As a Thunder fan I can ensure you that you will not be disappointed with Giddey. His FT% % 3pt are improving. He knocked out the Pelicans in the play-in with a 30pt Triple Double in 2023 & then knocked out the Pelicans in 24' 1st rd G4 4th qtr w/ back to back 3pt'ers. He's up there w/ LeBron in triple doubles by age 21.

His size as a point guard makes it easier for him to attack the rim and help out with rebounding which leads to pace. Even 15 points, 8 to 10 assists and 6 to 8 rebounds a game shooting 45 - 35 - 85 would be such a great contribution for us
He has stretches for Australia, where he bullies himself inside and tries his little floaters. He's really effective when his confidence is high and he can get right to the rim.
I think the Giddey/Caruso trade was a win-win for both teams for where they are right now. OKC are looking to contend and needed an off-ball guard that could comfortably fit with Shai and bring big value right now, and Giddey just isn't that kind of player and doesn't look like becoming that kind of player. Getting Caruso makes a lot of sense for them since they are in win-now mode. Conversely, the Bulls are rebuilding, so they can afford to invest in a longer term prospect who is a ball handler that can facilitate for his teammates and get them open looks. The fit works for both teams, especially in light of the questions around Lonzo Ball's future availability. Long term is Josh Giddey a championship winning point guard? I'd have to say no, or at least not right now. He needs to become an at least average 3pt shooter and all round better shooter to reach that level (and improve his D as well). But he's only 21, which means he's still younger than a lot of this season's rookies, so there is still a lot of room for him to grow as a player and shooting is a very teachable skill. For the Bulls being where they are right now, it's a good move to take on Giddey where is he right now (still a useful player) and see what he can turn into. It might be that long term his role is as a backup guard off the bench, but time will tell. Regardless, he's nowhere near as bad a player as r/nba would have you believe.

An Aussie here. I was a Bull's fan in the 90's and then i stopped following the NBA.. Got back into watching the NBA because Giddey and followed OKC.. I guess i now follow the Bulls again and im excited. Cant wait for the season to start ❤

GIDDEY - before Chet and Jalen, the offense was much more dependent on Josh. After the addition of these two future all-stars, Giddey's role changed in a way that did not play to his strengths. If he had come off the bench, leading the second unit, it would have been a good fit. He will be a good addition to any team who puts the ball in his hands.
he’s not going to be as good as Harden, don’t get me wrong but this honestly kinda reminds me of how James Harden was extremely underrated when he was with OKC. They had him taking a lesser role and playing off-ball more due to having a stacked young roster with KD and Russ being the “stars” of the team. Giddey was basically the same but on an even more stacked team with SGA, JDub and Chet ahead of him + even guys like Lu Dort and Aaron Wiggins ahead of him in the pecking order, in terms of minutes and opportunity due to them fitting better with SGA and JDub. In both situations, OKC had generational playmakers playing as SGs due to having an established All-NBA PG just to trade them for a minimal package - albeit Caruso honestly isn’t too bad of a return, compared to when they traded James Harden for basically one year of Kevin Martin and the draft pick that became Steven Adams

It may be worth noting that Giddy has shot 10/19 from 3 accross 6 FIBA games since he was signed by the bulls - 52.6%. Its not the NBA of course, but still pretty good for a guy that "cannot shoot".
The truth is that the scandal and scrutiny did hurt him and damaged his confidence, which impacted his play and shooting splits and led him to reduced minutes and ultimately getting benched. Perhaps a fresh start at a team that hands him the starting PG keys will do him some good. He'll probably never be a 'good' shooter, all he needs to be is serviceable and to continue to work on his drive and finish game. He is an insane passer with active cutters, he still has quite a bit of room to grow as a playmaker off the live dribble, he'll often pick up his dribble and then has to make a standing pass to a cutter rather than probing and baiting, partly it's a shooting issue and partly a handle issue. Good luck to the guy.

