  • The end of "Farewell My Little Viking Part 2" where Artie tells Pete that he has to leave. This really bummed me out as a kid and is still pretty touching even today.

Mannnn I was about 6 years old when this episode came out. I was bawling my eyes out, my Dad picked me up and said "whats wrong?"...I said "Artie is gone forever Dad"
Later that year, my Dad dressed up as Artie for Halloween....I was beyond stoked

I never realized as a kid that Artie left halfway through the run of the show. For the longest time I thought this episode was towards the end. That's how much of an impact Artie had on me when I was young. The randomness of the episodes really makes you feel like he's been there the whole time.

Watching this again, I like that Artie points out that it's not just that Pete is growing up and needs to learn how to fight his own battles; It's also the more important point that there are other kids out there who don't have Pete's strength and need someone like Artie to help them gain it. Artie's done his job with Pete and done it well, and now he needs to move on and bring those lessons of strength and confidence to someone else in much more desperate need of it. It's similar to the ending of 'Toy Story 3,' with the toys realizing their work with Andy is complete and now there's another child (Bonnie) who needs them.

As a kid, I thought Artie just left because Pete had outgrown him and needed to learn how to fight his own battles. Now, however, as an adult, I realize there's more to it than that, as I can better understand what Artie explained to Pete: he was saying that there are other kids out there who need someone like Artie to help them learn courage and confidence and leadership, the way he taught those lessons to Pete. Heroes can't spend all their time with one person when there are so many others who need them. In my current job as a teacher's assistant for special needs children, I kind of do the same, and sometimes refer to some of my students as "My little Vikings."

Even though I was too young to cognitively follow most of the events in The Adventures of Pete & Pete when it originally aired, I always had a hunch that this show was something special. Artie had been one of my favorite characters, and it was sad to see him go, but he's one of those who transcended their medium. Like Hobbes to Calvin, Artie is out there somewhere getting into all sorts of new adventures with kids in their time of need. And I'm sure he's doing just fine.

yes, i wonder why so many people think he is a creep :-(
Why do you assume that someone can be a pervert just because he likes to spend time in the company of children, so, well yeah good to have such people in the eye just in case, but does not mean that someone has to be a perv, someone can just do not want to have their own children because he knows that he knows It does not suit to be a parent but could be good teacher, instructor or mentour , and Artie from this series meets many symptoms of a person from the spectrum of autism, I have Asperger myself, although according to the new medical nomenclature, it is called high functioning autism, but Elon also has it so I am in good, company :-)
Artie from this series placed somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of autism

Yeah, Artie feels like more of a timeless concept than a character on a TV show. As someone who grew up in the 90s and is now an adult, I realize that now I have the chance to be an "Artie" to other young kids; it's OK to be silly and fun, being jaded and pessimistic is lame. I wish I could somehow channel the animal spirit of a combination of Artie and Johnny Knoxville in my day to day life; just go all-in on being silly without worrying about what others think.

You might not be wrong... lol. I don't know who John Frusciante is though, nor what a 1/5 apartment refers to.
As for Emotional OD... not sure what to make of that exactly.
Maybe this has something to do with all the drugs coursing through my body...
haha. =P long live the 90s

90s and 80s TV shows were about fun and good things, back then censoring hadn't got the paranoia in people's heads and you could enjoy what you saw. Cartoons and non cartoons. Don't Eddie mcdoubt it 🐺

Actually, Pete beat Papercut with the help of his friends, that means he would still be defenseless if Papercut had caught him alone.

No, this was the middle of season 2 (of 3), so only roughly halfway through the series overall. Nona takes Artie's place in the opening credits for season 3. The final episode was "Saturday", which details, well, events for various characters on a Saturday: Big Pete tries to strike up a conversation with his barber, Ellen delivers pizza as a bunny, and Bus Driver Stu is stuck at a red light all day.

There was 1 more episode that season ("Yellow Fever", the only episode not to feature Little Pete), & then one more 13-episode season after that.

Soooooooooooooo much like Macaulay Culkin and Corey Feldman before him, Lil Pete simply got to old for Artie?
