You never know what happens from watching your videos! My daughter pulled a hardbook copy of The Historian languishing unread from her shelves since 2006! Now it's on my TBR 2024
ABRTP (Always Be Reading Terry Pratchett) I read No Visible Bruises a few years ago and found it to be such a well informed piece of nonfiction. I don’t remember the small text but I do remember how accessible it was and how much it helped me process after escaping my own abusive relationship. such a staple in the Abuse Studies subgenre of nonfic, really looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Rachel Louise Synder has (had?) a new book coming out too that I’m excited to pick up called Women We Buried, Women We Burned, I think it’s a memoir xxxx
If you DNF'd Gideon once, I don't know if the audiobook is going to change your mind. The book thrives on being confusing (I loved it, but I can definitely see why other people wouldn't) and I don't know if the audiobook will help or hinder that lol. Edit: Though if you're also reading the paperback alongside, that might help. I really do hope you end up loving it because I think the series is pretty brilliant and I'm frothing at the mouth to get a release date for the fourth book.
Goodreads says I’ve been at 10% on The Historian for the past 3 years. This is so painful because I am a historian and writer and I love vampires, so I have no idea why (especially when I read over 200 books a year) I haven’t been able to finish it. I wish you better luck.
I read Pawn of Prophecy for the first time last year and whilst I agree it's kinda gateway fantasy, I really enjoyed it. Found it to be a very cosy read and definitely want to carry on the series this year :) Pachinko is also on my tbr! 🍄
🍄 I enjoyed The Historian years ago, and, while it took its time, I didn't feel it was too overly long. On the other hand, I may have been more patient back then.
witch bottle! 😩😩😩 sounds so good doesn’t it? i found it boring as, and the witch part fell quite short for me, and the end was totally weird. however, you may love it, so i can’t wait to see your review of it. happy new year to you and lovely spouse harry 🎉🍄
That is quite an eclectic array of books to digest for January! It sounds like the bulk of them you will enjoy. I hope you have an awesome reading month. I have never read Illuminae. I really need to pick that up and read it. Rainy day book🤷♀️🙃😄
I know this is totally off topic, but I don’t know how else to reach you. 😂 I know you love witches and cozy games, so I thought I’d mention Bramble the Mountain King to you. This was my review for it. You should at least check it out. 🙂 This is the wildest, most original cozy game I’ve ever played. There are stories within the story, some based on Nordic mythology. If you’re fascinated by the witch trials or the 1600s in general, there’s a hauntingly beautiful portion where you have to confront witches. There’s some hardcore themes because Bramble is reminiscent of original fairy tales. Disney will not come to save you. I found it a tad needlessly gory in parts, but the originality of the game kept me hooked. I had a lot of fun with this one. Patience and a good sense of timing is mandatory.
Full disclosure no visible bruises will have you absolutely sobbing at parts and just feeling devastated and hopeless. Please read when you are in a good mental health situation ♥️♥️ but it’s absolutely one of the books I recommend frequently
Absolutely loved The Historian! I listened to it as an audiobook and I recommend it. Just know it goes back and forth between her as a girl and as an adult 🍄
Im interested to hear your thoughts on Pachinko. I read it several years ago and had very strong salty opinions on it. I loved the first half, but the second half was SO different it was jarring and made no sense style-wise with the first half, and there were characters introduced whose arcs were just abandoned, it absolutely killed the book for me. 🍄
🍄 I’m about two thirds of the way through Gideon on audiobook and have stalled. I like the main character a lot and it’s a really interesting plot, the little I understand of it but I need more of a clue about what’s going on. Perhaps I’ll keep it for a long train journey!
Technically, if you haven’t purchased any books in 2024 you’ve read 100% of them, so good job!!!

Omg yaasss Pachinko is soo good 😭😭
🍄Good luck!!! :D I'm happy you have to read PAchinko. It's so so good
Pachinko was one of my favorite books I read last year- but it took well over a month! Worth sticking with it. Audiobook is excellent 🍄
I'm SO glad you're going to be reading Gideon!
"time I spread the pain around" hahahaha that is an iconic line and I love it! Hi new here but this is so much fun!
The Historian is so good! Kinda makes me want to pick it back up

Pawn of Prophecy was my gateway to fantasy too!

Agreed they're so good.

The City we Became is also a series 😅
And the audiobooks are amazing!

I only voted for Gideon, which also has a And Then There Were None plot in the middle. I hope you love it.
🍄 I really enjoyed The Diviners.