Josh is 21 years old. He went through a hellish past season with the statutory/underage case where he was getting booed. He's an Australian kid playing away from home for the longest period of his life. Apart from Chet Holmgren, he didn't really mesh with the rest of OKC. And like was already suggested, he needs the ball in his hands, he makes people better around him as a 6'9 ball handler.. Bulls easily got a better player back. He can't shoot, but that's something that he can build on. ALEX CARUSO has shot over 40% 3 times in his career!!! He is not that much better a shooter. And defence Josh can work on..

3 things can be equally true: A - Josh Giddy can be a really nice prospect/player who will have a long career, be entertaining and put up great numbers. (example: d'angelo russell) B - AK should have gotten more for Alex (1st round pick this year + Giddy) based on the fact that Giddy cant yet shoot or defend (2 most important aspects of modern basketball) and the fact that his contract is up. C - Josh Giddy may not be the type of player you win championships with. At first, i was hyped about A and was very very excited to get Giddy. Then, i was pissed that AK didnt get more so I took my frustrations out on Giddy. Then, i realized that we'll prob never win a championship with a player like giddy so i was "meh" about the move. Giddy, Ayo, White, Williams, Buzelis, Phillips & Smith are talented players who could win 40-50 games one day. The bulls really really need better bigs who can 3 & D and maybe more. but its a nice start to a rebuild. and i'll be happy to get league pass and watch the games again this year with this young group. I still dont believe in AK as he is horrible at making trades but hey, what can you do?

I agree with everything except that giddy is a modern player. Modern players need to be long. Giddy has a negative wing span. They need to 3 & D. he is bad at both. but i guess he can improve at a few aspects. He isnt long for his height but is long for your average PG. He can get better at 3 & D as well. The modern NBA will not be about superstars. it will be about 3 & D. Drive and Kick. Playing 5 out. giddy is not optimal at doing that but he should get better.

Its why i am not scared of wemby winning every ring. there is only so much 1 player can do in the modern NBA. in fact, the more ball dominant a player is the less 3 point shots your team can put up and the goal of the modern NBA is to put as many 3 point shots as possible. Height, Size and leaping ability (jordan, shaq, magic, bron, wemby) will be replaced by skills and smarts - figuring out how to maximize 3's and working on your range.

@dlawso23 if lonzo comes back after not playing 3 years he is better at SG with giddey as the PG. Giddey will give Lonzo open looks for 3 and that will probably keep lonzo healthy.
Playing international is not the same as playing at the NBA level with teams who know your weaknesses and have players covering you. On an Australian team he is their Lebron. But on an NBA team he's just like any other PG. To remind you, Dennis Shroeder won the Fiba games over the USA scoring 30 points with 8 assist. Stats in the international game is not the same at the NBA level because teams have other players you have to compete with on your team. In addition, NBA teams have defensive players who will force you to do what you don't like and they will force Josh to shoot because they know his game now. They also know his game defensively as he is slow with his feet. Can he become an elite defensive player? Can he become an good 3 point shooter? Time will tell because on the East teams will definitely force him to be. Remember on the East alone these are the guards Josh has to compete. How he defends these guys will dictate his play. It will mean nothing to average a triple double if you can't defend and are minus on the floor. It may be worth noting that Giddy has shot 10/19 from 3 accross 6 FIBA games since he was signed by the bulls - 52.6%. Its not the NBA of course, but still pretty good for a guy that "cannot shoot".
The truth is that the scandal and scrutiny did hurt him and damaged his confidence, which impacted his play and shooting splits and led him to reduced minutes and ultimately getting benched. Perhaps a fresh start at a team that hands him the starting PG keys will do him some good. He'll probably never be a 'good' shooter, all he needs to be is serviceable and to continue to work on his drive and finish game. He is an insane passer with active cutters, he still has quite a bit of room to grow as a playmaker off the live dribble, he'll often pick up his dribble and then has to make a standing pass to a cutter rather than probing and baiting, partly it's a shooting issue and partly a handle issue. Good luck to the guy.

Josh is 21 years old. He went through a hellish past season with the statutory/underage case where he was getting booed. He's an Australian kid playing away from home for the longest period of his life. Apart from Chet Holmgren, he didn't really mesh with the rest of OKC. And like was already suggested, he needs the ball in his hands, he makes people better around him as a 6'9 ball handler.. Bulls easily got a better player back. He can't shoot, but that's something that he can build on. ALEX CARUSO has shot over 40% 3 times in his career!!! He is not that much better a shooter. And defence Josh can work on..

