What would the most unrealistic of managers like Mourinho/Zidane/Nagelsmann get out of Almiron, Burn, Longstaff, Schar, Joelinton?
They would need £150m that we can’t spend with FFP. And if we can spend that money- give it to Howe!
If Tonali and Barnes had been available all season this would all be a different story. If we had Willock, Joelinton, Pope and Botman fit all season we’d be absolutely flying.
Howe’s been so unlucky and has already proven he’s the right man for building a project.
We’ll win a trophy quicker with him than without!
Have to disagree. Once upon a time that would have been a backward step but now we're actually primed for that next big step. Personally I don't want to see it. I think Howe deserves to be backed for a while longer but I'm not convinced our owners are that sentimental.

See, to me all that you are saying seems totally bleedin’ obvious! Of course he should stay! Also, I personally don’t know a single toon fan who is saying that Howe needs to go. What’s more, none of the toon fans I know say they don’t know a solitary toon fan who wants Howe to be sacked. Conclusion? It’s just noise.
Howe brought in livramento, sat him on the bench for months, Hall a lb who he rarely plays even when the teams down to the bones, a number 6 who isn't an actual number 6 and barnes when he had gordon already on the left.
Not only should we question the summer business when we clearly needed a rw/forward and a propper number 6, we should also wuestion his decisons and subs even before all the injuries. Have we forgot all about his predictable gordon for barnes and isak for wilson on 65 minutes every game?
And thats before we question some of his in game management that have cost us dearly this season. I mean he continues to play trippier because he wants to play. Take him out til whatever it is is sorted. His losing streak and upcoming fixtures don't bode well for him.
Newcastle needed a full squad of healthy players to keep up with the demands and it’s been the complete opposite. Probably the most depleted squad in the premiership
Well said. Everyone acting like spurs and man utd have the same but our style of play demands a squad. It's works when we have a squad as shown most of Howes time here. We just need that 1 break and after that I'm confident of a strong 2nd half of the season

We overachieved last season . This season has taken its toll with its apsirational target of Europe Mid Week and PL weekends. Injuries of course impacted us but some changes are required and of course a Number 6 was a requirement prior to season starting . We have to be able to go to a different system and make changes dependent on availability of players. Its all part of progression which everyone has to learn from including all Fans , Management , owners etc. Every day is a school day as we strive to get up to dizzy heights of a regular top 6 side .
I actually can't wait for Murphy to return, he's so underrated. He has a fantastic right foot and what we are missing badly are right footed deliveries into the box, and he's also not afraid to use both feet. Miggy imo needs to be dropped asap imo because him always cutting in on his left and being so one-footed is becoming detrimental to the team

Murph is a top chap and badly missed right now esp ‘cos of Miggy being ineffective. Poor Migs, he’s just got found out. Credit to him for having to make teams apply themselves to the great he carried but he’s not only been found out tactically he’s just off it all around at the moment.

We played 8 games in December, Pope was injured in the first game. Games in January are hard, but we will only have 4. Training has effectively restarted and combined with some returners and less knackered first 11 we should improve month on month. 🤞

Followed this club for 40 years now & recent results aside this is still the best we have been in all that time imo. We have never been in such good shape financially & the building for the future has already begun here. We are blooding young superstars at a rate I have never seen before. We used to sell our top players (usually to Spurs) but now we will attract top players instead. Howe is the right man at the right time for this job, given backing & stability he will win everything for us... We will most likely lose at Anfield but best to look beyond that.
Craig would you ask Eddie why is Karius not getting a chance Especially with all those goals Dubravka has shipped in i just can't work out why we have 3 reserve keepers behind pope but only one is getting trusted even with all those goals being let in and why would we be looking at other keepers if we have 3 reserve keepers i just cant work it out and if there not good enough then get rid as there taking up precious places up and getting money for nothing

NUFC aren`t underachieving this season, they massively overachieved last. We must trust in the process and support Eddie Howe, I am convinced he is the man to bring long term success to the club but there will be a bump or two along the way, this is one. We are better with Howe than without him, we can`t let history repeat itself and hound out our best chance of success. Trust the process.

