    I love your emphasis on collar sleeve it is a very largely effective guard and in my opinion should be taught as frequently as you preach it as the main gi jiu jitsu attacking position

    Great stuff, Jonathan! I love collar & sleeve. Particularly like your detail (when/why/how) of transitioning from DLR to Lasso. Looking forward to your future posts on this guard.

    Do you have any tips when playing collar sleeve and your opponent grabs your pants and sprawls? I have a loop choke I can get sometimes and collar drag, but my collar drag doesn't feel strong and I feel out of position.

    Hey Jon! Is there any chance you can shoot a new video about collar sleeve, covering the separation of Elbow to Hip connection. Its not a secret that the main focus of collar sleeve is throwing Omoplatas and Triangles, but some big dudes posturing up and kinda bumping their hip into their elbos is kinda annoying. Thank you in advance

    Hi,
    1. Great videos
    2. What's Your option (when playing collar & sleeve) when oponent just squats very low (on both feet) and bends back; this is the one kind of defense I have problem with

      Paweł Czuga You May need to transition out to cross guard where you go cross sleeve grip and underhook a leg or you could also go back to double sleeve then try to off balance or work underneath. If you message me on IG or Messenger and send me a video with the position I can make you a short video back.

    Hi Jon, I just wondered why you don't switch to rdlr if he stuffs your leg rather than (or as well as) switching to lasso?

  • @camronmaynor1204

    What are some ways you like to deal with the passer with a far pant leg grip? (Leg opposite the lasso).
    Thanks

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  3 роки тому +1

      I usually switch to double sleeve or I can keep chasing Omoplata ever if they grab the pant leg

    Question about stopping the hand looping out in lasso.
    If I'm keeping my knuckles behind my thigh I can maintain lasso but when I have to push on the should with my foot to regain the leg that's stuck I tend to lose that knuckle to thigh connection and often times the lasso all together.
    Is there a trick to push on the shoulder/body while maintaining a tight lasso?

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  6 років тому +1

      Amr Ghoneim if you are in Collar Sleeve and they loop out during the lasso you can kick your left leg out wide and pull the sleeve grip tight then relasso you can usually suck it back in. If that doesn’t make sense message me on IG or Facebook and I can make a video for you.

    • @maroutyII

    Nice stuff.. what do you do when you have your foot on their hip and if the opponent squats back heavily (like if they are taking a crap) being tight with the knees and elbows, and also they are prepared if you try to grab the leg with the sleeve grip to do a single leg takedown, thanks! hope this was clear

    Great video. Yesterday while rolling I lost the 2nd hand grip when I was doing the De la riva, and I remembered this video as my opponent was starting to put my far leg in between his feet. I pulled his collar and did the lasso then went for the omoplata. More videos on the collar grip options will be great. Thanks a lot!

    As always awesome content Jon. Two questions I had:
    1. I was wondering if you could do a video on how to really torque your opponents posture and free the arm that you have a grip on, or maybe a counter to when your opponent tucks their arm in? I've been playing a lot of collar sleeve and having fun w it, but I find w some of the bigger stronger training partners, once they decide to hide that arm and keep their elbow tucked in tight, I have the different controls in place, but I just can't seem to create the awkward broken posture or get that arm out and I get stuck, until I get passed on my weakside. (I'm practicing the reaction of getting my lasso in quicker as you mentioned in this video).
    2. Another question I figure I'll throw in, is what is the difference between having a delariva hook in versus putting my foot on their hip? When I put my foot on the hip I feel like I have more distance control/tension, but when i've tried putting in the delariva hook in, I feel more vulnerable since they're closer in.
    Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Could you go over some options with this when they are in combat base, leading with their right leg?

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  6 років тому +1

      Eddie I would probably try to go to deep dlr there or switch to cross sleeve and go sit up guard. Can try to cover it in a video.

      diabolic42090 I usually switch the guard to cross sleeve when they go on both knee if they are being difficult with tight elbows.

    the damn knee cut is always the thing that has been ending my de la rive with collar sleeve :( so hard for me to elevate them when they stuff my non de la riva leg. I stick my non de la riva leg behind their butt and try elevate them but they always feel heavy!

      That's what your lasso is for

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  6 років тому

      jschapir yeah you won’t be able to elevate when they trap it with the collar sleeve grips. That’s more practical when you are playing classic dlr with the ankle grip and collar.

  • @josealvarez6187
    @josealvarez6187 6 років тому +1

    I play collar sleeve a lot and one thing I hear a lot about how important lasso is. Problem is I'm not sure how to use the lasso as an effective game/guard retention tool. Seems like everything I see on the lasso is just one sweep or an omoplata, not an effective game. Could you shed light on how to effectively use the lasso?

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  6 років тому +1

      Jose Alvarez excellent question! Realistically I should have gone in depth on the lasso before covering this position. What I showed here should function to help when they trap your leg but for sure I will do a more in-depth breakdown of the lasso in general. When I play with the lasso I like to leave the foot on shoulder area and not go through with it so I can transition faster. If you play through with it you have far less options. I will do a video on it soon.
