Cobalamin - “one small step for man, a big “stepper” for mankind”.
A complex important subject, there is bound to be different perspectives, med students/ physicians really need to study this
Excellent presentation. Thanks.
Could you please provide me with references for this lecture
In studying this, I've found a lot of conflicting information, and your overview is the most thorough I've found thus far. :) However, there is one conflict I've found here regarding cblC. This study, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19447654, indicates that cblC, encoded by MMACHC, is actually involved in the decyanization & dealkylization of R-cobalamin. It also indicates that cblD, encoded by MMADHC, is part of this process. The summary doesn't indicate where in the cell this takes place. Is it possible that these proteins are involved in both processes? For what it's worth, I've read that a Vitamin B2 derivative is largely responsible for conversion of Cob III to Cob II, but not sure of the accuracy of that. If time permits, I'd appreciate some clarification on this. I'm pretty close to having a fairly accurate and thorough B12 pathway.