We have the same injury problems as several other Premiership clubs and as you say another run of injuries would be critical - so you would think that behind the scenes (FFP accepted) they must be looking at a few new players as an insurance policy... that said we are in a bit of a slump but we could pull a few results out of the hat in January. A thoroughly fair and reasonable summation Craig people need to realise how far we have travelled in such a short period of time. A combination of over producing and unreal injuries are to blame. I do hope Eddie Howe is given time the only criticism is the his tactics appear one dimensional and a good number 6 would help mix it up. Well done Craig great work keep it up

We miss willock so much he has a knack of getting the ball up the pitch even if nothing comes of it, it takes pressure off the defence for 20 secs or so

You have mentioned number 6 since US tour Craig, I have to believe with you, just see what difference Rice has made to Arsenal. I had hoped Dubravka would have improved like Lascelles and Murphy have but it’s not a coincidence we are shipping lots of goals although not just his issue but a downgrade from Pope so I would like to see De Gea. Don’t think we can spend a lot and this month will be tough but for me I am backing Eddie for the long term, there was always going to be a spell like this and he will learn more in the tough times so we need to support and retain him. It will for sure be a difficult month for us in terms of both signings and results, i have always maintained that we won't get back in the top four but we will get in the top six or seven. It's realistic for where we are at at this stage of our development, one thing we can't do is lose someone like an Ashworth to United, as that would kill our development as a club currently.
Eddie for me should get to see out his contract as he has earned that for what he has done with the team, we need to remember we wanted a team that tried not won and we have got that, maybe not all the time but for the main part that's what we got. We can still have a great season and winning at Sunderland or Liverpool would be a good start to that.
In terms of players incoming, i would take a Phillips as he is exactly what we need in that position, an experienced goalkeeper has to be up there as the two we have just don't quite do it right now. Only concern i would have with De Gea apart from his overall sharpness is the fact that when Pope comes back De Gea will still want to be number one and we can't afford to have any disruptions to our dressing room right now.
Other positions that are covered for me anyway are a young versatile forward, my ideal one is Kubo from Real Sociedad, now whether that is realistic is another thing, but for me his style is perfect for the league and our team, he fits perfectly and he is young so he would provide good competition for Miggy. Overall i think if we get the right players in we will have a good rest of the season.
Totally agree with the comment on competition. Look back at Laurent Robert, how often did he go missing but still kept his place as he had no competition for his place
Good vlog Craig, I think for me a change in team selection would help, perhaps dropping BDB to the bench for Tino...however, I'm not Eddie! In terms of incomings, I'd like to see a right winger who perhaps can also play Centre Forward, at the back we need some pace in Centre Half. It'll be a tough window, I'm not expecting much in the way of incomings due to FFP...summer will be crucial in terms of shifting on a few players. I’ve loved the vids of 2023 Craig. You might be the Alan Robson (the voice of reason) of the podcast world ha ha .All the best for 2024 . So bit of an odd take from me here as I like to think I’m a realist. But the way Newcastle united are we can expect the unexpected. So my crystal ball says you will be doing a video in 1 months time talking about how January went much better than expected. I think we will beat Liverpool and the mackems and go on an unbeaten run with some well earned draws and a couple more wins in January. This is a crazy take I know, but if we can underperform and lose to Luton and Not. Forest, then Newcastle being Newcastle we can surprise every one and over perform in these next 4 or 5 fixtures. If I’m right give me a shout out end of January 😝. Craig, tons n tons of great times ahead for NUFC, imo we will push on second half of the season, loads of crazy scores kicking about over the festive period not just for us, look at Arsenal and Spurs last night, we are on an upward slope as a club, our owners want us to be up with the elite, and i think we already are to an extent and will continue to be so.
And a few nice signings or decent loans would be lovely in January.

