I'm going to have to figure out what's wrong with me but I can't get enough of this fabulous cover. This time it was the Bass Man that got me. Exceptional Mr. Bass!
Bass player is an absolute beast
Apart from this being next level smooth sliding off the screen, it was also put together very quickly after Shaun was ill and the track had to be changed. If you watch Crafty's behind the scenes video above you will understand. This could have easily just been Darren singing with someone else on the boards, but it adds so much more. Even the one handed playing for most of it allowed his emotion to come through. Crafty, Michael and Damo just sealed the deal. Top marks as ever. I suspect that Harley was off somewhere drinking his own Hot Chocolate. Thanks to the whole crew for this adventure you are taking us all on! Roll on 2024! Kudos from Matty x

Yeah me too. It's been my ear worm for several days now. I remember the song and was around when Errol Brown and Hot Chocolate were in their heyday, but I never realised what a great song it was. Darren and the boys have given me a whole new appreciation for it.

Loved it - the original was a bit 'saccharine' - but your treatment adds a little 'edge' to the song - excellent bass lines, and Crafty does a great job, as usual

Sublime. A terrific arrangement and a superb performance from all of the band.
Knowing the backstory (thanks Crafty) this pared back version with half the musicians that the original had is pretty darn good.
It's worth checking out Crafty's UA-cam channel before you watch the cover this week to see how well everyone did with the change of circumstances regarding the song, normally I do it the other way round but heard there was an issue so I did it this way and glad I did. That being said, yet another musical mastercraft from all involved and such a lovely chilled out song to end the year on, so wishing you all a Happy New Year for 2024 wherever you are in the world and here's to move awesome covers :)
Outstanding tribute to the original. I had never heard this song before, though I came from that time period. Wonderful story-telling song from Hot Chocolate done just right by Darren and crew!

It was great to hear Hot Chocolate covered, and covered so well. Errol was such an amazing and expressive singer that few would be brave enough to try, and fewer still have the talent of Darren to pull it off.
It's a song I would like to hear you sing in a live concert. I know the basement recordings are live, but you have to sing fairly softly. How magical this would be if Darren could open up his voice fully.

It has its inspiration in real life. Errol Brown wrote it about a girl he was in love with in Primary School, hence the line - "you were only eight years old, I had just about turned nine".

A classic! Hot Chocolate's biggest and probably most well-known hit was "you sexy thing," but they left us a number of others that didn't receive as much radio play that are just as great.
