Few people still have never heard his story. His story and video should be told and seen in schools throughout the world so that others realize the power one person can possess when desperate actions are needed.
Imagine the pride one would feel being able to say Nicholas Winton was my husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, even friend! What a wonderful human he was.
Omg! I cried watching this! The selflessness & courage of one man is an inspiration and beacon of light to us all to want to be better human beings. God bless this man and those he saved. Rest in peace Sir Nicholas Winton.
The scope of this is really something else. Imagine saving the lives of over 600 children and saying nothing for over half a century. The moment he saw just one of those children as an old woman clearly impacted him. He realized in that moment that he had given her the opportunity to see the result of her entire life, which likely would have ended half a century prior. The reality is suddenly magnified when 5 rows of people who he was responsible for saving stood up, and without saying a single word showed him all he had done. Every single person got to experience a full life because of him. He would have been perfectly content to never have heard from them again. And when he finally realized the magnitude of what he did, words were no longer needed. I'm probably rambling, but I'd love to hear what he was thinking when he turned to see everyone who he saved finally get a chance to thank him. I only wish they would have all brought their children and grandchildren so Winton could see the new generations of children that wouldn't exist if not for his direct actions.
He actually did meet them! When he turned the 100 he attended a group gathering for his birthday...He met all of the children that were still alive and their children. And their grandchildren. If I can recall correctly someone made a comment that he was the spiritual guardian of over 2200 people! You hear about so many atrocities that happened during the war because of the nazis but you don't always hear the wonderful stories of heroism. I absolutely sobbed the 1st time I saw this....the gratefulness of the first lady...so touching...you can tell she was overwhelmed at seeing him again. If you look up the story of how the children were spirited out of their homeland and through France to England the train that they were on was stopped by a group of German soldiers but they let the train pass... Again if I'm recalling correctly no one to this day knows why the soldiers let the train go... If they hadn't none of these people here in the video would be alive today most likely...😥😪😔
acutally in the full thing the host ask if there is any children or grandchildren of the children he saved and everyone else stands up. So he was pretty much responsible for everyone in that audience being alive.
I have watched this video more than 100 times and cried every single time. I can't imagine the emotions that went through that amazing man's mind when he saw those children he rescued all beautifully grown up and lived a full life now surrounding him with gratitude and love..... Rest in Peace sir.. The world need more people like you to remind everyone what actual humanity is...
I too cry every time I watch the video. Sending the link to as many friends and family members as possible to share with them the story of this great man.
Because he both refused to be a passive bystander idly watching the plight of hundreds of children and had ultimate humility after doing such a noble act, I think this is one of the purest characters I’ve ever come across. It’s impossible not to like and admire him.
He is so humble and you can see how strong he was being while staring at those people he saved who went on to have lives of their own. Truly a remarkable man.
Exactly... humble through and through. He did such a beautiful compassionate thing in a horrific time in human history and told absolutely nobody. Like someone mentioned he without a doubt deserves saint status 🙏
Another little known hero who saved Jewish lives, similarly to Sir Nicholas Winton, was Chiune Sugihara. He saved thousands by issuing visas that allowed safe travel to Japan, and then to the Soviet Union. He gave the visas regardless of whether they met the criteria or not. He spent every waking moment writing them, and authorising them with his official stamp.
I remember this story - even as he was literally on the train being actively deported from Germany, he continued writing visas and throwing them out the train's window in hopes of saving even one more life.
He was a wonderful human being! Raoul Wallenberg also used his diplomatic powers to save thousands. At some point he was giving documents to people who were already in cattle wagons telling them to get off. Sadly, his own story didn't end well, but he's much admired up to this day.
