Thumbs up guys. The thing that I find amazing about Tone Talk is how compelling is it. I see the duration time, and say "no way I will seat thru it all" and then I find myself tied 3-4 hours watching it all. These are documentaries!
JCU what an amazing post! Thank you for saying that and for watching. We really appreciate you taking the time to watch the show. Come to the show tonight live with Pete Thorn and John Suhr part 2! 9pm EST.
I love Henning. What everyone wants these days is honesty. We've all had enough political jargon and media nonsense and force feeding us products we don't want. Henning is an awesome human and I'm so glad you have him on here. And he is completely correct about nobody caring about the specs about shit. I know it sounds like he is joking sometimes but he is absolutely right in my opinion. After you watch 10 or 20 or more drive pedal reviews and play a few of your own in different amps. You're done. You need not anymore information again bout what tone knobs do and what they sound like. We all know it all sounds different with our own rigs and setups no matter what the piece of gear is.
As someone who is new to the world of making UA-cam product demos myself, this episode is full of gold. Henning has answered a lot of questions I have here. See you guys at NAMM in January!
As much as Henning gets flack for being honest about gear or pay endorsements, etc. the guy makes an impact in several other areas. His gear demos may be long but they are always on point. He's the orchestrator of GuitCon which was awesome to watch the guitar UA-camr's together in one place. The videos were awesome and I found other channels I had never seen before. Great show as always. This channel should and will be huge some day just like the Sixx Sense Channel.
This is probably one the most informative channels with anything related to amps an guitar I have seen. Well hosted and great questions. Even when you all go on a piss up. :) OH By the way i never listen to any demos on you tube via phone always through my studio monitors ( event`s)
Great show! Henning does the best guitar gear demos out there. I also purchased the new Friedman BE-50 as soon as I saw it on Sweetwater. Finally a true 3-channel amp by Friedman! I have the DS mini and that is one amazing amp! Just hate the 1 channel limitation. As far as price goes.....look, if you are looking for a rock / blues amp there is no other amp that come close to Friedman. Just Dave's Master Volume alone is amazing. To be able to play at reasonable home studio volumes and still maintain the huge sound the Friedman is know for is simply amazing. In my opinion I look at a Friedman amp as an investment. It's the last amp I'll ever need for what I do.
let me tell you why what Henning Pauly says makes sense......when I start to shop for a piece of gear. I have to make every dollar count and sometimes its hard to find the gear i might be interested in at places I can reasonably drive to. So...if i think...i wonder if the new freidman amp works for me in the need i have.....if I'm going to drop that kind of money on an amp...I need to know how it sounds and so I'll hit a video up...as many as i can and check it out. I don't buy gear without watching a couple videos about it and i know i've talked to other people...basically all of them who play.....who do the same thing. it has major value and it sells your gear. It's that simple.
I have started buying pedals since I started watching Henning's channel by chance (although not necessarily products shown). And I am primarily an acoustic player...
1:52:45 Here's another suggestion I would love to see: What is Ampete would build a new switcher with actually 2 inputs, 8 amps and 8 cabs and with FX Loop... and then each input could pick any of the 8 amps and cab, and the other input could pick any of the other 7 amp left and cab. Of course, both input couldn't use the same Amp and Cab in the same time, but the switcher would also allow to be use for people that want to use Two Amp in the same time for Clean/Dirty, or for Wet/Dry, etc... many kind of use for people out there. And for GuitCon, it could be use for having two players picking any of the 8 potential Amp in the room's rack... that should be more than enough to cover everyone taste and need. And of course, each Amp would be seen in each video, even if they wouldn't be used. If Ampete would be this kind of switcher, it would be on my purchase list, that's for sure... because I can't find any switcher right now that can do just that. My 2 cents!
57:25 Just a thought: maybe it would be nice to know what he would have on his pedalboard and maybe few people out there, manufacturers or even some youtubers that would want to get rid of a pedal could just offer them to him; that way he could just rebuild his pedalboard as a "compensation" for his hard work... as said, it's just a thought!
I love amps. Have a great collection. I also love modelers. Have the UAD, Line 6 and Amplitube stuff. As a weekend gigging guitarist that cannot have an amp on-stage I give my amp to the sound tech who whisks it away to some iso cab or backstage room and from there I am at the mercy of well-intentioned but untrained sound guys. Last week my high-end amp rig sounded so bad in my in ears I asked the tech to let me take a look at it. They had a $20 radio-shack small diaphragm condenser on the grill pointed straight at the dust cap. That's when I decided to break out my Line 6 POD xt Live and make the sound techs job easier. No mic, room or cab to worry about. And you guys must have better ears then I because other then the drive models, I think even my older xt live sounds good and I enjoy playing through it.
