This video is a "Very Good Total Take no Enemy's Goal" in every aspect, informative and very well edited, bravo: sometimes I wonder how much more popular MGO would have been if we had today's social media at our disposal back in 2008... I've spent most of my late 20s afternoons in those maps having so much fun also as a means to deal with my personal "Phantom Pain" for the end of the Solid Snake era of the Metal Gear saga and I still remember the final days of the original Metal Gear Online 2 as it was yesterday...😢 I really would like to give it a second try but now I'm in my early 40s and that time for me to play online multiplayer games has changed and there's no turning back unfortunately... About preserving the original MGO2: those against making new stuff are nothing more than self-proclaimed "experts" just jealous of other's achievements such as bringing back a multiplayer game killed by their beloved free review codes provider/Konami Digital Entertainment thus their opinions should be ignored.
life does get in the way sometimes, but if you should ever find the time to setup this and play it occasionally, wed love to have you. i hear you on the second part, unfortunately online discourse has become something of who can build the largest echo chamber, and that becomes the main opinion going forward

@@sgr_sean hey sean I'm sorry I'm trying to tell as many people as possible about the survey Konami has after their newest metal gear hotline series video. Day 1 MGO2 player here. So happy it’s much easier to play the revival now. Setting it up on PS3 was a huge barrier for a lot of people. The PC setup is amazing. Hopefully we can keep it alive for years to come.

7:30 True. I've found a way to scratch the MGO2 survival itch but, of course, nothing truly compares to the same experience that MGO2 provided. The absolutely best online shooter game ever, even despite the glitchers, DDOSsers and other undesirables that plagued the scene.
Damn, for about a year of my life I was living for Survival nights. I loved this game so much. It is my all time favourite online game. Loved the kit customisation. Forest Firefight with a good camo pattern meant you could lose people chasing you by going prone in the long grass. I was just trying to look like a soldier in camo but it actually worked. Greatest online game for me. Thanks for the good memories.
I used to play when SaveMGO got the game online for PS3 mod only. Was such a thrill to randomly run into an old clan friend of mine in the game. I literally had tears in my eyes. I haven't played it for many years since due to personal stuff but i just downloaded it today and I'm so looking forward to relive my young days in MGO2, the game ive played the most in my life. So many memories ❤
The commmunity is horribly toxic still acting like 16 year olds though. as a person who played this a lot it was really weird getting back into it, had some fun but was swiftly ruined by toxic people.
Yeah we atleast still have a more active mod team so feel free to report these people when that happens. Take any clips as needed and the mods will take care of it. Weve had alot of people banned before and its honestly way better now than it was before But it aint perfect by any stretch.
Yeah I had my fair share of people being assholes, so it didn't surprise me. Nowhere near as bad as it was back during the official servers, but it was noticeable. I haven't been on in months so I'm not sure what its like now.
Lmao, all my analog sticks were killed thanks to MGO XD. I still have the controllers. I ended up getting pad covers off ebay and using silicone to get them fixed in place.
MGO2 was fun to play, i remember the grind i spent getting my CQC up to max. I was one of the only max lvl CQC in qll the lobbies i played for a while. Then i started playing hide and seek, we would stumble upon new glitch spots. Those were the times man.
Quick question - I'd love to get into this and play online again as I only dablled briefly back in 2010, but how is it for new players? Like are the lobbies full of pro's or is there a variety of player skills? (Great vid btw!)
I would say it's varied but at the same time most players are better than someone just starting. There are often rooms for new/low level players. But you will sometimes need some patience to join that as the only player and wait for others. Or host your own game. There's also a great variation when it comes to experienced players. I consider myself experienced, but I'm nowhere near those who are the best. Some people have played the game for years, likely for many hours every week and with a competitive mentality. I recommend simply staying away from those if you're new. I mean at least games that includes a majority of high level players. I would say that high level in MGO is 14 or higher. Then there's the ones who are 16 or higher. What can I say about those... They will headshot you before you get 3 bullets out of your gun.
Theres a low level lobby exclusively for people that are new to the game. Id say there is definitely a variety but their not all on at the same time, if you see someone in the high levels usually 16 or above chances are their going to be insanely good. 14-15 is good 11-12 average 10 is new or below average if their stuck there.
@@DanSmeed yeah usually you dont stay at 13 that long. If your good you blow past it into 14 pretty quick. Cause the xp you gain changes depdning on average level in the lobby and since most people are 14-15 You tend to blow through levels 10-13 But since low level lobbies are 10-12 thats why the discrepancy is there.
@@sgr_sean Does it depend on average level? I thought it was more about the level of the opponents you defeat and are defeated by. And other factors such as how you performed earlier.
@@RealDjMarkuZ they havent cared about mgo since kojima left the company so thats the best guess i can give you since mgo was something kojima started with the team as a side project, and even mgo3 being worked on by the LA team was his doing too. Iirc

