Dr. Mark Souweidane gives an excellent description of syringomyelia and helps explain why there are so many variations of Chiari malformation. This lecture was at the CSF Chapter meeting in New York City at Weill Cornell Medical College.

I was born July 1978 with bacteria meningitis and was immediately diagnosed with hydrocephalus and got a vp shunt. In 2009 I was diagnosed with Arnold Chiari malformation type 1, syringomyelia, syringobulbia and ended up having a decompression surgery. Sadly I've been having problems with treatment due to lack of professionals and I'm no longer in Tama FL. The lack of experience in my complex neurological conditions has caused with limited availability and treatments available.

I would like to know if symptoms for Chiari 1 can increase after a car accident?

Hi, Maria! It is possible, but you should always get your symptoms reviewed by a qualified professional! Dr. Batzdorf talks a bit about how Chiari malformation may "creep up" on patients in our most recent upload: ua-cam.com/video/O4VU3OaBppM/v-deo.html

Multiple syrinxes were seen in my thoracic spine during an MRI in 2011. I’ve had chronic neck pain since 2004 but recently more severe scary symptoms. None of my multiple doctors have addressed this over the years. Should I seek a specialist?

Hello Michelle, of course you should. Probably not any specialist of neurology but someone who is specialized in syrinxes. I wish you all the best.

That’s me all the way, plus dizziness and blurry vision, I’m weak, my forearms hurt and so do my feet. I’m dragging my body to walk. I’m in a daze, I have CM with spinal cysts.