I've subscribed and unsubscribed to HP's YT Channel so many times. But seeing his involvement in the GuitCon event and this video has me re-subscribing. It's good to hear him even though he pisses me off. I think the main reason is because I might be as big of an A$$ as he is sometimes. And you know reflections can be kind of frustrating. Anyway, great interview as usual!
I really don't get why it would be competition between gear related youtube channels. It isn't TV that you may have two shows at the same time and you need to choose one. At youtube you choose WHEN to watch, so I watch everyone. I love, HP42, Know you gear, TTK, Pete Thorn, Pixy, etc. If I want an opinion about some gear I need to watch several videos to make one. I bought several guitar gear based on youtube videos. It's specialy usefull when you can't test at a guitar store by yourself. So I would say to Henning, don't worry about that.
Main reason to avoid 4 hour long live podcasts? You, as a guitar guy, say things like "I like Hanson better than Van Halen" ha You're still great Henning!
1:00:00 funny, that's also exactly what I do... I have ideas and share them just hoping they get made for everyone to have "better" products. I also had few ideas and design already for switchers, I'd love to compare Heining's thoughts for once...
Guitcon was amazing and print is completely dead. I didn't know who Henning was before but the guy did a great job. The only youtuber I didn't subscribe to was Jason's channel strictly because of the TK video. As to the power of UA-cam, I bought a mini Dirty Shirley with a 112 from Sweetwater simply because of UA-cam videos... and it's amazing. BTW I love the long videos!
Hey guys while Hanson is in no way as good as Van Halen you should check out the stuff they have been doing for the last 10 years. Took the wife to their Sept.17 concert in St. Petersburg(Tampa) Fl. and I was blown away at how much I enjoyed it. the crowd was 75% 30-40 y.o. women but they were amazing musicians.
So im brand new to Tone Talk. While id heard OF the show, id never checked it out, till a couple weeks ago. Absolutely love the show & have been straight up binging on these episodes. I'm also new to Henning. Instantly won me over (on his own channel, a few weeks prior to checking out TT) but I've gotta say, the EVH/Hanson thing is fkn mind blowing to me, if he's serious. Surely he's just trolling, tho, huh..Sorry for the long ass comment that prob nobody will read. Cheers tho fellas. Liked, sub'd, hooked. Pure gold. I bet I've seen 15 episodes or more, already. Keep it up 🤌🏻🤘🏻 PS This doesn't change my being subbed to Henning, either. Just to clarify
I messed up by saying tone talk because I was preparing in my mind to do that high “METAL!” Voice. 😂😂 I love when Henning does that. I pulled it out finally. 😀
Nice to see the real Henning. A lot of the videos I've seen him in, he comes across as kind of annoying, and lacking substance. He's actually a smart, observant, and thoughtful guy.
doesnt really make sense when he says, if Pete T doesnt review somethng, u know he doesnt like it. There's too many pedals + products for that to work. + some are already heavily covered by others. Pete doesnt review the Soldano SLO or Bogner Helios amps, 4 example. doesnt mean he doesnt like them.
Interesting seeing this for the first time now ... times/circumstances changed big time. See Hennings video here: ru-clip.net/video/uzk9cd9bYzs/i-quit-guitcon.html
How about suggesting NAMM offer 2hours every day (or what ever time and days needed to get good coverage) for manufacturers to be interviewed by UA-camrs before the crowds arrive. Having NAMM pay for youtubers travel amount depending on number of subscribers. If you show the manufactures ROI data I am guessing they would be supporting you as well as the retail market if you can show increased interest and increased sales.
3:12:14 - I would DEFINITELY try to talk my Vestry Members into buying me a Hairy Brown Eye. I should... They don't question my audio purchases. That's going to be a doosey of a receipt to submit.
Thanks for the show Dave and Marc, you guys are always great. Way too much navel gazing and arrogance for me to listen to for almost 4 hours from Henning unfortunately. Please bring back John Suhr again soon :)
I will publicly apologize to Henning; I will do it here because I do believe he blocked me on his channel and therefore wouldn't see this comment. I was probably an ass and call him on some of his intentions and I was wrong. I will still take him any time for debate to explain him why I think he's wrong about his Kemper argument, but I was wrong to call him on his Fender Mustang GT video... Since I never been shy to tell things the way I see it, I have to stick to this principle, including for myself. So: I present my sincere apologizes to you Henning, I retract my statement, I was an ass and I was wrong on that!