Got MGO2 working on my PC the other day. Been having such a blast. I can’t believe how much I retained from the game despite not playing it for 15 years.
I wasn't fond of MGO 2 but it had it's moments. I'm afraid this resurrected version is likely comprised of the most extreme, "10 years of playing the same game" players who probably only play the same COD-esque game modes and don't do Sneaking Matches, or Unique characters often. Probably the people who ran around with offensive usernames/clan names too. The progression system wasn't fun and the whole losing your rank/lv wasn't fun either. I'm sure people will enjoy this return, but I don't think this version is meant for a casual player like me. 17:50 - And I disagree with that on principle.
For casual players we offer level locked rooms where higher levels cant join. Thats the best thing we can do to avoid it, but it also means to new players have to fill that room themselves, as they arent the active ones. For those rooms its always either sneaking modes or a mix of modes. As far as the last part Idk what your disagreeing with on principal since the main game is left on touch and only new additions are being added without changing the rest.
I havent kept up with anything MGO2 for the past 2 - 3 years. Happy to see its growing bigger and better with a dedicated dev team. Many memories with the HeWhoDares folks. Loving the MGS2 Snake skin, be an awesome addition to the game. Has there been any mention of the Gurlukovich Mercenaries camo / outfits being added to the game? I'd be headphones guy in the tanker holds lol. All the best sean, hope to see you on the battlefield again soon.

Theres a specific build of the emulator for mgs4 iirc, mgo is handled differently. I personally play mgs4 with the mgo emulator and it DOES run better for me, but it still crashes a ton
Back in the day, there was "Adhoc party", but Portable Ops was not really popular enough. Everyone always played Monster Hunter -_- I think they could mod MGO1 to add in the Portable Ops stuff and it should be the same since it has the same controls. MGO2 is more popular though.
@@DEVeloper_ACE uhh right now, you might have a shot going to the savemgo discord and ask around, mgo2 might be the main thing, but their trying to get more for the rest of the games.
Biggest issue with MGO2 will always be the lag/desync, but when those dont happen and the teams/players have equal skill the MGO2 lobbies are GOATED, easily the best third-person shooter multiplayer game of all time, proof is 12 years later after its official shutdown the comunity still there and i thank so much to the saveMGO team for this proyect, this game is one of the greats.
It depends on the host. If you're in NA but connected to an EU host, or vice versa, you can expect some lag to occur. Players connected to a host within their own region typically experience minimal lag, especially if they are all on PC. The de-sync issues will happen no matter what however.
Thank you for this video. Metal Gear Delta has revived my interest in the Metal Gear series. I have always been a die-hard fan, and played MGO1 2 and 3. I definitely agree that MGO2 was the absolute best and am pleasantly surprised to see that SaveMGO did more than just revive the game, but added new content. With that in mind, I must ask. How does SaveMGO stay afloat to maintain these servers. Is there a subscription or do they ask for donations?
Took me 12 years to get back to mgo, first i had to finish my highschool than finish college, than save money for my degree... Than save money for a gaming laptop and here we are. ❤❤
I used to play this game back in the day, but I could never work around MGS4's atrocious aiming controls, how it uses its weird tank like linear interpolation to shift as you aim a weapon down sight and how you have to follow a tutorial on how to basically aim if you wanna be able to even play the game (I watched an in depth "How to aim" or similar title video and it was pretty insane! That coupled with the games mandatory headshot nature has made it a bit of a pass for me. What would be cool is if mouse and keyboard was added to the game to allow proper aiming so that you wouldn't be hampered by the game's native control scheme and have to rapidly switch between cardboard box and making sure your current vertical aim is 90 degrees and using left right movement to help aim etc and just point and shoot, I guess a lot of veteran MGO players would disagree with me but at the same time having basic mouse support would make the game substantially easier to play the basic fundamental of aiming for a headshot quick kill and thus make it more accessible to those looking to get into a community.
No way. Mouse and keyboard would totally break the game lol. It also utilizes pressure sensitive button controls on the DS3 controller. I guess that can be worked around but it really plays best with a DS3.
Bro why did I live through the peak era of gaming and not know about it until now? Imagine growing up with 15+ years of Fortnite and GTAV LOL. Could never be me.

