I agree with your statement, but most of those gasses are just nitrogen. The antifreeze isn’t evaporating, just getting solid then melting. Better safe than sorry though.
I was unloading a truck at work amd unknown to me someone broke a gallon container of ethylene glycol (the stuff usually in antifreeze) on the hot asphault and i got a bit lightheaded but other than that I was fine. Its pretty safe stuff as far as chemicals go, and you shouldnt have to worry about it at all at room temperature or lower.
I'm honestly so happy you started your own channel. But... It's exactly the same kind of content. "Hey, let's freeze random stuff! Hey, let's melt random stuff! So many possibilities!" When they used to build interesting things, like an HHO generator, a laminar flow nozzle, or a backyard gas furnace, now that was the good stuff.
My husband grew up in Wisconsin. -34°F and below happened from time to time most winters. There were stretches below -40°F some years. I guess that’s why they used electric "block heaters" to keep the engine of the car from freezing overnight. The house he grew up in didn’t have a garage, which seems bizarre to me in a climate that gets that cold and sees a huge amount of snowfall. He talks about his dad sending him out to warm up the car a good 15-20 minutes before they planned to leave the house. This would have been in the 1960s; I wonder if antifreeze is the same as it was back then or if they’ve improved it so it freezes at a lower temperature now…
@wolfsiejk nope, you're dumb. 🎉 it's distilled water, this is premixed 50/50. pure antifreeze will have a much higher resistance. but this video is dumb too, everything freezes.
I did an experiment at my previous job that was kind of the opposite. I was trying to determine the maximum amount of antifreeze (specifically propeline glycol, I. E. pet-safe antifreeze) mized with water to get a good freeze of water. It was long enough ago that I forget the concentration amount, but just a little above that amount the water froze in flat sheets, sort of like wet, non flexible mica.

I’ve had antifreeze windshield fluid freeze on me before in the winter. Sub-Zero temps combined with the wind gets it down cold enough to freeze in seconds
My dad once had to call me in from school once during the winter because the ice was so bad on his car's windows, the stuff he used to get the ice off was also freezing and by the time he realized he wasn't getting anywhere, it was 5 minutes before school started and it would have taken me 20 to walk. He was hitting the ice so hard with the ice scraper, I thought the windshield was going to break.
Don't rely on the -34°F on the container. That is for a 50/50 mix. The greatest freeze protection comes from a 68/32 percentage mix. Increasing the concentration beyond that raises the freezing point and 100% antifreeze freezes at +9°F.
You should not touch it with your bare hands, because nitrogen liquid boils on your skin so it never get contact with your finger directly but antifreeze will stick to your finger and get stuck and gets directly contact with your finger and you can get serious freezer burn by touching with your bare finger!
