The Colle Delle Finestre is known in cycling circles for it's 8km stretch of gravel roads towards the summit. This dramatic 18km climb starts in the town of Fuga, it's 55 hairpin bends twisting it's way through the trees before the canopies give way to breathtaking views of the canyon below. The varied scenery combined with barely any traffic makes for a true epic, enough for Simon and Matt to declare it the best ever.

Fair play to Matt, not too many men receive the pension and still match the pace of a young guy like Simon!
+Oisin Reid Ouch
+Oisin Reid probably the only rider in the autobus with an actual bus pass.
+Where'sAllTheRumGone?? "really though, wheres the rum gone?" can't be a captain without a bottle of rum, can we hehe thats me favorite quote in the movie
I think Si might have thrown him a bone on this one - pretty sure Simon could still work as a pro
One of the best videos you have ever made - wonderful pictures! Had a good laugh at 2:30: "I'm in!" ROFL That was one for the true fans of your channel!!!
If you're considering riding this climb: the gravel section is not always as easy to ride as it is shown on this video. Either ride it just before a Giro stage (they prepare it) or on a mountainbike, is my tip. Normally, fist-size rocks are all over the road. Reduce tyre pressure on the road bike if you do choose to use it. I had a lot of fun ascending it on a road bike this summer, but if I would do it again, I would use a mountainbike
Thank you GCN, for putting the music in the description :) Always fantastic songs in your videos.
this one is on my bucket list there is nothing like rideing just hearing birds and tyres
Congrats! One of the most interesting well directed, BEAUTIFUL scenery videos you ever produced!
Well done, guys! One down and more to come... Thanks for sharing your ecpic adventure.
After watching this gem, it's now a life goal of mine to ride all of the GCN epic climbs. Way to go guys, and thanks for this sharing this ride!
watching this back makes me so jealous of how smooth the boys make riding up a big mountain look! i'd love to give it a nudge myself one day..... maybe a triple needed....
Sucking in the dust from the camera car up a 10% climb looks like fun!
I don't usually comment on these videos but when it comes to epic climbs there's one that particularly stands out for me and that's the Colle delle Nivolet, only about 100km from the Finestre. It's 50km long but every meter of it screams epic. The closest to heaven it's possible to reach as a cyclist.
+Peter Bond Thanks for the tip, we'll have to check that out!
+Global Cycling Network +Peter Bond Love that place.. did an uphill TT there 2 months ago. Awesome
Pretty much every mountain road from that part of Italy/France ends up in an epic Col, and that's not even counting mountain bike roads because then there are just too many to pick from!
Brilliant. Straight to the top of the list of climbs to do.
Thanks for a fantastic video guys! Really enjoyed the riding and the scenery, and loved the enthusiasm
I ride a mountain bike but love watching GCN. All of the presenters are fantastic, very humerus and natural.
That climb is amazing, certainly epic, and well done to still being able to report when you are obviously out of breath and suffering a little.
I enjoy doing climbs, but I'm not that good at them yet. Had a failed climb at Phanom Rung in Thailand but going back to beat it. It was excessively hot, my water was running low and still had to ride 25km back to the house.
Beautiful. Thank you.
Beautiful video...thx guys.
I am new to cycling and your videos have thought me so much and I just love your channel. I watch every video you post and they all amazing
Gorgeous!
Welcome to my lands... that's Piemonte!
I think what truly makes the climb epic is that you guys still managed to speak and have an actual conversation whilst climbing !
Man , I would be so out of breath I reckon I'd barely be able to drink from my water bottle !
so...kudos !
Amazing scenery.
Living in Aus, its hard not to be jealous of the mountains in Europe. Beautiful
i think australia is an amazing country but there's so much i would miss there, being someone who loves historic places it would feel so crazy to me that the oldest building down there is like 200 years old
Plenty of decent climbs around Canberra in the Tidbinbillas and Brindabellas, nothing on this level though
Amazing nature and pretty cool that you talk at some of these ramps.Cool vid as always!
sensational ... this is what riding is all about - wow!
Looks awesome
Thanks guys. Nice ride...
Amazing climb and scenery!
Checking this video out after the 2018 Giro D Italia is a whole notha story! It's on my bucket list! Thanks!
Good effort guys. Looks great
What a great place ride a bike at! Simon and Matt must be in great shape do that ride an in same time talk. Well made GCN!
one of your best.
What an absolutely fantastic awe inspiring video
Brilliant video guys 👍
Brutal but epic climb guys! Loved it. so good. Can't really say much more cause the scenery etc. looks absolutely amazing along with the climb itself.
Well done guys
I like that the alpine gravel roads are better surfaced than the gravel/dung strewn, potholed lanes of Staffordshire.
You could prescribe this for anxiety! Hats off, great video.
That looks amazing
I did this climb the same day the Giro d'Italia passed there this year! Absolutely epic! In one word: unique!
Really nice!!!
Most epic climb - bloody hard work - could hear Matt from here -
fantastic! i would love to go there.