What you need is a deal with the manufacturers to do honest reviews...paid in advance. If it is good you post it. If not, you provide a detailed report to the company so they can deal with, respond (if they want it posted), or use it for internal use. If you ever want us to respect a paid review, you need some such way to keep it honest and still offer a value for companies to use you as a proper advertising/marketing outlet, not a popularity contest or a payola game. #gitcon
Won't miss this, now that I found it. Been back through most of the old ones too. We should talk...you need some proper marketing...10,000 should be watching this! People don't know it exists...and I guarantee they'll want to know about this channel...time for some promotion, like through TTK and some of those guitcon guys...your subs will quadruple overnight! Thank you...something worth watching on youtube now! Damn...I learn things here!
I saw Van Halen years ago front row and they were not the most exciting live. It seemed to be going through the motions doing the same show every night. Compared to Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy and many many others, VH were good but not the most entertaining.
9pm EST.
Couldn't agree more. Hands down my favorite UA-cam content. The information shared here is priceless.
One of the funniest Tone Talks...thanks Mark, Dave, and Henning👍👍👍
I love Henning. What everyone wants these days is honesty. We've all had enough political jargon and media nonsense and force feeding us products we don't want. Rick Hollis im pretty sure Henning has the best namm coverage I have to watch all the namm videos cuz there are no music stores within 200 miles
As much as Henning gets flack for being honest about gear or pay endorsements, etc. the guy makes an impact in several other areas. His gear demos may be long but they are always on point. JamCave Studio Henning really is THE Man,...he made an huge impact on Gear Demos and kind of revitalized the whole Topic!
Thanks for answering my question guys. Great Show!
I have bought 3 pedals and sold 2 based on Henning's honest opinions! I trust his observations...
This is probably one the most informative channels with anything related to amps an guitar I have seen. Well hosted and great questions. Even when you all go on a piss up. :) OH By the way i never listen to any demos on you tube via phone always through my studio monitors ( event`s)
Frank Quinn thanks so much for this comment. We really appreciate you watching.
love it man. You do an amazing job getting this out. Just watching the video from Henning again
Great show! Henning does the best guitar gear demos out there. I also purchased the new Friedman BE-50 as soon as I saw it on Sweetwater. Finally a true 3-channel amp by Friedman! Home Recording Made Easy thanks for watching and we agree. The Friedman amps are among the best out there and worth the money
Fantastic episode. Thanks for all you guys do
Fun listen! Nice to know I’m not the only one who’s learned a ton of by accident spending the first half of my life chasing tone.
Haha!! The "solid shaft" quote made me spit my coffee. Thanks guys!!
Though I am sorry that I missed this at the time, it is great to see this as I complete my plans to overhaul my channel with gear lessons.
Ok. My opinion??? The Friedman gear is what I envisioned what a Marshall amp was supposed to sound like. The Friedman gear delivers the ooomph.
That ES-8 video i recorded them all and play them for 8 hours because its worth it. Henning does a great job. Hes become my goto place for gear.
The Smallbox is one of the best 50 watt amps available in the world. So so good
let me tell you why what Henning Pauly says makes sense......when I start to shop for a piece of gear. Jim O'Brien get a Friedman Runt 50 and use the emulated line out. No mic’ing headaches that way! It’ll sound fantastic too.👍🏼

Leo actually DID make a video with a guest solo from Phil but they did that after guitcon. I assume they probably connected there.

Henning make more guitars! I'll buy one immediately
Justin Espinosa thanks for watching!
henning you are so right!!!
Main reason to avoid 4 hour long live podcasts? You, as a guitar guy, say things like "I like Hanson better than Van Halen" ha You're still great Henning!
Imyourhuckleberry he can’t possibly feel that way! Lol thanks for watching
Great show as always!
Are you really talking about Hanson for this long!!!!! Thought it was a joke at first but Henning really likes them 🤣

What speakers in the Friedman 4x12 you plugged into HP?
0:25 "METTTTTAAAAAALLLLL!!"
55:21 Four days ago I turned 19. But Henning was close!
I messed up by saying tone talk because I was preparing in my mind to do that high “METAL!” Voice. 😂😂 I love when Henning does that. I pulled it out finally. 😀
Hey cheddar , still love ur channel. Hope all is well .
Henning is the You Tube Gandhi of Tone
Great show
jet black Thanks so much for watching
What's that RIFF company Henning talks about at like 45:50????????
Is there a podcast version of the videos?
yoman Bbqj Yes, this episode will be up on iTunes in 24 hours. All Tone-Talk episodes are up on iTunes podcasts. Thanks for listening!
Tone-Talk awesome !! found my new commute podcast :)
You need to edit the title to include the mystery special guest at Dave Friedman's, or at least to infer he is there
Ben Fentem we will be having Pete on again soon! He pops in a lot which is really cool of him

5k for your style videos no way think more like 20k. If it werent boring you should do corporate videos youd be able to buy even more amps.
JimijaymesGuitarist Thanks for watching!!