Good video my dude. I played MGO 2 a few months ago and you're absolutely right about the player count. I was getting my ass kicked mostly, but I had some fun so it wasn't too bad.
Never got into survival back when it was out, and that was mainly because I had no one to play with. Will be interesting to see how the numbers go this Saturday when Survival launches again.
Hope you have fun!
Hope that gun game mode comes soon, looks interesting to play
8:52 🤪nice emote
This game was so good, and probably one of the most challenging games out there when playing against good players 😂
This video is a "Very Good Total Take no Enemy's Goal" in every aspect, informative and very well edited, bravo: sometimes I wonder how much more popular MGO would have been if we had today's social media at our disposal back in 2008...
I've spent most of my late 20s afternoons in those maps having so much fun also as a means to deal with my personal "Phantom Pain" for the end of the Solid Snake era of the Metal Gear saga and I still remember the final days of the original Metal Gear Online 2 as it was yesterday...😢
I really would like to give it a second try but now I'm in my early 40s and that time for me to play online multiplayer games has changed and there's no turning back unfortunately...
Nice video. Whats the music playing at around 2:25?
I remember I jailbroke one of my ps3s to get back on here like 3 or so years ago just to many memories with this game man I should jump back into it.
I've been playing it on and off since it came out on PS3, the OG one and the SaveMGO one, when they ported it over to PC I've intruduced so many friends to it, but like you said the skill level meant me destroying them even if I didn't mean to and I tried teaching them, I hope that videos like this make a ton of people join us!
@@Dilsoc as long as people xontinue to try and keep the door open for people to play the game and eventually get to the level they need to be at
And teach people what they need to know since alot of this game is very specific.
Then people will stick around.
But being toxic and or mean to people for getting things wrong wont get the playerbase anywhere, thats atleast how i see it.
@@sgr_sean hey sean I'm sorry I'm trying to tell as many people as possible about the survey Konami has after their newest metal gear hotline series video. Maybe we could get a lot of people to respond to it, translating their words into Japanese for the survey. They wanted Japan only residents for some reason. Might be our only chance to show Konami how much mgo means to us. Maybe they remaster mgo 2 officially or make a new one based off mgo 2 based off of fan feedback
@@sgr_sean also the original mgo 2 director Mr. Korekado is apart of the video series!

