    I wanted to continue bicycle touring, but I was tired of setting up a tent every night. So I decided to build a bicycle camper that is lightweight and small when on the road, and large when in camping mode. Have a look at what I came up with.

    This man survives cancer and chemo while building his own bicycle camper, then goes on a bicycle camper tour by himself in his elder years, and on top of all of that he also uploads it all to UA-cam! That's what I'm talking about! That is living! He should be an inspiration to us all! You are the man my good sir, keep on keeping on!

    This seems a small detail, in light of the impressive design and sense of fun this video presents - but I must say that I also enjoyed your method of presentation. Your gestures do a great job of drawing attention to various features, and feel like watching a stage illusionist's act; and the scientific summation at the end was very informative. As a commuter-cyclist and avid camper myself, it makes me consider the possibilities of a few projects of my own. Thank you for the inspiration!

      Work-flow was efficient as hell... When he built back the 2 wheels, he picked up both, knowing that he can build in just one to begin with... He leaned the 2nd against the wall, so that he doesn´t have to bend over till the ground a 2nd time for that 2nd wheel. In that age, and also in hard manual labours, this way of thinking can really save your lower back...

    I'm so glad I finally came across your channel.
    I have been binge watching as many bike camper "building" videos as I could find but now I've finally come across a design similar to what I have begun to develop myself.
    I have this collapsible storage box with a lid that doubles as a seat- the design keeps coming back to me as the best way to achieve the space I want while not losing support & strength.
    I love this little camper
    💛💙💛
    Side note... I am yet to come across any women undertaking a challenge such as this. I hope it's not just a security thing...

    I tow a BoB with a solar panel on the top for my C-Pap batteries. You could mount a flexible solar panel and some lithium batteries and not have to run the power cord to the Hydro Toured southwest Ontario a few years ago. Lovely people, had a great time. I still like tenting it but I'm still a youngster at 63. Happy and safe travels! :)

      Im thinking a pop up tent goes up and breaks down easier. Now multiply the comparative efforts of setup and breakdown with the bad weather factor and it isnt at all difficult to imagine getting into the tent is faster and easier in the rain.
      I also dislike removing the wheels. Tent sizing is flexible as well with the possibility of space for two and maybe even your bike.

It would be nice if there were a magic formula for mental health problems. I find solace and mental uplifting when I'm either on the water or riding my bike. I hope you will be able to find something that works for you.
      Take care, dear.

    Congratulations, great product, great presentation, I really enjoyed it !!! I am an adventurer who lives in Brazil, I had a dream to know the mountain ranges of the Andes by bicycle, when grown out of the capital I passed through the Pantanal, crossed Bolivia and arrived in Machu Picchu in Peru !!! My biggest difficulty was finding a place to sleep and eat, it was 27 days like this !!! If I had seen this video before, I would not have this problem !!! Today at age 43 I have a cancer, but I know that God will heal me, I will go back to pedaling and for this engineering I will live strong emotions !!! Thank God for your existence, people who do not stop, thank you ...

    • @RobertBeriault753
      @RobertBeriault753  6 років тому

      Hello Greg,
      Wow! You've really been to wonderful places! You have to be strong to cycle those mountains. You will conquer your cancer and will be able to continue your adventures. As for a Bériault camper in the Andes, you have to consider that it weighs 27 kg (60 lbs) empty. It would be very hard to climb those hills without electric assist. But if you have electric assist you have to find a way of charging your battery every night.
      Best regards.

    Hi Robert, Great video. My dad is going to be building a luxury camping e-bike trailer that he wants to take off road in the Baja region of Mexico. Your trailer was the first of any sort of solar ebike trailer we found. Great work.

    • @RobertBeriault753
      @RobertBeriault753  6 років тому +1

      If you are designing a camper for off road you have the luxury of width, which can make it far more comfortable. I have to live within 23 1/2 inches of width. Of course, it would not be possible without the lateral extension and the vestibule, which increase elbow room.

    • @riley_oneill
      @riley_oneill 6 років тому

      His biggest concern is vibration and handling tough conditions. Have you run into issues regarding vibration with your trailer?

    • @RobertBeriault753
      @RobertBeriault753  6 років тому +3

      Rough roads and sidewalks do shake the trailer a lot. However, none of my equipment, nor the trailer itself got damaged. This includes my CPAP machine, which is buried into my sleeping bag. Although I built the trailer using butt joints, it seems to stand up. I used two three-inch number six screws in each transverse piece, pre-drilling beforehand.

      I think the reason why this trailer garners more likes than dislikes is that we all know that we are living unsustainably. We know we need to reduce our environmental footprint. Therefore when people see a camper that is a thousand times lighter than a house trailer or an RV, they are interested.

      mech5 fab No, what he has is an opinion. Having tried pretty much every style of camping you could think of I can see the merits and the flaws of this setup. No setup is perfect and, clearly, it is not for everybody. I’ll tell you there are times I’ve been bike packing with a tent and wished I had camper and there are times I had a camper (borrowed) and wished I had my hammock.
      As I said - no setup is perfect but to rag on what works for someone is a *lack* of insight.

    weight is everything when on a bicycle trip, that must weigh like 35lbs or more, its cool but not worth the weight when you could carry a 3lb tent, also he said he got tired of setting up a tent every night but honestly I could set up a tent in the same time it takes him to set up that trailer, you just need a good tent, also you will have more room in tent, I traveled on bicycle with a tent for a year and a half and I learned fast to lighten up my pack as much as possible, weight is everything. still cool tho.