One of the most tragic parts of history is that the ordinary people who've done extraordinary things are often forgotten. I'm glad they found this man's records & gave him the love and respect he deserves what a hero
1:10 That cut to his face when she said "This is one of the children he saved" is so powerful that you can read his mind and heart. She's telling a story of him saving a life in the midst of the world going insane and committing themselves to the wide-scale ending of life instead... and there isn't even a hint of a smile, nor happiness, nor pride. You can tell he's having a Schindler moment and crying inside for all those he COULDN'T help.
His reactions to the presenters praise of him, and to finding out the children are there in the studio around him, are also very powerfully telling. He may not say it but he's clearly shocked, and I don't think just from the surprise of them being there. He never shows even the slightest bit of pride at the praise for the entire duration, but when he and Vera find out they're right next to each other she beams at him in a way that says "You gave me my entire life."... and he just grins back as if he's just happy to see an old friend and never gave her more than a candy bar. It's as if, even though he knew all those decades ago he was saving a child's life and obviously knows children grow into adults, he never considered the fact that they'd grow into adults who felt like they owed him anything, much less everything. It just shows you that in his heart he didn't do this for pride or credit, or even because it was the "right" thing to do. He did it because he simply couldn't imagine a real human being doing anything else.
They should have a day named after this man and this story should be told in every school. A picture of all the children he saved and all the children that were born as a result of his courage as a reminder of the difference one person can make.
In less than a thousand years, millions of people would have lived and loved all because of this lovely man. People who would not have existed otherwise. Let us all strive to try and be like him.
My grandfather passed away almost a year ago. The family just discovered that, while living modestly and never made a high income, he accumulated over a million dollar and gave away almost as much. He never told anyone. He was 96 when he left us. I miss him so much. He may not be a hero like Sir Nicholas Winton but they are from the same generation, tough, resilient and proud. And good Christians
This actually made me cry, I’ve never been told directly our family’s connection to Sir Nichols Winton but my grandad was a child in Czechoslovakia during the war who managed to escape to the uk
This hits deep when they all stood up. This man saved generations yet to be born that without him would never exist. I couldn't even imagine having that kind of impact.
I’ve seen the worst in people and I’ve seen war most of my adult life. This man renewed my faith in people and is the very definition of what being a good man means
I think he lived as long as he did just so that he was given the chance to meet those he saved and see what an impact he had on the world. Rest in peace, sir. Wish there were more people out there like him.
What's very intriguing is how he not only saved children but how he saved their future progeny. Decades later a baby being born so far removed in a completely different country literally exists because of this man. Thats legacy that can never go away
Pipi Long yes, a man who lives and makes the best out of his time, dignity and also his own wealthy background , which is really really hard to achieve :)
This man is incredible. He worked with a whole team of people to get those kids out and safely away from the Nazis. He even wrote president Franklin D Roosevelt begging him to help. They could have saved 2,000 more children if America agreed to accept children. Winton looked for every opportunity to save those kids. We need more people like him in this world
Yes, it's sad that the only country that agreed to take the children in, was England, but very glad they did. Many more children could've been saved if more doors had been open to them. In a documentary about Sir Nicholas Winton, his biggest regret was the last train he filled with about 200 or more children, was stopped from leaving. It was assumed that most of them didn't live. One of the most amazing facts about his story is, he didn't go with the intention of saving children, he went to join a friend, to ski and have a holiday. It's a wonderful story of how he evolved from being a carefree, quite well off young man, into being a wonderful, lifesaving humanitarian.