@@sgr_sean definitely that was exciting it was listed lol. I'm hopeful at the very least because wasn't mgo 3 just handed off to the LA studio? Whereas 1 and 2 were made in Japan. Plus with the original director for 2 still there, so much potential.
Day 1 MGO2 player here. So happy it’s much easier to play the revival now. Setting it up on PS3 was a huge barrier for a lot of people. The PC setup is amazing. Hopefully we can keep it alive for years to come.
While mgo2 does contain that stealth movement and gameplay of mgs , the ability to blast yell dead cell and punch fulton, run at Mach 5 with the tranq in mgo 3 will forever be my favorite ( not to mention fox engine being amazing)
Defiently going to play this when I get my new PC which is very soon.
Hey, where do you go to get the 3d player models for mgo 2? I liked to mod some models.
you can get them a few ways, you can get the a player model pack from Deviant art called MGO Player Basic Textures.
or can probably find rips online, in model archive sites.. its been awhile so i dont know any off hand.
or you can use Solid Eye and Noesis and rip them from the game yourself
@@sgr_sean ah okay. I do see the male models on deviant art but not female models. Also I don't really understand how to rip models from games. :\
I wish my ps3 wouldn’t have bricked I want this game back bad!
It's actually better on PC now than playing on a PS3. If you have a PC of course. If you don't then this is a pointless post from me.
this and warhawk were so awesome. ps3 was really underrated as a multiplayer system.
Rumor has it with the remake of 3 - MGO may return with some original staffers of MGO and MGO2. Recently addressed in one of their videos.
I was just waiting to get a better pc config, now it's time try MGO2, even tho i already played MGO1
Weve had alot of people banned before and its honestly way better now than it was before
But it aint perfect by any stretch.

Great video Sean! What's the link to the tutorial site mentioned in the video? I haven't seen it before.
iirc its not done yet so its not available publicly
MGO2 was fun to play, i remember the grind i spent getting my CQC up to max. I was one of the only max lvl CQC in qll the lobbies i played for a while. Then i started playing hide and seek, we would stumble upon new glitch spots. Those were the times man.
I always thought the desync came from my slow internet back then but you just made me realize it was the game all along lmao
14-15 is good
11-12 average
10 is new or below average if their stuck there.
@@sgr_sean So level 13 doesn't exist?
@@DanSmeed yeah usually you dont stay at 13 that long.
If your good you blow past it into 14 pretty quick.
Cause the xp you gain changes depdning on average level in the lobby and since most people are 14-15
You tend to blow through levels 10-13
But since low level lobbies are 10-12 thats why the discrepancy is there.
@@sgr_sean Does it depend on average level? I thought it was more about the level of the opponents you defeat and are defeated by. And other factors such as how you performed earlier.
i launched mgsv fine, switched to mgo 3, it freezes on the loading screen...

Also, when MGS4 comes out on PC i hope it will allow for native MGO playability that would be crazy. Even if Konami doesn't put MGO2 on PC i am hoping the files are still present at the very least so people can datamine and reconstruct it. I wonder if the legacy collection edition has them hmm... Was sad to see I couldn't play MGO2 but was super happy back when MGS5 released with MGO3. Tried it a few times near it's release and it was fine...till the meta set in...everyone ran stealth invis and the same kit. Devolved quickly into both teams lower level players having to camp a corner of the map with explosives and tightly together unless they wanted to get snatched anywhere on the map constantly from someone running around invisible.
Thanks for covering all these points, been curious about getting back into mgo all these years later. Keep mgo alive!
As far as the last part
Idk what your disagreeing with on principal since the main game is left on touch and only new additions are being added without changing the rest.
I havent kept up with anything MGO2 for the past 2 - 3 years. Happy to see its growing bigger and better with a dedicated dev team. Many memories with the HeWhoDares folks.

It depends on the host. If you're in NA but connected to an EU host, or vice versa, you can expect some lag to occur. Players connected to a host within their own region typically experience minimal lag, especially if they are all on PC. The de-sync issues will happen no matter what however.

Needs more players. Especially on at the same damn time!
That would be kinda OP though, since all players wouldn't use a mouse and keyboard. All players aren't even on PC.
The people that play this still, were not new player friendly at all, and thought I was a troll 😢