3 things can be equally true:
A - Josh Giddy can be a really nice prospect/player who will have a long career, be entertaining and put up great numbers. (example: d'angelo russell)
B - AK should have gotten more for Alex (1st round pick this year + Giddy) based on the fact that Giddy cant yet shoot or defend (2 most important aspects of modern basketball) and the fact that his contract is up.
C - Josh Giddy may not be the type of player you win championships with.
At first, i was hyped about A and was very very excited to get Giddy. Then, i was pissed that AK didnt get more so I took my frustrations out on Giddy. Then, i realized that we'll prob never win a championship with a player like giddy so i was "meh" about the move.
Giddy, Ayo, White, Williams, Buzelis, Phillips & Smith are talented players who could win 40-50 games one day. The bulls really really need better bigs who can 3 & D and maybe more. but its a nice start to a rebuild. and i'll be happy to get league pass and watch the games again this year with this young group.

i kinda like the modern NBA. it will be a "team" game again and not be dominated by 1 freak of nature super star (magic, mike, shaq, kobe, lebron). over the course of 40 years, those 5 player had 21 championships. add in duncan and you get 26 out of 40.
they also went to 44 NBA finals between 1980-2020. Almost every NBA finals over the span of 40 years featured 1 of those 6 players. if you didnt have 1 of those players you had zero chance of winning a championship.

Its why i am not scared of wemby winning every ring. there is only so much 1 player can do in the modern NBA. in fact, the more ball dominant a player is the less 3 point shots your team can put up and the goal of the modern NBA is to put as many 3 point shots as possible.
Height, Size and leaping ability (jordan, shaq, magic, bron, wemby) will be replaced by skills and smarts - figuring out how to maximize 3's and working on your range.

Playing international is not the same as playing at the NBA level with teams who know your weaknesses and have players covering you. On an Australian team he is their Lebron. But on an NBA team he's just like any other PG. To remind you, Dennis Shroeder won the Fiba games over the USA scoring 30 points with 8 assist. Stats in the international game is not the same at the NBA level because teams have other players you have to compete with on your team. In addition, NBA teams have defensive players who will force you to do what you don't like and they will force Josh to shoot because they know his game now. They also know his game defensively as he is slow with his feet. Can he become an elite defensive player? Can he become an good 3 point shooter? Time will tell because on the East teams will definitely force him to be. Remember on the East alone these are the guards Josh has to compete. How he defends these guys will dictate his play. It will mean nothing to average a triple double if you can't defend and are minus on the floor.

I received a reply below that Giddey couldn't succeed on OKC because he was playing "second fiddle" to a "ball hog" in SGA. SGA is a ball hog? But OKC is in 1st place in the West playing with that "ball hog." 🤣 Again this is my problem with Giddey. Giddey requested the trade from OKC or on a winning team.
Lonzo has had to learn how to play next to another star all his career and he never thought of it as playing "second fiddle" when he had to play next to Lebron/Rondo, next to Jrue/Ingram/Zion, or next to Zach/Derozan. He learned how to fit to win even if it meant playing off ball and adjusting his game to 3/D. Do whatever to win.
You have to learn how to play along side other talented players. I think Giddy is the ball hog because he is expecting to do exactly that same thing for the Bulls as he wants the "ball in his hands." That to me is selfish ball. You can't be the only player on the team that thinks you can make other players "better." You don't think Coby wants the same or Lonzo?? Winning is the goal. And if OKC wins a title this year, it will even appear more selfish that he couldn't adjust to being on a winning team.🤣 Who cares who has the ball when you are getting a Championship Ring.

Giddey should be a PG/SF @ 6'8" that can play 3 positions - Coby or Ayo are the PGs along with Zo or Giddey.
Giddey is at his best vaule with the ball in his hands creating plays for others. He will need to be PG and if the others can catch and shoot then he will give them open looks.