I’ve said in previous comments that it’s a case of catch up regarding the commercial side of increasing revenues due to the previous ownership’s mishandling the money side of things, it could take up to 5 years to be able to show their wealth, all because of FFP. ⚽️⚽️
Excellent sumnary again craig. Personally i hope eddie gets to see through this tough patch. The club didnt sign enough players, eddie has performed miracles to get some of players playing at level to get us to champions league. However still the likrs of almiron nit good enough and eddie needs money to strengthen our wings and a number 6 to protect back 4. Eddie deserves that chance and to get players back from injury.
Craig. If they actually wanted De Gea and are concerned about fitness what was stopping them bringing him in, training and getting him up to speed to be able to hit the ground running and have him registered as soon as the window opened.
Firstly Craig, thanks from me, (Newcastle fan since 1968 but living in France since 2001) for your honesty and enthusiasm. A couple of thoughts. If money is tight, what chance is there of recalling players on loan? Also shouldn't we be giving more of the youth players a chance to shine? I'm not sure about bringing in de Gea. If they did, does that reflect the confidence they have in Karius? Anyway, your videos are much appreciated, keep up the good work...
We have had terrible luck with injuries this season. I don't think any of these were caused by too much intensity week after week.
We need to commit to Eddie regardless of how long this bad run goes on for (hopefully not much longer). Chopping and changing managers doesn’t help, sends you back. Klopp had a blip season last year with Liverpool, now look at them… ending the year top of the league.
I do think we need improvements in positions, such as RW. We need those special players who can change a game and we are short in those players. I do think we would benefit from a 6 also. Raphina could be a good buy.

I totally agree with your appraisal of our priorities. People banging on about a right winger probably forget we've got Willock, Murphy and Barnes set to hopefully return. Phillips and Ramsdale would be ideal loans for me. I think any cash we have may go towards a striker.
Regardless of a no.6 we should not be getting caught on the break when we are leading in a game,
Love the videos once again..for me a number 6, no 1 and a 9 are needed. Isak is not a number 9, hes just not in his best position with his back to goal and is best picking the ball up with the full picture of the opposition defence in front of him.
More players we bring in. More depth we have long term. Must be adding every window
Regarding our current players that you mentioned that need the challenge, I also think they just need a rest. I don't think Gordan needs a rest, if anything he's shown his best form during a time when there was no challenge behind him. I think he's just nursing a slight injury. And Isak was a prime example of someone we've had play through injury because there was no one else to play.
Almiron on the other hand is painful to watch, and though he may be carrying an injury, I also think that RW spot is our weakest position on the pitch.
Finding another potential top 4-6 manager is at best a crap shoot, while Eddie is going through a tuff period and has shown some weaknesses in player selection he’s gonna be a top 4 guy.

getting our long term injured players back is more important then making new signings. having said that Phillips and De Gea would be excellent additions in Jan. the summer window is the time to bring new players in. We desperately need a new RW and a young CF. Victor Boniface would be a perfect signing (next summer).