I love the dedication to eat dirt and still be able to talk. Great job guys.
Enjoyed this videos thoroughly. Thanks :)
Thanks for watching.
+Global Cycling Network Si looks so chilled the whole ride up the mountain.
Epic ride, followed by poetic words, GCN you're spoiling us!
amazing stuff
nice climbing! great camera work too
Tough climb phew I did it twice in a week. Oh but then I was on my motorbike and its only after seeing this I now know its a epic climb. Thanks lads. May now have to return there and cycle it.
The downhill on that must be crazy!!
Greetings from Switzerland
Amazing....
BAM!!!!!! Wow next year or two, like to make that trip..
I like the new kit
I commute 4 days a week in Chicago. In downtown you have to stop for almost every intersection and then accelerate hard to keep up with the traffic and not get run over by crazy cab drivers. I established a solid technique to clip in fast and smooth. Look at your pedal right now. It stays in that position because of how the weight balances it. Get your foot in 10 o'clock position against the pedal and at about 1-2 o'clock your cleat should be in the pedal. On the down stroke just press down and vuala!
Hope this helps Matt(:
for the bucket list; the climb up Hleakala volcaneo in Maui .60 km climb at 7%average gradient with 44 switchbacks, 12,240 feet altitude. Now, that's a climb...!!
Just saw Matt clip in first attempt. had to rewind to make sure I was right! Well done Matt
Bucket list!
Great video as always, some of the views there were incredible - don't know about anyone else but I'd be interested to see the descent down the other side of the climb with these videos for a full perspective of these cols/colles/altos or any other names they might have - in my opinion it would give us a view of the ride as a whole.
wow, beautiful shots of a wonderful climb... i'm l little jealous of you :)
i've had my fill of alps this year though. i was in the swiss alps riding amongst other things the col du sanetsch... beautiful climb aswell!
It is just more fun to watch these guys than the Col Collective.
2:28 That was much better than normal. Looks like Matt's been practicing clipping into his pedals!
great video, if you can handle these epic climbs love to see you guys tackle the Andorra stage of the vuelta ;-)
Great filming job, too.
Incredibly epic climb, beautifully made video, impeccable clipping, Matt. Does Si ever feel the need to breath at all? Planning a trip to Italy now.
What a super video in an amazing climb ! I want to do this :D
I love the climb videos guys. You should show your descent too. Cheers!!!
service note. if you do that on a mtb once you reach the top you can take the assietta road wich is a military off-road track among the highest roads in europe, around 2400m, the view is absolutely breathtaking.
You guys have the best job in the world :)
GCN's best video
why would anyone give this a thumb's down??? This is great, as usual.
Really got to put this on my bucket list... :-D
made it this year with Giro =) really amazing climb!!!
Driving past next week, will have my bike with me so may just have to give it a crack!
It would be great if you could do that series in the America too!
Simon: I gave it a cheeky little thumbs up.
You guys should try the Weissenstein in the swiss Jura. It's only 850 meters of height from Solothurn all the way to the top, but it has gradients of up to 22%. And the view (on sunny days) is just tremendous. You can overlook the whole "Mittelland" and get full view of the alps.
that be cool to see the decent on that gravel road
Braviiiiiii !!!
Chapeau lads. When was this recorded?
Matt doesn't seem to have trouble clipping in anymore... Thumbs up
To the bucket list, no doubt! Now, am I the only one that notice Matt clipping at once? I want those tips, what an improvement! And Matt was all the way up heavily breathing while Si was really really silent but still working hard to the top. He has done CX, he has done this Col on an even pace with Si, he is an EPIC RIDER! (an also, he's the best Epic shouter; sorry Dan).
Suprised Matt didn't do his EPIC voice at the start..
+SwedishHouseFifa And he forgot to roll up the sleeves...gotta roll up the sleeves or it's just NOT EPIC!
Reminds me of the Socha valley in Slovenia
That looks brilliant, the boys will have to come and try one of our Monte Grappa climbs, there are 10 to choose from with some gradients of 30%
#best gcn video so far.
Epic!
epicness. nice new word :)
Epic!!!
And how quick Froome was up here!
Trolls Ladder (Trollstigen) in Norway might not be the hardest nor longest climb, but it's definitely up there amongst the most breathtaking!
It's my dream to ride in a place like that 😍
It's a little local to home, and nowhere near as long, but a climb we know as the "off road shelf" in north Wales is a mountain bike climb we done on road bikes, with mudguards on as well!! I'll have to find the exact location.
I bet they loved breathing in the dust from the camera vehicle :-D
Brazil!!!
Great video, i wonder what gears did you use ??
Cool video.
this is the most beautiful one, woooow. amazing. So beautiful! Great choice. Great video! Thank you
Try the col du Parpaillon near Embrun. Great climb to do!
For me the Col de la bonette is the most epic one that i did. 2862m. Truly epic !
Please ride one time the "Kitzbühler Horn" in Austria
On the calendar, September can't come soon enough!
you should do a video of what wheels to use and when, or what depth of wheels are best suited to each terrain
