lists 113!
Yes, the name of Woolrich comes up constantly in film credits. I'm glad I could find some fairly obscure titles that not everyone has heard of. Thanks for commenting, Roger. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
No, what you really need is to watch more Beach Party movies. Just joking. (No, I'm serious.) As I just replied to the comment below, if you like good challenging dramatic stories, then there are so many Noir titles that can bring that into your experience. My interest in the genre got stronger when I started reading about these movies in books. Then I started making lists of titles to watch out for. There's so much to explore and learn about. I feel like I've only scratched the surface. I highly recommend the book FILM NOIR: AN ENCYCLOPEDIC REFERENCE TO THE AMERICAN STYLE, edited by Alain Silver and Elizabeth Ward.
Nice picks! these are good obscure films! I've had my eye on "the big night" for awhile, glad you recommend it I'll check it out now! "brainscan" is also another one I've thought about! very cool!
I'm pretty sure I've seen The Big Night but a long long time ago. John Barrymore Jr. also went by John Drew Barrymore and was the Father of actress Drew Barrymore. He had a lot of issues and never really made it that big. He did do a lot of early television including co starring in the original production of The Miracle Worker, before the play and movie, for Playhouse 90 starring Patty McCormack. Good stuff lately Mike!!
I totally forgot to mention that Barrymore changed his name in 1958, but I think most people already know it. He was an interesting guy, not just as an actor, but for his complicated life. I'd like to know more about him. He's in one of my favorite Teen Angst flicks, High School Confidential, even though he was way too old to be in high school in 1958. I remember seeing his name on the cast list for The Miracle Worker. Did you ever see that broadcast? I would love to see it but haven't been able to locate it anywhere. I would love to see what Patty McCormack did with that role.
Well, I hope you'll give the genre a chance one of these days. There are so many fascinating films that are classified as Film Noir. So many good stories. Really, if you just appreciate good drama in general, Film Noir titles should bring you a lot of enjoyment. Thanks for commenting!
Those all sound very good. My mom bought The Desperate Hours, starring Fredric March and Humphrey Bogart, a month ago and I borrowed it to see how it is and it’s quite good. A very well done Film Noir. Thank you for the video Mike, I hope you’re doing well. Take care!
Hi Jared! The Desperate Hours is a very good Bogart film. I see it's been given an Arrow Video release, and I would love to get a copy.I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it. We all need a little Film Noir in our lives. Thanks for commenting, and I hope you have a wonderful week!
These sound interesting. I don't watch much noir, but I've been watching The Rifleman and I've noticed that the best looking episodes are directed by Joseph H. Lewis. Evidently Lewis directed a noir film called "Gun Crazy". I've been meaning to check that film out but I haven't got around to it yet.
Joseph H. Lewis has an interesting filmography as a director. He directed a low budget Bela Lugosi film at Monogram called INVISIBLE GHOST (1941) and later on one of the darkest of all Films Noir, THE BIG COMBO (1955), which I highly recommend. GUN CRAZY is a terrific film. I hope you get a chance to see it. Thanks for commenting!
Hi Neil! Yes, a couple of these movies can be seen here on UA-cam. I hope you find them worthwhile. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. I hope your Noirvember is going well!
@@grey1951I watched The Big Night, a really interesting one so thanks. I then went straight to another Losey one from that same time before he got blacklisted, The Prowler . Really good also
thanks for some great ideas. I have already put them in my wish list.
I hope you enjoy the films when you get a chance to see them. Happy Noirvember! And thank you for watching and commenting.

Thanks for tuning in!! 🙂

Hi Mike! I tried to come up with obscure titles. I hope you get the chance to see some of these. Take care!
Let's see I have heard of exactly NONE of these, lol! But that's good. Because it means i still have a lot to enjoy!
Wow, another great video and opportunity to learn about lesser known noirs outside of the common cannon. Really appreciate it Mike!
Hi Altaz, and thank you for commenting! I think you might appreciate these films if you get a chance to see them. Take care!
Noir is such an underrated genre great topic and a few more titles I’ll have to keep my eye out for. Great video.
Thanks for watching! I hope these films can help to expand your Noir experience.
