I run for the heck of it - I'm not concerned w/ breaking records. Sometimes I think folks take running for PRs too seriously. Enjoy the sport and if that includes drinking a few beers now and then, enjoy your life.

I quit drinking about a year ago, and I’ve never felt happier. Best decision ever.

Running made me give up on drinking almost instinctively. I used to be a social drinker, but after I started training for my first marathon I decided not to drink anymore just to dare myself and to see how it would affect my performance. Long story short, I finished the race under 3:25:00 (which was a great performance for me) and a few days later I had a few beers and realized I couldn't drink anymore. My body rejected it and I hated the feeling. Since then, I never had a drop of alcohol and I feel great, and don't miss it at all. Great video, I love your channel. "Cheers" from Brazil!

I scaled back on alcohol and my half marathon time went from a two year plateau of 2:06 to 1:52. I also dropped over 20lbs! Training for my first sub 22 minute 5K now! Like I said, it was a scale back. I still enjoy brews every now and then, especially after a race! It's all about balance ;)

I did watch your video as I had multiple 7% IPAs. I really believe that this is the biggest inhibitor in my progress and not just training but other elements of my life. I truly appreciate this content and it means a lot to me, thank you! Subscribe! I have a video about electrolytes but it is not as meaningful as what you have done here, truly appreciate you

Good job, you really nailed everything down, hammered it home good. I have been struggling with this one lately. Have been completely alcohol free for over 18 months now. After a recent break-up with my girlfriend. I turned to my long lost friend RUNNING.. After that one early run i realized i had for the most part abandoned running because of my relationship with this girl. What a wake_up call. So now im on 9 days of consecutive runs. Im in a better place. But the main point, i have been tempted to drink alcohol. This very good video solved this dilemma..Thank you

I appreciate when you said, "...the fact that alcohol consumption can derail some of your health goals." Alcohol provides too many unintended consequences; outcomes that are not the ones foreseen and intended by a purposeful action.

I cut back on drinking huge in 2018. I loved rum and diet pepsi and quit drinking soda over a year ago....so I drank a lot less rum. It has helped in running, making better meals, better workouts etc. I occasionally will drink rum on ice as a treat but the benefits of just not drinking have been so positive I am not missing it. Also diet pepsi is kind of evil. (Whenever I visit my mom we drink too much wine though)

Not much of a drinker, but I just drank a couple glasses of wine with my pasta meal before my half marathon tomorrow. I feel great tonight, nice and relaxed. Let’s see how race day goes!!! Everything in moderation, including moderation ;)

One of the biggest risks of "drinking and running" is that your erythrocytes stick together blocking small blood vessels in your brain. That may lead to a stroke

I always find that the morning after having a drink (even just one), I'll be much less likely to do my morning exercise and make 'excuses'... 2019 is my year to reduce alcohol consumption in general!

I quit smoking until I cross the Boston Finish Line... at which point I will light a big ole stogie for Red Auerbach and then I’m turning around going back up Boylston St to the Pour House and having a big ole frosty mug of Beer! There I said it... Goals established.... 2019 folks... and not a dang Hashtag in there!!!!

Hi! I think your video is excellent your a very good speaker....I'm doing c25k (ON WEEK 7 RUN 1 NOW) and doing QUITE well really, but I cant help but admit I find the whole drink thing is very difficult for me since I have been quite a drinker for years...I'm 67 and I'm training for a park run locally. I would love to beat 30 mins...but.....can I stop or cut down drastically, I dont know! But I I'll try!!!

I try to hit cardio as much as I can. My cardio involves getting my heart rate up to 165 and I’ll try to maintain that heart rate for about 30 minutes. I do drink everyday, about 6-8 beers a night while gaming before bed. Sometimes I feel like I don’t want to workout because I know I’ll have to hit cardio and it gives me this anxiety just thinking of going through the cardio exercise. I still manage to exercise 5 days a week minimum. I wonder if that’s the alcohol causing that chemical imbalance, or is it that my mind is being weak? Maybe it effects my sleep and I’m not getting enough quality sleep to maintain an active lifestyle like that. It might be a little of both I think. What do you guys think?

Hello, this doesn't really apply to the video, but I am in highschool training for the military and I'm trying to achieve sub 13 min 2 miles and sub 35 minute 5 miles. Right now I'm about 17 minute 2 miles and I've never even run more than a 5k (which was 30ish minute, i couldve gone faster but i was running with a group and wanted to stay with them.) before. So how should I go about my training? As of now I've been doing 2 miles everyother day and 5 sets lf 100 meter sprints in between, as well as pushup/situp/squat training. Is this a good routine? If not what should I change?
Ive got about 1 year, hopefully that's enough time!
    Thanks!

How many days a week should you run

    • @KC-zy5jy
      @KC-zy5jy 6 років тому

Sam sam I think that largely depends on your fitness level, your fitness goals, whether you are planning to race, increase time or speed, how much you eat, how much recovery time you need, how far you run, etc. I would say talk to a doctor or trainer to get a plan specific to you. I know people who run everyday and I know people who run 2-3x a week. It’s all about what works for you mentally and physically

Frank Shorter had several beers the night before the Olympic marathon in 1972. Didn't do him much harm!!!
Marty Liquori has also spoken about the benficial effects a few beers can have for a runner in serious training.
Lydiard also had no problems with his athletes having the odd beer. Halberg had a beer every day - according to his autobiography.
