I've never done this but just finished Painted Bricks shawl with icord and then cast-on Slipstravaganza with this method. I'm pleased to report success on my first attempt 😁
I love your teaching style and all you create is amazing! Thank you for sharing your talent and showing the samples and making it seem easy!! You are THE BEST!!
I’ve seen this but thought it was going to be really complicated. You made it look so easy and have given me the confidence to try it, thank you so much 😊
Thank you! I just started your Brioche Soundwaves & I’ve never knitted I-cord so I was nervous when the pattern called for it. This video was so easy to follow & you explain everything so well that between this video & your excellent written descriptions in your pattern I’ve expanded my knitting horizons today on several new applications 🙂
You are so inspiring with your comments and easy to do methods. I would like to be able to bring these little snippets of learning to life. I would love to have your confidence with colors, shapes and patterns but maybe I will just do me and go wild gracefully. You enjoy doing you, very talented man.
Thank you for your excellent videos, which I love! You're such a great teacher, and your voice always calms me and makes me happy. Your enthusiasm is so contagious and inspiring. I-cord cast-on is one of the few instances where I use double-pointed needles (two), because instead of moving stitches, I can just slide them to the other end of the needle, and knit the next row with the needle I just emptied. It just seems faster to me in my knitting.
Thank you so much for these very specific instructions. My pattern called for this cast on, and your video really showed all I needed to see. Thanks again!!!
Love i-cord!! I do about 20 & place markers.. Heck....I know it's weird, but I knit scraps into i-cord & then have started a rug... Lovin' even more that you have weekly videos!!!!
If I am doing an I cord cast on, I use double ended needles and just slide the stitches to the other end rather than having to transfer the stitches back. And I put a marker in each cast on stitch so I know exactly which strand of yarn I want.
OMG THANK YOU! I have some short DPN's that I really love and did not think of this while spending extra time with my sharp needle, meaning I'm needing to watch I don't split my yarn in the change over, while awkwardly dragging my longest circular needle loop, which I don't need till I pick up the stitches across the extra long icord (starting at the long side of a shawl). I've only just started and you've helped me save some fiddly time.
I just love you! Tell us your knitting journey story. I saw you on kristy glasses channel when you were collecting and sorting sheep. I wished i was there helping. You seemed like a superior friend.
What a terrific teacher you are! Your cord cast on method works beautifully. I wondered, though, why - instead of slipping the knit stitches back to the left needle, you don’t slide them to the opposite end of the right needle and then turn that needle around and resume the knitting of icord stitches? Anyway you go, THANKS!!
Ah, so easy! Thank you! I'm going to try this cast-on method to make my project look closer to what I'm making, instead of what the picture in my pattern shows. Technically, it just says, cast-on x amount.
Biiitch, that "Pick up and k3 sts along the I-cord CO edge" in your painting honeycombs jacket really confused me 🤣🤣🤣 This vid really helped, thanks!! 💜💜💜
Oh thanks, you saved the day, I did not understand my pattern at all for an I cord cast on😕(not yours) you explained that so well, I'm New to knitting!!
Me trying to figure out how to work this in some mirror or flip it in my mind since I'm left handed: 😵😱 Great instructions as always, gonna get started on my mohairino medley now! Love your personality and your patterns!
This is such a beautiful cast-on! It would make a lovely cast-on for a slouchy beanie! Is there any way to join this in the round without it looking sloppy?
I find it easier to use 2 DPNs and slide the 3 sts from left to right, while changing hands on the needles. That way, you can start knitting an icord from the very first row, which makes the icord even nearer.
So I am wondering if this cast on could be done in stripes and instead of increasing, just knit in the round? Is it a bit stretchy like the I-cord cast-off??? I am making a baby sack and thought it would be a great start! Thank you!
Very fine, I love it! But: to make it more easy and, btw, faster, I use short needles, DPNs e.g., while knitting the I - cord. Why? Cause: I can slide the stitches while knitting to the other side of the needle and knit along. It's easier, more like doing yoga or ommm while knitting. I'm a lot faster. What do you say about it? I knit with Chiaogoo needle set twist, the red one and the blue one. There are 2'' - needles. I put 2 with an adapter together so I can get a tiny, tiny needle. I only need one :) the other can be how long you have one, there you needn't slide anything. So my needle I've the stitches on are 4” and a few mm's. It needs less than 1/4 of a second to slide and turn the needle, I don't loose any stitch, and I'm as fast as the wind not thinking the I - cord cast on is so longlasting , NO! It's superfast and easy, too! I'm disabled in my hands so that doctors always think I can't knit anymore - but they say it since nearly 7 years. I can and I use every.single.idea. to make it easier. What works for me may work for others, too. So this is why I so full of words tell it to you. Perhaps you can show my idea at a short video? I'd be proud and happy to have helped to make wonderful knitting easier and amazing when it seemed to be a bit boring to do the same a long, long cast - on through. Any answer would be great, like your vids all are! With all my loving heart Tabea Conny L.
I would pick up stitches first so you have live stitches on your border and then work an I-cord Bind Off. I will share some I-cord bind off videos here later this month. :)
Oh Stephen you have given me enthusiasm to continue trying to create far better knitting than I have done in the past. Thankyou!
What a FABULOUS teacher you are Stephen... thank you ❣️🤗

50 plus years of knitting and I've never tried this. Think I'm getting the hang of the cast on but can't fathom out how to get the edges to match!
Correct . It's perfect
Nunca aprendí con 2 agujas, espero aprender contigo. Desde colombia. Aunque soy venezolano.

Hi Stephen can you please tell me about your KAL? I want to join. Thank you.
So I am wondering if this cast on could be done in stripes and instead of increasing, just knit in the round? Is it a bit stretchy like the I-cord cast-off??? I am making a baby sack and thought it would be a great start!

Yes you are
Plesae please please do a tutorial on the penguono. want to do it so bad, but unable to take the first step
Grazie👍
For I-Cords I use double pointed needles
That's a great idea!!
Is there a pattern for the hat in the video?
How would I go about using i-cord as an afterthought border?
I would pick up stitches first so you have live stitches on your border and then work an I-cord Bind Off. I will share some I-cord bind off videos here later this month. :)
