Nick is 1000000000% correct about the influence that Madden the videogame has had on football thought. By simulating without stakes you could realize in real time the advantage to going for 2 when down 14, going for it on 4th and 3 at midfield down 9 in the 3rd quarter, and as well the general principle that throwing moves the ball more efficiently than running which is what you should do in short yardage situations since it's safer. It is no secret that many of today's players and coaches were big fans growing up.

Madden. Gone but will never be forgotten. I played Nose guard in HS because I was a big guy. I loved John Madden as The Oakland Raiders Head Coach because he was a big guy and The Raiders always played tough and won. When Madden got to the broadcast booth it was sheer magic. John Madden was THE 1ST NFL broadcaster that would explain, in hilarious detail, what the guys in the trenches were doing. Madden would diagram what each lineman would do using terms like "Bam" "Boom". Watching the documentary on his life was a great Christmas gift.

Because of John Madden, I started to fall in love with players that didn’t play for my team and teams that weren’t near my market. His infectious love for football and his easy way of teaching it probably is largely responsible for the explosion of NFL revenue. I think any NFL player would say they would prefer to be on an All Madden rather than an all pro team, and I myself didn’t pay attention to the all pro team until John stopped doing all madden teams.

Certainly a legend across the board, HOWEVER where I disagree with most is Madden was a very good commentator but not great. Yes, the Turducken and his awards during the Thanksgiving game along with his origination of the teletrastor made him a legend. No doubt but his commentating wasn't the greatest. To be truthful there have been a few better. That takes away nothing of his career though bc he was top notch at everything he did. RIP to him and my condolences along with prayers to all his family.
