    2:18 Just to be clear. You can never play a communications token on a rocket. Also, you have to divide tasks before you can communicate. The video doesn't say otherwise, but the imagery might be confusing.

    So, i suck at normal trick taking games, but am a shark at the Crew. Plus, Steph and others who are veteran 500 players say they have to fight their instincts in the game. If you have played other trick taking games and then the crew, what was your experience like?

      Played a LOT of Hearts when young and love trick taking games. Also love co-op games, so this is one of my favourite games of the year. Everyone I’ve taught it to has really enjoyed it. What I really like is that it makes you really rethink your standard trick taking strategies. Also love the changes that some of the missions introduce.

      Talked about it on Twitter with you, but sadly we felt the game was too easy for our group. But considering we've spent years playing trick taking games together every single day during high school and college, I don't hold it against The Crew. The cooperative aspect of it is great and I know we would have loved it earlier in our lives, but it's not the game for us right now. I still recommend it to plenty of people and I'm happy it won the Spiel des Jahres and hopefully l'As d'Or in february. :)

      I find I need to remember for 4 players there are only 9 cards in each suit, so what counts as a long suit is much different than traditional bridge or spades.

  • @keithedwards649

    Not thematic at all. You could quite easily build this deck from a regular deck of cards. The 50 different ideas for the 50 rounds do work nicely tho, ramping up the difficulty throughout the game. If you enjoy trick-taking games, this is worth your time. Just don't expect to be enveloped in a fictional Sci-fi world like you can get in games like Nemesis or TI4.

    Waitaminute, have I been playing it wrong this whole time? We've been playing it so the player who wants to win the trick with say the yelllow 1 has to win the trick *with that card*. Which can be done but is extremely difficult. That would explain our very low win rate...

    • @duelbro5217
      @duelbro5217 3 роки тому

      Disclaimer: Haven't played any of the games I talk about here, it's all just info gathered online.
      Well the box itself says that it's tacked on ("3-5 players with optional 2 player variant") and the manual description for two players once again says that it's really best at 3+.
      It works by one person controlling an artificial third player. There is more to it than "3 player game and I play for 2", and I've heard it does work quite well. Some missions where you have to take tricks in a certain order might become a bit flawed with this variant (for the artificial player 7 cards are covered up by the other 7, so if during setup the card needed for the first trick gets dealt below the one for the second trick you can't win).
      If that annoys you (shouldn't happen all that often though, and the games are short anyway) or if you don't like playing with an artificial player, then it won't be for you. Otherwise it might be fine, but if you really want a trick taking game for two then Fox in the Forest might be more fitting, and if you don't care about trick taking at all then you might want to look for other games that are more dedicated to two players.

    Is this supposed to be a tutorial or a review? A review you watch before buying the game, and a tutorial you watch after having bought the game but immediately before playing the game the first time.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  2 роки тому +4

      None of the above. These videos are recaps of the game designed to give you just enough information to know if the game is immediately not your thing, or something you want to look at deeper. They are also trailers for the game to give people a quick taste of what the game is about. There is a short review section, but I never designed the videos to be the only thing you would ever need to see about a game to understand it.

      @@3MBG Thanks for replying! I’d be willing to pay for a 30 sec to 2 min super quick intro to a game’s essentials, so that I can get to start playing as quickly as possible. Even if we play it a bit wrong at first. Because the biggest barrier to playing any awesome new game is to actually get my family/friends to play it with me. Esp. when no one knows how to play it. The doorstep barrier often kills a game’s appeal so much they’d rather play something simple they already know… I think there is a large market for this, as it’s a problem for many I know. The best game is the one you actually get people to play with you…