Hi Craig. You mentioned you were at the academy and played under John Carver. I was just thinking maybe we have met before in that capacity. I was at the Newcastle School of Excellence from about 1988 to 1993 and was then finally released. If my mind surves me correctly, John was at the club around the latter part of my time there. But I never trained at Benton grounds, my time was at the old Benwell site. Nevertheless, maybe our paths crossed. However, I was also a centre forward, so if I was in competition with you, I'd probably have known you!! Haha. Just on another note, Craig, when I was at the school of excellence, I was coached by a man called Stan Nickson. He was a fabulous coach. I wonder if you would know, with your connections, how Stan is doing? He must be well into his 70s by now. Hope he is well. Also, if you bump into John Carver at any time, tell him I was asking after him . Just mention Millsa or Darren Mills said hello. I also knew John from Montague boys football club, really nice man, always got on well with him. I also know one or two others pretty well who were at the club, like Lee Clark. I played under Lee at Walker Central for a couple of years just before he made it into the first team at nufc. I also did an advert with Alan Shearer on SJP back in the late 90s. I had to cross the ball to Alan and he had to chest it down and catch it on the volley and put it in the top corner. Memory I'll never forget. The only down side was there was about 500 extras in the Milburn Stan and every time I knackered the cross to Alan the crowd booed, haha. Great memories, though. Cheers Craig 👍
Well there wasn't much in that report craig or any other news coming out of the club to lift our spirits going into the new year. I'm in a rather pessimistic mood right now so i'm not expecting much at all in the jan transfer window which a lot of fans seem to be pinning their hopes on. As you intimated in your report i expect things to get a lot worse before there any signs of improvement. I just hope the club & the fans hold their nerve & stick with eddie howe because i'd think it would be a huge mistake to make him a causality of this torrid period. We will bounce back under eddie. The only question is will we be too far off the top 4 for it to matter this season. Cheers as always criag.
Cannot underestimate how important confidence is. At the moment, we look like a very unconfident outfit.
I think losing pope has been the main downfall of our December. Dubravka in goal is like having no one there at times which pope would have saved. All of a sudden the 1-0 and 2-0 we lost by may have well been 0-0.
Shhh, don't say that. Criticise Dubravka and Eddie from Tyneside Life will call you embarrassing and disgraceful. We are supposed to be happy that we finished 4th last season and not demand anything more.

Murphy if he was fit he would be a starter week in week out since that palace game he was sensational that game and his Workrate is fantastic so you don’t loose it will playing murphy
Murphy is nowhere near the level of Almiron. Give him 5 starts and I guarantee you'll want him dropped

We kinda lost three 6s and never replaced them (other than Bruno who was probably a 6 before) … admittedly Hayden & Hendrick weren’t up to standard and Shelvey pulled out the odd run of games.
I think the Liverpool game will inflict some serious damage to the team and with the game against Sunderland coming up this is a make or break period for Howe as if it goes badly I can see a change in management sooner rather than later

I honestly think the likes of Burn and Miggy and a few others have done what they can do at the club and will be phased out soon enough. Howe has given them their chance and for the most part they took it.

Howe’s being 9th after spending £443million with a Saudi chequebook doing a fine job.
Ashley’s Newcastle were finishing 10th-13th spending £0 net.

Let's be honest ..not many people were excited when Eddie was appointed. I'm sure they have been excited since his appointment. It's a season of 2 halfs ,lets see what happens .

We absolutely know Eddie is a brilliant manager.
We must stick with him.
Look how he has improved players.
He can't help loads of injuries, that would affect any team.
Is there a manager in the world that would do any better with half his squad out.
New managers would want new players, spending hundreds of millions like man u. and Chelsea has been proved to be the wrong approach.
We are at the start of a long journey.
This is a learning curve for all.
Success will come with Eddie as our manager.
It is crucially important that we stay loyal to him.

Teams do their homework on us and learn how to stop players like Gordon and miggy, its always about them losing form.

Eddie Howe's team selection and in-game changes are questionable. Why is Trippier still starting games after the disastrous month that he has had? You have a readymade superstar in Livramento on the bench.
Why did Trippier even play the full 90? You're trailing by 2 goals. Let Hall and Livramento (immensely attacking players) be your fullbacks. Show some character.
I have a problem with Howe's loyalty to his players. At the highest level, football is about winning. And to win, you have to be ruthless. Pep has put the likes of Mahrez, Foden, Sane, KDB, Gundogan, Fernandinho nall on the bench. Why? To win. Winning is the only thing that matters at the highest level. Klopp was really loyal to Henderson and Milner and that loyalty put him in the Europa League.
What do you think of Mancini, possibly Summer 2024? Howe to England perhaps? Mancini has been effectively taken out of the club market, waiting for Howe to go?
Disappointing to hear the Phillips deal isn’t close, he’s someone who could definitely improve the team this season
To be fair most of our transfer deals happened out of the blue, they'll be something going on behind closed doors

