The council bunker was under the council offices which were demolished and the bunker then secretly hidden into a newly built Dentists office. That office has now been demolished and the bunker taken out also.

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to capture another part of history being removed. The cost to the tax payer when built and now being erased. One side of me is sad and the other angry that it could not have been put to use. I will never have an opportunity to ever own something like that, it would make a cool home for someone. Gutted, but again thanks for it. Love the intro. This will become your legacy and people in the future will see the video.

The bunker wasn't built secretly. My father watched it being built so did everyone else on wiltshire drive. It was actually my father that raised the concern for the new development (still on going) about the bunker to the planning board as it hadn't been mentioned. The planning board had no idea it existed so clearly official plans were altered.
The best part about it is before it was even finished the ventilation system was found to not work and could not be replaced so they continued building on top of it for the dental surgery and driving centre. The video in the articel that says this is the entrance was not. That was part of the ventilation system with lots of control equipment.
The dentists and council used the bunker to store documents and other resouces. I know that because my friends and I saw them unloading and offered to help as we knew where the side door went thanks to this not being secret at all. They said "yes". I spent many an hour climbing the ventialation system to get balls back when i was younger.

Great drone footage, looks good on my 3K monitor. (Actually USA would put the date as 1/9/2019. 2019.1.9 is more like the international format of 2019-01-09 which is what I now use to avoid confusion). Keep up the good work :)

Went in there in the eighties when I worked for wwdc, it was full of old table and chairs from the council offices.

The Bunker was underneath the Dentist, not the Council Offices. The door on the Somerset Live article was definitely NOT the entrance.
Pretty cool drone footage still 👌

The small building where they said the entrance was located was actually a compressor room. We looked in there a couple of months ago but couldn’t get into the bunker as the dentist was locked up pretty securely. We researched it and it looked more like a regular basement that was under the dentist (built at the same time in the 80’s).

The council offices was the first home to this bunker. After the council offices were demolished the bunker was then re-hidden under the dentists they built. Thanks for the kind words. Entrance was on the side of the dentists out of sight. The air vents were on the side of the dentists facing the main road but looks very non descript. The exhaust for the generator was a silver flu up higher than the air vents. Very sneaky of them to hide things like this. Public money spent to hide stuff.... hmmmm.

@@TheSecretVault the WWDC bunker was always under the doctors surgery, never under the actual council buildings which have their own bunker. WWDC's bunker was built between 1980 and 1984, later than the renovation work that added a bunker to the main council buildings on Bythesea Road though, naturally, the main council offices bunker is significantly larger too.
The council buildings adjacent to the surgery were only demolished within the last 4 or 5 years and the doctors surgery closed around the same time. Aside from the demolition work, the place has remained the same. No moving of bunkers I'm afraid.

@@TheAlexthemole useful info but I would like to clarify. This "doctors surgery" is this what we know as the "Dentists" which is featured in the video above. Or is this doctors at a different place. Also I am interested in your info on the main council offices bunker. Do you have any links to info on this.

Did you notice the doorway in the opposite wall to where he was drilling the holes ??? I wonder what they will be doing with that area past the doorway ???. The guy on the excavator didn't seem to be doing much as half the buckets he picked up he dropped again straightaway lmao, it must've been near tea break lol. x

These buildings should have to be documented before just ripped down

  • @jdraver

looks more like a normal basement then a bunker and a bunker would be more solid built if it was to protect from bombs and stuff, it also seams to fare up on surface, but still sad to see things being ripped apart :(.

That´s a bunker....? Looks more than a normal concrete-basement. The private WWII-bunkers here in my German community have walls up to one meter thickness and ceilings up to 1,5 meters.

I put the drone in the car to see what the state of play was at the site. I am not an official photographer for them and had limited time so did what I could. I agree a timelapse might be interesting but then you would only have one angle.
