I was fortunate enough to get a Decker Terrier puppy about 3months ago They aren't that common in my area Infact, the guy I got my baby from had to get the male from out of state after being on a waiting list So far, I'm soooooo happy that I found her ❤
Love the video, you did an excellent job with Tug. I have a Decker female Eli Brown's Kennel in KY. She is a joy and very smart. Best most loving dog I have ever had.
First of all, a good trainer doesn’t continue to give a cue (“down”) over and over again if the dog fails to do the behavior. Instead, you use a lure (treat) to put the dog in a down and praise. It will speed up the response to the cue. Second, no e-collar (he mentioned the dog needed discipline in the beginning) is warented. Using force free and positive methods create a more reliable dog, and strengthens the bond between handler and dog. Teaching impulse control with games (I like to use the flirt pole or a tug) is a great way to get your dog to listen with distractions. Learn canine body language and use it to your advantage in communication and throw out all the aversive tools and have actual fun teaching your dog. I have several decades of experience in behavior and veterinary medicine and haven’t found a dog yet that didn’t do wonderfully this way, including my own Belgian Malinois, Dobermans, Jack Russell Terriers, Corgis, dachunds, and Irish Wolfhound.
Rat Terriers and particularly the Decker are very sensitive dogs and extensive use of Shock Collar could be detrimental to spirit of dog, understand why folks like to but on RT and particularly the DHRT you can do great harm to spirit of dog...got to be cool with those. My Decker is a headstrong pup and it took quite a lot of work to get him to understand the training and to take it to heart. Good luck.
I dont believe in shock collar training. We had our rat terrier trained at a k 9 family training unit with us their. she trained in a harness. as a puppy when she was old enough to be trained. Our rat terrier learned fast. Of course. we were also training her in between classes ourselfs twice a day for 10 to 15 minutes. The class 1 hour long for 6 to 8 weeks long. She is well trained and listens.
How can. I get in touch with you I need help with my rat terrier she has a mind of her own & she doesn't listen to nothing I say I cant let my dog off of the leash she will run away & never come back I tried that before the animal shelter called me saying we got your dog so I had to go down to the shelter and pick her bad butt up
I don't care for e collars. I can maybe see it with a super focused independant dog. There is never a need with rat terriers. They are so loyal and eager to please, if you clarify the communications, they basically fall in line.

Don't be fooled, shock collar on.
Never hid the fact that we are Ecollar trainers. Please share a video of your training abilities. Thanks