This sack talk is absurd and would be akin to sacking Robson. He is working with a lot of mid table players
I just can fathom how Eddie constantly negates the requirement for a CDM or a No.6 , everyone who understands football and follows the club closely can see that the formation in which we play it craves for a CDM which wouod provide much more solidarity and composure in the middield as well as allow players like Bruno to play with more freedom and intensity as he is not a natural CDM. I think a CDM , a RW and a GK would be an ideal transfer window for NUFC if we want to complete for European places this season.
With the greatest of respect, I just wish you junolists would ask the correct questions, i.e., why was Dan Burn started over Livremento ? Who was clearly pipped for pace, every time. Then, he subbed him when it was too late. Almiron has been terrible & needs dropoed same goes for longstaff. K k. "Buy better." The problem is Howe's favourites may be his downfal. He really is Mr. Predictable. All the great Manager's are roothless with their subs, when needs must. Never seen that with Howe ?like pep, even klopp when he changed it at the very end when they beat us at home. What is going on with Lewis Hall ?
Man City were lucky not to have had FFP for the first 3 or 4 seasons after Sheikh Mansour took over ownership - FFP & FSR are certainly slowing our progress.
In January & Summer transfer windows I think the spine of the team should be strengthened before any other positions - if FFP allows of course.
I dont see any more than 1 permanent and one loan coming in at best to be sincere,,players coming back from injury and on one cup of potential fixtures on top of league fixtures until the summer. Couple that with the January window being known for overpriced low availability for player transfers I think it will be a very quiet window for us.
I agree with you Craig regarding the obvious need for a genuine no. 6. And that last year was unique. Mostly we only played 1 game a week and of course there was a 6 week mid season break for the world cup. This helped reduce the impact of fatigue and injuries that our ultra high intensity /pressing style.
This was never going to be sustainable playing 2 or even 3 games a week as we have this season. The disappointing thing for me is that we have not developed a plan B. Eddie Howe has been in charge over 2 years. Why is there no plan B or was there no foresight into these problems?
Disappointed, ‘Yes’ but we still have 19 games to play. We have suffered with the injuries we have only 3 games in January let’s get our players fit then we can push on.

i agree about almiron longstaff and burn maybe will be players that will be replaced In the next few windows but I struggle to see why Gordon is in your list. He has 6 goals and is rated top in performances this season by many different outlets. He has some areas to improve as he's only 22 but I believe he has been a great signing and will be one of our top players.

When you go on about injuries and reoccurring ones, it begs the question how intense training is, and are they training like they're playing? Based on Howe's answers they train with high intensity... now I'd use the analogy of training a racehorse for a big race, you don't flog him everyday until raceday and expect him to perform at his best, you train him so he peaks on raceday... I don't see how this train as we intend to play with high intensity works in the long run as it leads to burnout.... it's common sense. And also when you look at different managers they tweak things every year to change their teams to get performances better ie Pep changing a Central defender to play in midfield to make up more numbers.... We don't even change Almiron to go and play on the left side of the pitch where he can actually use his left foot!!!!

and I dont care what anyone else says I know for a fact that dubravka is the main problem in our team right now...not having Pope in goal behind them, who they know will sweep up behind them has caused an unstability in the defenders and they are anxious every time the ball goes behind them or into our box. He is an absolute liability and when one on one he dives out of the way of the ball rather than make hinself big. Surely for woods third goal he knew which way wood was gonna gan after doing it only minutes earlier ???? He is hesitant on crosses and was the reason Trippier made that mistake at chelsea as he thought the keeper was gonna come and collect...we cannot rely on him till the end of the season surely ? Have you considered that it’s exactly because “all the top teams play with a 6” that Eddie doesn’t. If we simply do what they all do we will just be a 9th rate team either a pivot.
The fact is we do okay with a pivot. Eddie just doesn’t allocate one player to do it. They all are expected to do it. It isn’t always working….Yet. This has been happened due to our injury crisis plus it’s just new thinking.
