I had those on my 2012 electric glide I thought they sucked. Coming into the corner and hit a little bump the whole bike with jump sideways. In Sturgis in 2018 I met Terry cable , he’s a flat track racer he builds his own shocks and now he builds them for harleys. Put 3000 miles after Sturgis . I’ve been to Canada by way of Montana down through Idaho and Washington, Oregon and back to California these things are a dream come in the corner no jumping sideways in a corner
Cool. Yah, we haven't ever had that problem with these at all. Maybe too stiff of spring or improper sag for you? We ride very hard and cross country with these and I have many videos of taking corners hard. No such issues. Thanks for sharing.
I love the stock air shocks. In fact I have a 2019 RK Special that I took off the HD spring shock and bought an air shock set up from a older street glide. I love the softer ride. My 2015 RK has the original air shocks and I never had a problem with them. Great vid for those who want to put these type of shocks on.
So, I wrote to Prorogressive as follows: I just purchased the 944 shocks and have watched quite a few review videos and a couple of installation videos and many are saying to install these 944s upside down with the rod side up and bell side down. What do you say? Answer: For this shock it can be either, the reason someone would mount the adjuster at the bottom is if you have a clearance issue with the bell, since these models use the top shock mount for accessories like tour pack or sissy bar, if you don’t have any clearance issues you can run the bell at the top so its easier to adjust once you remove the bags. Just FYI if you go on progressives website and look up the instructions or just look at a picture of these shocks you will quickly discover this clown is telling people to install them upside down....
@@RyanUrlacher hey dude you may want to correct your video. Did you even look at the instructions progressive supplies or look at progressives website? You are telling people to install them upside down! Improper installation voids the warranty.
I believe progressive says initial measurement with with no load, tire in the air to get first measurement, not on the ground unloaded. Sorry that’s was Ohlin that said to raise the bike back tire off ground to get full extension.
Hi Ryan, great videos and can you Just give a definitive answer or best suggestion that you would recommend!! Wich is the best shock that YOU would recommend to us?! Thanks
Thanks a lot for this video. Makes it look pretty simple to install. I'm on the fence about Legend or the mid range Progressive shocks to replace my Street Glides Air.
So I took 2015 FLHXS to my trusted shop and told him I wanted 944 series. He went and ordered and installed 944 Ultra lows. I didn't realize this until I got home and went through the paperwork. I called him up and asked why he would install something that would lower my bike 2". Especially since I scraped both of my stretched bags just pulling up the apron on my driveway. I have been riding my bike long enough to know that I normally wouldn't have scraped. Even though I trust this guy, he told me straight up that even though he installed 944 Ultra lows, that my bike is not 2" lower.... I feel like I am being taken for an idiot.
Thanks for the video - hopefully someone can answer this - if you replace the rear shocks, lower the rear by 1" - do you need to adjust anything on the front suspension or do you have to adjust the direction of the headlights as I think they'd be slightly tilted up (???) by lowering the rear and keeping the front the same. Not sure, but looking for the answer before I commit to doing these on my FLHTK. - thanks!
I have these on my 2012 Road Glide. Mine are installed with the bell part on top with the adjuster on top. So opposite of what you showed. Do I need to flip them?
Nope. Your good, It actually doesn't change anything regardless of how you mount them. Just different years/models are different. It is about how the preload adjuster collar is accessible.
Hi Ryan. I have a question for you since Progressive has not been too helpful. I have a 2019 Road Glide and I weigh in at exactly 250 so with boots and vest I am around 260. I purchased the Ultra Touring heavy duty since I also ride with my wife. Setting up the shocks I am at the first line and I can only get like .75 inch of sag. Do you suggest I go as far as I can go and then back it off a little or at my weight on the heavy dutys do you think .75 is all I will get?
Hi David. I have the EXACT same issue as you. Same weight and sag. I ended up buying the standard springs separately and the tool to change the spring from Progressive. Night and day difference. The HD springs, to me, should be if you are in the 300-350+ weight range w/ or w/o passenger. Hope this helps. My system is really nice now.And I only have it tightened up to the 2nd line on the shock. So I will be good with my passenger too. On a ride where it will be multi day and have lots of gear and passanger, I’ll put the HD springs back on. It’s less than 20 min total time to do this.
Hi Ryan, do you know if I can purchase the springs separately? I picked up a used King with 944’s and the springs aren’t working for my weight with a passenger.
Great video Ryan. I am power coating all my chrome currently and putting Progressive Monotubes in up from. Been wondering how this will perform compared to the newer shocks on the 2018 touring. Great install info, hope to hear more on how they ride.
The manufacturer instructions actually say to do that for this particular application. Shocks like this can be installed either way. Doesn't matter and they perform the same. In this case, they recommend it to keep the pre-load adjuster collar on the bottom for easy adjustment purposes. If it was up top it may run into the fender strut and be difficult to turn.
I'm sure they ride great. Much of motorcycle suspension feel is subjective to each rider. I am just personally not a fan of air suspension. Many like it though. The systems just eventually end up leaking etc.
I had the 944's I wasnt that impressed way to stiff of a ride . I switched to arnott air ride , I dont know if you ever tried them but although alot more expensive., worth the investment
They come in 3 different stiffness levels dependent on how much load you'll be carrying. Yes, if you get too much spring rate for your application it can be stiff. That's the same with any rear suspension ou there. There are many many shock companies for sure. Each to their own.

He's gonna be sorry that he got the heavy duty ones. Mine was so stiff I changed the springs out to standard duty. I weigh 240 lbs and couldn't get close the the 1" sag. Good news though the springs are super easy to change out.
Yah, he's actually very happy with the heavy duty for his riding situation and normal load. Each rider will have to choose their situation and what stiffness.
@@RyanUrlacher I saw you got them to adjust. That's awesome. Mine were ok with just me but once I compressed them with passenger the bike rode like a hard tail. The springs were $46.00 free shipping so there cheap and easy to replace by the user
I enjoy your videos. But I will say I love my air shocks I ride to up and I like to fine-tune my ride. I don’t like to have to pull the bag to adjust the shocks. I like full range of motion for my shocks. Lowering a bike you just lose travel and clearance. I heard the progressives are good . I carry a pump with me and my wife or you wouldn’t believe the stuff I have to carry. She wants bought a concrete gargoyle like 80 pounds that I put in my tour pack. It was cold we were loaded. LOL yeah it’s nothing for me to pull the pump out at a gas station if I don’t hit full range of motion i’ll take a half a pound out or add. Pull my bags off would be a pain for fine-tuning. Do you enjoy your videos thank you. I support the blue
Rock on! Thx for watching. Yah, you can do the same with these 944 shocks as shown in the video. You can make a quick adjustment on the fly depending on your load. You just turn the collar with your hand and you don't have to carry a pump.

will this work on a Fatboy lo 2013?
Very nice video Ryan. Thank you. If this lowers the rear one inch, any impact on the front’s handling?
No, not that we've noticed at all.
It would make it more stable at speed as the rake and trail will both be increased. On the flip side it will take slightly more effort to turn.
Just curious, what reasoning are you using to mount the shocks "upside down" from the recommended orientation from the manufacturer of the shock?
