  • Are you looking to solve a CA18DET problem? Is your CA18DET engine not starting or running incorrectly? Or maybe you want to improve on your CA18DET by doing some common mods? How To Mod CA18DET, Is a video that I came up with after endless looking through forums, manuals, common issues and mod questions on Facebook groups. Kind of experimental, but wanted to gather most of the issues in one place. If you have CA18DET engine in your Nissan S13, here are some things you might want to look out for and hopefully will help you troubleshoot your car and do it yourself.

    Wifes had her 200sx for nearly 20 years now. Tuned to a reliable 245rwkw. I would add an oil cooler, delete the shitty CAS and replace with a trigger kit, convert to Audi coil packs, replace the junk old loom. Lots of people mistake the Temp sensors for causing their hard hot starts, however it is more often caused by a failing CAS. This only becomes apparent when tuning and seeing live data like on a dyno. The aging loom can also cause the temp sensor not to read or spike on occasion.

      My throwoutbearing is going out lol also i think i have oil leak somewhere, minor rust in passenger door and back quarterpanels.

    Built one for my RS13 back in the day 2005 ish. GT2871R with tubular manifold. CA18DE cams adjusted, steel rods and fully balanced bottom end. 300zx maf and 660cc injector AMW fmic etc. Made humble 408hp with 482Nm with 1.6bar and it's still alive with over 40k of occasional trashing. It really likes that you let them oils get to a temp before loading, and also very regular oil changes. Good engine, but you need to know what you are doing when building one. Not much room for bodge jobs.

    hey im having this one big issue with my ca18det and i cant find anyone who knows how to solve it if i send you the video of it would you be able to diagnose it

      just uploded this to show my issue , basically car shuts off while driving then turns back on

      @@haarisali6202 just checked it. It looks electrical to me. Also, does it shut off completely? Or it idles? Is it only while driving? Or when on park too?

      @@haarisali6202 Id probably start by swapping in another ecu for test. And then chase some more stuff, probably ground or loose connection somewhere

    Yes, and no. Lots to discuss about your collection of thoughts on this. I recently rebuilt a race engine, second dyno tune after bedding rings further we consistently made around 248-250kW at hubs at 20psi. Intiital dyno tune here: ua-cam.com/video/DUgN85Z1aFc/v-deo.html

      Yeah thanks for your comment. I have built and forged a CA for myself recently to. I did not intend this to be an absolute bible to everything. Just a vague guide that hopefully helps a person or two get their car going again / make a choice