Hope more people from both religion read and understand this.

A question like this has always been asked. If you could go back in time and have a meal or just a drink with anyone of your choosing, who would it be and why? I think we could all fantasise such an encounter with legends from our past time. For me it is Sir Nicholas Winton. @@soumopalit1034 There is a specific title and honor for people like him. It's called "Righteous Among the Nations", which he was awarded. There are 27,362 Righteous Among the Nations recipients from from 51 countries.
Now this my dear friends is a true hero... a 'REAL' hero. This isn't somebody who has been falsely deemed a hero for merely being good at sports, being a religious leader, or by finding a celebrity status, etc. This is somebody who has saved the lives of many and in turn, through love and kindness, actually made the world a better place. If just one person reads this and chooses to celebrate this person and other people with similar deeds over that of Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, and other celebrities, etc. then a positive change has been made.

Obviously he knew he did a good thing, but I’m not sure it set in until he saw a crowd full of old people, all who’ve lived full lives and had children of their own. To him he was just doing what must be done, to the rest he made a great sacrifice. Great man.
It goes to show you you never know who you'll encounter in life. You might have met someone who saved countless lives and would never know it. This is why we must be kind to others, a lot of heroes are doing great work behind the scenes.
@@LinkRocks true heroes fight battle we know nothing about daily.

They're even better in my house.
In here my eyes are burning from the onion my tears are trying to put off the fire .

I shouldn’t have started to watch this on the bus. Damn ninjas cutting onions!
Augusto Meira i agree, right now the onions are good!
I've just watched "one life" on the cinema, myself and others came out in tears. Rest In Peace Nicholas, you won't be forgotten! ❤️
The good don't always die young. I wish people like this could have another 100 years for us to admire.
He is such a beautiful soul may he forever rest in peace ❤
Few people still have never heard his story. His story and video should be told and seen in schools throughout the world so that others realize the power one person can possess when desperate actions are needed.
Hopefully the film which releases next year called one life will spread his story even more
I was just about to comment the same thing how is this man not being taught about in schools
"MANY" people still have never heard his story. Learn English.

Imagine the pride one would feel being able to say Nicholas Winton was my husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, even friend! What a wonderful human he was.
Sometimes I wonder what it means to live a successful life.
Then I remember sir Nicholas Winton.
In the Czech Republic he is very distinguished person, absolutly deservedly. Thank you sir we will never forget what you have done for our children ❤️
That little nod he gives them all as well as he turns around...not a word needed to be exchanged in that moment.
Like you said words weren't needed. He nods his head as he looks at the rows of people behind him
acutally in the full thing the host ask if there is any children or grandchildren of the children he saved and everyone else stands up. So he was pretty much responsible for everyone in that audience being alive.
@@therealronswanson You're spot on. By now there are probably a few thousand children descended from those he saved.
Very few people will ever have the privilege of standing up, and seeing the fruit of your good life’s work.
Instant water works everytime
His being humble is epic!
It’s impossible not to like and admire him.
truly one of the best characters humanity has ever produced
Think about the generations of people that will be able to trace their lineage back to the person saved by this man. Awe inspiring.
A picture of all the children he saved and all the children that were born as a result of his courage as a reminder of the difference one person can make.
agreed!
In less than a thousand years, millions of people would have lived and loved all because of this lovely man. People who would not have existed otherwise.
Let us all strive to try and be like him.
The descendants of those children he saved probably runs into thousands.
I am a Syrian refugee and I cried, many good people helped my family so we could survive. Sir Winton is amazing.
This hits deep when they all stood up. This man saved generations yet to be born that without him would never exist. I couldn't even imagine having that kind of impact.
I’ve seen the worst in people and I’ve seen war most of my adult life. This man renewed my faith in people and is the very definition of what being a good man means
The ending where him and his family walk off and blended into the crowd was perfect, slowly returning to anonymity.
More people should watch this. Hero!!
Everyone should watch this!
I am crying, again and again. Thank you Mr.Winton.
What a true gentleman
Saving a child is the most amazing thing anyone can do
Respect to you sir

What's very intriguing is how he not only saved children but how he saved their future progeny. Decades later a baby being born so far removed in a completely different country literally exists because of this man. Thats legacy that can never go away
he is a such a good man...❤
Pipi Long yes, a man who lives and makes the best out of his time, dignity and also his own wealthy background , which is really really hard to achieve :)
I don't get how almost 100 people have disliked this video... this is perhaps the most heartwarming thing on the internet! Most heros thankfully do get the recognition they deserve :)

he died in treblinka gas chamber during the holocaust with 192 judes orphans. he decied to go with them from warsaw getto and die among them because the kids was soo scared . Sir Nicholas Winton was a great hero and beautiful man but you cant just said that he is the only one and best ever because there was hundret thausand heros like him

Sometimes filming encourages others to do the same. Unfortunately, sometimes there's also the attention side
